Hypothesis
According to the theory, it is hypothesized that the higher the concentration base was added, the
quicker the PH would get up to PH 9. The hypothesis is justified by chemical reaction occurring in
beverages (coke and juice) at different temperatures which is 10В°C, 20В°C, 30В°C and 40В°C
and how it affect their total acid concentration, because of the Aldehydes and sugars may be
oxidized to carboxylic acid.
Aim
The aim of this investigation is to measure the the storage of beverages at different temperatures
(10 В°C, 20 В°C, 30В°C and 40 В°C) affect their total acid concentration.
Materials
The following materials were used in the experiment:
8x 500mL beakers
8 x sheet beaker lids + 8 x rubber band

Annotated Bibliography Of The Lottery By Shirley Jackson
An Annotated Bibliography on The Lottery by Shirley Jackson
Nebeker, Helen E. The Lottery : Symbolic Touch De Force Short Story Criticism, edited by
Jenny Cromie, vol. 39, Gale Group, 2000, 75 vols, pp. 187 90. Originally published in American
Literature, vol. 46, no. 1, March, 1974, pp. 100 07. According to Helen E. Nebeker, most
acknowledge the energy of The Lottery, admitting that the psychological stun of the ritual murder
in a modern, rural small town cannot be easily overlooked. Virgil Scott, for instance, says, the
story leaves me uneasy because of the author s use of incidental symbolism: the black box, the
forgotten tuneless chant, the ritual salute to assure the entire recreation of the procedure of the
lottery forget to serve the story as they may have. At that point, they indicate fundamental
weakness by acknowledging that Jackson has preferred to give no answer to her story, but it
leaves the meaning to our imagination, allowing a good deal of flexibility in our interpretation,
while yet demanding that everything in the story has been obtained to assure us how we are to
take the ending events in the story. Maybe the critical conflict depicted above comes from failure
to see that The Lottery really intertwines two stories and subjects into a fictional vehicle. The
obvious, easily discovered story shows up in the facts, wherein members of a small town meet to
decide who will be the next victim of the annual savagery. The symbolic hints which develop into a
second, sub rosa story becomes apparent as early as the fourth word of the story when the date of
June 27th alerts us to the season of the summertime with all its connotation of ancient ritual. From
the symbolic development of the black box, the story shifts quickly to climax.

Subsistence Patterns Of Anthropology
Horticulture is defined as the production of plants using a simple nonmechanized technology
(Nanda and Warms 2006:148), while Webster s Dictionary defines horticulture as the art or science
of growing fruits, vegetables, plants, flowers, or trees. When most people think of horticulture, they
simply think of gardening or farming. Most people do not associate horticulture with culture itself
or how horticulture relates to anthropology, or the study human culture. In all actuality, horticulture
is a major part of cultural anthropology. The groups that hunt and grow food, and the associated
eating rituals or ceremonies associated with food differs by culture or environment. This paper will

(Carvalho et al. 1989:239) The Yanomamo Indians of the Amazon rain forest are organized by
patrilineal kinship relationships, patrilineal descent from ancestors, and marriage exchanges
between kinship/descent groups. In the Yanomamo tribes, the men are the leaders. The male
leaders positions are mostly because of marriage patterns and kinship. Yanomamo people often
participate in arranged marriages and the tribesmen often take multiple wives. In addition to
polygamy, cross cousin marriages are also a part of the Yanomamo culture. Woman are more or
less possessions in the Yanomami culture and the males position of power or importance is often
rated or scaled based on the number of wives he has. The woman spend most of their time fetching
water, caring for their children, and visiting with one another. The woman of the tribe often spend
a good deal of time weaving baskets and other small crafts and also engage to some degree in
fishing. The other main responsibilities include cooking, gathering firewood and berries and fruits.
The men of the tribe are responsible for the distribution of food for the Yanomamo people. Males do
the majority of the fishing and hunting and while they do not eat the animals they hunt, rather they
share their meat with others within the tribe. The favor is returned by other male hunters within the
tribe. Male Yanomamis also spend time

God Of Carnage Analysis
God of Carnage by Yasmina Reza is centered upon two upper class couples who come together to
discuss a fight between their boys. Through this meeting, they become their children fighting,
causing absolute chaos and carnage of the situation. All of them lose their objective in the end of
wanting to solve the problem of their boys and to be the most civilized, powerful couple in the
situation. Specifically Annette, played by junior Sarah Cushman, ultimately loses her battle of
maintaining a civilized demeanor due to the killing of Veronica and Michael s hamster, her
husband s work related calls, and drunkenly listening to Veronica about being a phony when
emotions were already at their peak. One of the first conversations is about Michael getting... Show

