A wireless power transfer system was designed and prototyped for potential biomedical applications such as powering ventricular assist devices. The prototype utilized Elix's proprietary magneto-dynamic coupling technology to transfer up to 10 watts of power with an efficiency of around 60% over an air gap of 25mm. Future work to improve the design was identified, including balancing the rotors to reduce vibration and noise, and implementing new bearing designs to lower friction losses and improve efficiency.
