The Business Value of Metadata for Data GovernanceRoland Bullivant
In today’s digital economy, data drives the core processes that deliver profitability and growth - from marketing, to finance, to sales, supply chain, and more. It is also likely that for many large organizations much of their key data is retained in application packages from SAP, Oracle, Microsoft, Salesforce and others. In order to ensure that their foundational data infrastructure runs smoothly, most organizations have adopted a data governance initiative. These typically focus on the people and processes around managing data and information. Without an actionable link to the physical systems that run key business processes, however, governance programs can often lack the ‘teeth’ to effectively implement business change.
Metadata management is a process that can link business processes and drivers with the technical applications that support them. This makes data governance actionable and relevant in today’s fast-paced and results-driven business environment. One of the challenges facing data governance teams however, is the variety in format, accessibility and complexity of metadata across the organization’s systems.

Straight Talk to Demystify Data LineageDATAVERSITY
Are you sure you trust the data you just used for that $10 million decision? To trust data authenticity we must first understand its lineage. However, the term "Data Lineage" itself is ambiguous since it is used in different contexts. "Business Lineage" links metadata constructs to specific terms in a business glossary. This approach is used by numerous Data Governance solutions. This approach alone comes up short, since it doesn't trace the real flow of information through an organization. "Technical Lineage" traces data's journey through different systems and data stores, providing an audit trail of the changes along the way. True "Data Lineage" combines both aspects, providing context to fully understand the data life cycle. Every step in data's journey is a potential source for introduction of error that could compromise Data Quality, and hence, business decisions. In this session, Ron Huizenga offers a comprehensive discussion of data lineage and associated Data Quality remediation approaches that are essential to build a foundation for Data Governance.

Business Value Through Reference and Master Data StrategiesDATAVERSITY
Data tends to pile up and can be rendered unusable or obsolete without careful maintenance processes. Reference and Master Data Management (MDM) has been a popular Data Management approach to effectively gain mastery over not just the data but the supporting architecture for processing it. This webinar presents MDM as a strategic approach to improving and formalizing practices around those data items that provide context for many organizational transactions — the master data. Too often, MDM has been implemented technology-first and achieved the same very poor track record (one-third succeeding on time, within budget, and achieving planned functionality). MDM success depends on a coordinated approach, typically involving Data Governance and Data Quality activities.
Learning Objectives:
• Understand foundational reference and MDM concepts based on the Data Management Body of Knowledge (DMBoK)
• Understand why these are an important component of your Data Architecture
• Gain awareness of reference and MDM frameworks and building blocks
• Know what MDM guiding principles consist of and best practices
• Know how to utilize reference and MDM in support of business strategy

Lessons in Data Modeling: Why a Data Model is an Important Part of Your Data ...DATAVERSITY
Data can provide tremendous value to an organization in today’s information-driven economy. New customer insights, better efficiency, and new product innovation are just some of the ways organizations are obtaining value through data. But in order to achieve this value, a strong data architecture is required to ensure that the data infrastructure runs smoothly, while at the same time aligning with business needs and corporate culture. A Data Strategy can assist in building a data architecture foundation through:
Identifying business requirements, rules & definitions via a business-centric data model
Creating a data inventory & integrating disparate data sources
Building a technical data architecture through data models & related artifacts
Coordinating the people, processes and culture necessary for success
Identifying tools & technology needed for creating & maintaining high quality data
Is your technical content development organization considering a move to structured authoring and/or DITA (Darwin Information Typing Architecture)? This presentation provides a high-level introduction to what DITA is--and what the benefits of moving to DITA are. DITA is an excellent solution for many--but not all--organizations and projects. This introduction can help you begin to understand why DITA may or may not be a good solution for you.

You Spoke, We Listened – Achieving a New Level of Search Optimization with Go...Concept Searching, Inc
Join us to learn how the combination of Google Search Appliance and conceptClassifier improves search outcomes. Concept Searching’s industry recognized technology, still unique in the market, provides the Google Search Appliance index with automatically generated semantic metadata, based on our core compound term processing, that generates multi-term metadata that represents concepts.
If you are using Google Search Appliance or evaluating search options, this webinar will provide highly useful information to understand how conceptClassifier improves search results in any search environment.
How does conceptClassifier improve Google Search Appliance results?
• Eliminates end user tagging.
• Automatically generates keywords and phrases that represent a concept.
• Accepts queries in natural language, with the user typing words, phrases or whole sentences, and inter-relationships among content,
• Retrieves highly relevant content even if the results do not contain the search string,
• Improves dynamic navigation through the use of semantic metadata.
• Improves result biasing as the results will automatically include related keywords and concepts.
• Eliminates the development of collections as the taxonomy hierarchy can be used to guide users to specific content based on their role and function – this also applies to segmentation.
• Can load synonym lists, but are not needed as the taxonomy manager component will recognize synonyms as well as related concepts during auto-classification. The results can be easily and quickly modified by an administrator.
• Blacklist and stop words can also be managed in the taxonomy component, without creating and uploading files and eliminating human subjectivity.
• Taxonomies are easily tuned and managed by Subject Matter Experts, providing unique features not available in any other taxonomy product.

If end users in your organization are like most, they don’t use the delete key often enough. The result is an overwhelming amount of saved content.
Records are often not declared, sensitive or privacy information lacks control, and redundant, obsolete, and trivial (ROT) files slow down search. All this causes noncompliance, and makes migration more complicated than it should be.
In this session we discuss content optimization, what it does, and why it should be done on a quarterly basis. We share details on how to reduce the number of servers needed, and experience a speedy, problem-free migration through content optimization.

Enterprise search, once a hot topic, now faces new challenges with the adoption of hybrid and cloud environments. In SharePoint and Office 365, search isn’t equal, and before jumping on the Office 365 band wagon, organizations need to know as much as they can about potential challenges and pitfalls. Even in a SharePoint stand-alone environment, the consumption of content is forcing a renewed look at security, information lifecycle management, and non-compliance. Join us on Tuesday, October 28th, at 11:30am – 12:30pm EDT for this webinar packed with information on how to address search issues in SharePoint stand-alone, Office 365 hybrid, or cloud-only environments.
If you’re not sure how you would answer any of the below questions below, then this webinar is for you:.
• Does an enterprise search engine that provides the same transparency both on-premise and in the cloud matter to you? Does it matter to your users?
• With the huge push for Office 365, is enterprise search getting lost?
• Will the announcement of Delve push you over the edge in adopting Office 365? Why?
• What about managing content in the cloud? Do you have any reservations about security,or records, and what your users are doing in the cloud? (Bet you’ll be surprised.)
• What about migration? What goes where?
• How will you know what’s on your users’ OneDrives? Is DLP enough?
• Is your SharePoint search good enough? Have you calculated the ROI you can gain by improving it?
• How are you going to manage the ever increasing consumption of organizational content?
Security tools don’t help when they work after the fact. Proactive identification of standard descriptors and confidential information must occur as content is created or ingested. Tough job? No, not really, as this webinar explains.
It takes only one vulnerability to cause a breach. 68% of all data breaches are caused internally. And 49% of SharePoint organizations have experienced at least one breach. There can be significant repercussions from data that has been exposed, ranging from hefty fines to irreparable brand damage.
Identifying and protecting data before breaches occur is the only way you can be certain that your content is protected. Most organizations are unprepared for this type of attack. Make sure yours is not one of them by understanding the issues and how to address them
• The big picture of security challenges – what’s hot with cyber criminals, and what’s not
• Data breach targets, such as email, mobile, shadow IT, collaboration, and provisioning
• Security risks and how to resolve them

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