At this time, Veronica insulted Henry, Annette and Alan s son, and, in turn, Annette stood up for
her son. She was then called a phony by the other couple, prompting her to leave. As Alan was
not paying attention, per usual, she grabbed the tulips and beat him with them, bawling about
how it is the worst day of her life, too. At this point, she has lost all civility and power. She
embarrassed herself and nothing was solved with the meeting. Cushman stuck with her given
circumstances so well by the point. She was defensive of her child, her husband lacked the
attention and care to deal with the situation, she was drunk which caused her emotions to escalate,
and she knew she had not been civil. Cushman allowed the audience to see the defeat of Annette.
There were many more moments when Annette failed to reach her super objective, but the fate of
the hamster, the destruction of Alan s cell phone, and her reaction to being called a phony all were
major points in losing civility and represented her downfall into causing carnage. Her downfall was
clearly articulated by Sarah Cushman and overall every point of outrageous activity was justified
by playing into the given

My Dreams In My Life
One summer afternoon after indulging on General Tso s Tofu and spring rolls I cracked open the
crisp fortune cookie and received a vague prophecy reading old dreams never die; they just get
filed away . My friend next to me interpreted my fortune to say that I will give up on my dreams.
My other friend then believed it said that growing up meant acquiring new aspirations. Everyone
around the table seemed to have their own perceptionof what it meant, although they all perceived it
to be a rather pessimistic and unfortunate fortune. I disagreed. I understood the aphorism to mean
that although we mature, we hold on to our ambitions as they set the foundations for who we
are. While reflecting on my old dreams a specific assignment from preschool came to mind. We
were asked what we wanted to be when we grew up. Common answers from the class included
princess, fireman, teacher and all the typical ambitions of young children. I remember my
answer simply was a helper. When asked to elaborate I simply said my goal was to help people. I
don t believe my old dreams were given up on, I believe they were filed away in the sense I have
continued to hold on to them even as I have grown up. I see myself working towards that goal
when I volunteered at a doctor s office where I had the privilege of personally aiding the patients.
Shadowing a family practitioner I saw that people of all different walks of life all did get sick and
need help. I found directly communicating with the

Analysis Of Toyota s Cleaner And Greener Initiative
Social responsibility as defined in the textbook means that organizations are part of a larger society
and are accountable to that society for their actions. Toyota s cleaner and greener initiative strives to
create an economically vibrant, efficient fuel technologies, and strategic partnerships to accomplish
a mobile society in harmony with the einvornment. (Kerin, 2015).
Profit Responsibility A company is profit responsible when they take the proper steps to ensure
profits are maximized for owners and stockholders and by doing so in an ethical manner. Toyota
has increased profits and has become the top selling brand in the country with over 27 million
purchased vehicles in more than 140 countries. Today, Toyota is world s largest... Show more

The National Park Project was created to bring awareness to creating and restoring a cleaner
environment. This initiative donated hybrid cars to national parks to promote a greener and cleaner
environment. It also focused on educating and informing park attendees the importance of
sustainable mobility. This initiative reached many more consumers than a typical marketing
campaign.
The National Park Project has strengthened Toyota s image and an environmental leader, gain
respect amongst its competitors, became an environmental steward, and increased awareness on
advanced vehicle awareness. The program has proved successful with recent surveys ranking
Toyota the highest in Leader in High MPG, Leader in Technology Development, Environmentally
Friendly Vehicles, and Wins Environmental Awards.
Critical Thinking and Application
Being corporate responsible to the earth or your immediate surroundings says plenty about the
type of company you are and the type of leaders that run it. It shows a level of respect which is one
of two values of the Toyota Way .
Companies that provide some form of initiative to support a meaningful cause or organization will
have a lasting and domino effect. For example, I work in behavioral health and the month of May

