George Pal was a Hungarian-American animator and film producer known for his innovations in stop-motion animation. He graduated from the Budapest Academy of Arts with a degree in architecture in 1928. Unable to find work as an architect, he took a job at a film studio where he developed his skills in animation and puppetry. Pal fled Nazi Germany in 1939 and settled in Hollywood. His most famous work was the 1953 sci-fi film The War of the Worlds, though he also produced beloved films like Tom Thumb and The Time Machine using innovative stop-motion techniques.
