 Mem Fox is considered Australia's most popular children's
author
 Writes children’s picture books ranging from realistic fiction,
fiction, fantasy and poetry
 She was born and lives in Australia with her husband and
daughter
 She taught teachers for 24 years
 Received many civic awards, and honors in Australia
 She has visited the United States 97 times as a literacy expert
although she is also a well-known author in America.

4. Why is Mem an Author?
 She studied children’s literature in college and
had to write a children’s story as an assignment.
Her story, Hush the Invisible Mouse, later turned
into Possum Magic. After that she felt like a
writer: ideas for books kept popping up, so she
carried on writing.
 “Writing is my second love. My first is teaching,
to which I admit an addiction so powerful that I’m
surprised I had the courage to retire early.”
