4. “. . . those who have
believed in God may be
careful to devote
themselves to good
works. These things
are excellent and
profitable for people.”
– Titus 3:8 (ESV)
5. WHY GIVE BACK
• Our reasons for giving back are rooted in the
Scriptures
• Titus 3:1, 8, 14; James 1:22, 27; Ephesians 2:10
• Good works is how the Bible describes giving back
• Good works= benevolence which is defined as
goodwill; charitable deeds; desire to do good to others
(dictionrary.com)
6. WHY GIVE BACK
It is NOT about us.
It is about God working in us and through us for the
benefit of others.
By performing such good works, others might come to
see God at work in and through us and recognize His
lovingkindness.
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see
your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” -
Matthew 5:16

8. “You must have the
same attitude that
Christ Jesus had.”
– Philippians 2:5 (NLT)
9. HOW TO GIVE BACK
• We give back by seeking to be more Christ-like
• 1Cor. 11:1; Phil. 2:5; 2 Cor. 5:20
• We do good by doing things in a Christ-like manner
• Among the right way to do things like Christ we are
to have attitude-action alignment
• Our actions and our attitude need to match
10. HOW TO GIVE BACK
ATTITUDE-ACTION ALIGNMENT: When we give
back, we need to match the right attitude with the
right approach and the right actions in order to
generate the right atmosphere.
The wrong attitude can have a negative effect on a
good intended effort.
When the attitude is not aligned with the actions and
the approach, that sends a mixed message and stirs
up all sorts of confusion.
11. HOW TO GIVE BACK
Do the right things for the right reasons in the right
manner
If it calls for mercy, then show mercy. If it calls for
compassion, then show compassion. Whatever it takes
is whatever it takes to do good works towards others.
“Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you
were working for the Lord rather than for people.” –
Colossians 3:23 (NLT)
12. Consider this from the Scriptures
• “. . . You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus:
‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ” – Acts 20:35
(NLT)
• “So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not
grudgingly or of [f]necessity; for God loves a cheerful
giver.” – 2 Corinthians 9:7 (NKJV)
• “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but
to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” – Mark
10:45 (NKJV)
