ABOUT ME
After graduating in 2013 with my Bachelor’s in
Architecture from University of Idaho, I began my Master’s at Portland State
University. I quickly realized that it wasn’t the right fit and decided to take
some time off once the semester ended to gain some work experience,
ensuring architecture was the right career for me.
I moved to Boise in 2014 and gained a job with a General
Contractor, allowing me the chance to learn from the“building”side of the
profession. After a year and a half I earned a position at a local architecture
firm here in Boise as an Architect-in-Training, and couldn’t be happier.
The work experience I have earned thus far is what has
inspired me to return back to school so I can eventually become a licensed
Architect. Though the process of becoming licensed is a marathon of
schooling and tests, the outcome is an achievement that many are unable
to accomplish. Yet it is a goal that I am determined to obtain. I believe the
process of licensure is more of a test on your drive and commitment to the
profession, rather than just the opportunity to stamp your work. Why set
goals to be like everyone else, when you can prosper even further!
Over the remainder of my time in school I plan to focus my thesis
research on how design directly affects human psychology, focusing
primarily on entertainment design and how this influences the user’s
experience. With an ultimate goal of determining what aspects of an
attraction are the most significant to bringing happiness to the user.

3. Architectural Facade Design Guidelines
Working with the City of Caldwell, private business owners and GGLO, an architecture/landscape firm out of Seattle, we were tasked with
creating a design guideline handbook to provide a more uniform design standard throughout the city center. The document was broken down
into nine categories shown below with a“kit of parts”image created using the main facade of the Steunenberg block in Caldwell. Working as a
group of three each of us took on three of the categories and provided pictures, layout diagrams and material selections as examples of what
CALDWELL DESIGN GUIDELINES could be implemented. The second part of the project was working with GGLO who has designed a plaza just behind the Steunenberg block
buildings. The facades are unmaintained, cluttered with utility lines and some are completely falling apart. With the use of our design guideline
handbook, we provided the city three levels of improvement outlining the various types of improvements they could provide for each building.
The image above is the level three improvement, the highest and most costly level of changes, showing them the utmost potential of the site.
Focusing on creating a natural flow between the plaza and each business, drawing customers in and eventually paying back the money initially
invested in these improvements.

4. This is a current project I am still working on for a local church designed by a senior architect in my firm. I have been given the task of
producing renders to be used for financial promotion. Floor plans have been created by the project architect, which I have used to produce a
Revit model to create realistic renderings and a walk through video of the building.

These are a few of the many hand sketches that I have done of the years. My process for sketching typically consists of finding a photo
or scene that I can draw reference too, using my own interpretation of the image. I begin my sketches using pencil to create an outline of the
image and then trace over the outline using difference marker types to create various pen weights. I have begun adding color into my sketches
to try and broaden my design abilities to new mediums.

6. DOWNTOWN REIMAGINATION
Working as a group, we were challenged with the task of reimagining the downtown core of the small rural town of Buhl, Idaho, with the
ultimate goal of creating a livable, resilient and vibrant downtown for the community. Facade upgrades, pocket parks, and construction of a new
recreational center and transit center were suggested to help increrase job opportunities, and attract a younger core demographic to the area.

7. Preceding a group design project of a 77 acre site located in Sandpoint, Idaho we broke off to individually design specific areas
identified within the site. Taking a modern twist on classical Victorian building features, this design provides a vacation spot different than any
other in the area, while still showing a connection to the surrounding environment. The bed and breakfast is made up of four guest rooms
complete with their own attached bathroom for additional privacy. The wrap around porch takes reference from the surrounding
neighborhood. There is a private parking lot next to the inn, able to accommodate one spot per guest. A boardwalk wraps around the building
and extends through the site, helping to create a connection to the recreation previously defined on site.

Basic program requirements called for a minimum of one active and one quiet pool area, as well as a locker rooms, administrative areas
and commercial spaces. Frank Lloyd Wright’s, Falling Water was used as a precedent study, directly influencing the interaction of the active pools
and the play on verticality of the exterior facade. Vertical detailing seen within the window mullions and the cantilevering structure over the
main entry helps balance the linear floor plan of the space dictated by the confined site and drastic grading change.
