2. Executive Summary
• This program is developed to educate men in the 40 and up age range. Men today
don’t quite understand the importance of eating right to provide the proper
nutrients to their bodies.
• This program will give men a chance to participate in physical activities provided
by professional and inspirational athletes, be educated on how exactly to eat right,
see all of the negative side effects of not eating right, and receive possible ways to
better their health.
• Men’s health is very important and I want to make it better for all because I would
not want this to be a situation that affects people and causes them to lose close
family members due to improper eating.
• After participating in this program we are wanting to see men become educated
on proper nutrition and see that it is important for them to make sure they are
physically active.
3. Purpose
• The sole purpose of this program is to get the importance of nutrition and physical
fitness out there to elderly males. Many men are not aware of facts pertaining to
nutrition due to focusing on other things (careers, entertainment, and improper
eating.)
• The body relies on the nutrients it gets from food to keep it running smoothly and
in good health. In today's society, the abundance of over processed, high-calorie,
low-nutrient foods is responsible for a range of illnesses and diseases.
• Most men look to their spouse to assist them in eating habits and all nutritional
facts that they should be focusing on as far as their health.
• Participants will be able to receive health manuals to guide them to eat right, ways
to avoid all of the diseases caused by bad nutrition, examples of products that
could assist others like vitamins, protein shakes, and healthy snacks.
4. Risk factors
• Illnesses obtained due to improper nutrition consist of:
– Coronary Heart Disease- a narrowing of the blood vessels that carry oxygen
and blood to the heart.
– High Blood Pressure- a measure of the force of blood produced by the heart
as well as the condition of the arteries.
– Type 2 Diabetes- a disorder in which the blood has too much glucose in it that
the body cannot process.
– Cancer- Because poor nutrition causes the immune system to be weakened, a
poor diet can often prohibit the body from fighting off certain types of cancers
– Obesity- a common problem in today's society, in which inactivity and poor
diet is uncontrolled.
5. Planning Committee
• 2 Physical Therapists
• 4 Athletic Trainers
• 4 Health Educators
• 4 Professional Athletes – Derrick Rose (NBA),
Earl Barron (NBA), Michael Vick (NFL), Tim
Tebow (NFL)
6. Needs Assessment
• The foods you eat provide the proper energy your body needs in order to function. It’s very
similar to batteries needing to be charged or cars needing to be gassed; your body needs to
be fed energy-providing foods every day.
• The body is full of so many needed and very important components that assist in producing a
healthy individual. Therefore it is only right to be in-taking the proper products.
• Males in the age range of 40-65 years of age are the most important to be receiving this
education. Research shows that this is a need in all populations of the United States because
it is something that all people fight at one point and time in their lives.
• When men who work as contractors, painters, lawn workers, or any other career that
physical work is being done, hunger develops. As hunger comes, the intent to just eat food
comes to mind but proper nutrition is not always what is chosen to be taken in.
• Dealing with any of the risk factors (diseases) of bad nutrition would overall cause economic
differences.
