 He was an important film director of the German silent cinema.
 Former stage actor, writer and director, graduate of Vienna University, who
first worked in films from 1913.
 Had a reputation as a director of melodramas
 Wiene escaped Nazi persecution by seeking exile in France, where he
died in 1938.

archetype of modern Hollywood blockbuster filmmaking.
 In later life, his films began addressing such issues as the Holocaust,
slavery, war and terrorism.
 He is considered one of the most influential filmmakers in the history of
cinema. He is also one of the founders of DreamWorks movie studio.