Originally written in Greek about 45 AD, this volume contains 27 books and 260 chapters. Its
scriptures tell the story of the life of Jesus, believed by Christians to be the Messiah, Son of God in
human form, and sent by God to fulfill the promises and prophesies of the Old Testament.
In comparison, the Holy Quran, written after the Old Testament, remains in its original form.
Written in Arabic, Quran means recitation and contains Islamic teachings believed to bring
guidance, direction, and IS the word of God, whom they call Allah. It is against Islamic law to
change the text in any way because Muslims believe Mohammad, founder of Islam, wrote the
verses as revealed to him by the angel Gabriel. Muslims view Mohammad not as the creator of the
religion, but as the restorer of the original the Hebrew Bible. Islam teaches Mohammad was not
only a religious prophet but also a political and military leader. He was human, but not without sin,
so he is not God. Although there have been several language translations, a good follower must
read and memorize its teaching in its native Arabic language. For a follower to live by Islam he
must completely submit (to God). In looking at its history, we can understand a little about its
followers.

Informative Essay On Fireworks
Morrison, Haley
Chemistry, Period 5
Due Date: November 17, 2017
Every 4th of July, many people go out at night and spend hours watching firework shows. Most of
us are content to simply enjoy the pretty colors and sparks, without questioning the chemistry
behind the spectacle, but have you ever really thought about how fireworks produce such vibrant
colors? The colors emitted when a firework explodes come from an aerial shell inside the
firework that contains explosive chemicals and metallic salts. These colors appear to us because of
luminescence. Luminescence occurs as a result of the valence electrons in the metal salt atoms
moving and changing positions. The explosion of fireworks is not a miracle; it s simply chemistry at
work.
When we see fireworks explode, what we re actually seeing is the explosion of components
inside the aerial shell. The aerial shell is made up of gunpowder and stars, small lumps that are
comprised of fuel, an oxidizing agent, a metal containing colorant, and a binder. These stars are
what give the fireworks their colors. (De Antonis, pg 8). The metal containing colorant produces
the color when it s exposed to a flame (in this case, the ignition of the gunpowder) then the fuel and
oxidizing agent combine to create a chemical reaction that yields powerful heat and gas (De
Antonis, pg 8).The binder holds all these ingredients together when the firework explodes. When
the fuse at the bottom of a firework is lit, the energy propels it upwards until

Comparison Of Human Nature In The Epic Of Gilgamesh
Throughout the famous Epic of Gilgamesh, the king of an Ancient Sumerian city called Uruk
portrays the burden of the flawed human nature that we all carry. Although Gilgamesh was two
third divine and one third human, his actions were very much alike of a human s. He shared
minimal characteristics with his mother the Ninsun, the cow goddess, such as bold physical
structures and the strength of a wild bull with his mother, Ninsun, but the rest of him including his
personality, ways of thinking, and mentality was a human s nonetheless.
Initially, Gilgamesh was known as the tortuous, superb, accomplished, and fierce king of Uruk
who drove people out of their sanity and sought trouble. He was an arrogant, overconfident being
who loved to prove to himself that he s undefeatable even though he knew it from the core of his
heart. In fact, the whole kingdom of Uruk knew it. He frequently held competitions to determine
the mightiest of all in the kingdom which required the presence of every single victim.
Unfortunately, no man was spared to be the opponent of the man who had the vitality of a wild
bull. It was said that He was harrying the young men of Uruk beyond reason, Gilgamesh leaves no
son to his father! (101, line 59 60).The intense thirst for competing that Gilgamesh had, conveys
how it s the human nature to have a big an ego, and prove to themselves that they are the finest of
all. Humans have the instinct to be competitive and thrive for victory. There s always a part

Post Traumatic Brain Injury Analysis
Collisions occur in sport activities, automobile accidents, and military combat commonly cause
repetitive mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) (1). Repetitive mTBI is often associated with
neurodegenerative disorders affecting cognition as well as behaviors exhibited in patients (5).
Diffuse axonal injury is typically observed using diffusion tensor imaging (1). Impairment of brain
communication resulting from axonal structures damage associated with mTBI may alter the
neurological network, which in turn affecting individual s behaviors (2). Anxiety disorders are
heritable and genetic factors also attribute in part to determine individual s behavior in response to
stressful situations (3). While environmental stressors can intensify these psychological responses,

disorder have generally linked to the abnormalities in the amygdala and prefrontal cortex (1). As a
result, multiple animal models have been used to test different behavioral outcomes to evaluate the
pathological effects cause by the injury model (4). While other experiments test anxiety behavior
by exposing rodents to varying conditioned stimuli like electric shock or loud noises, the elevated
plus maze (EPM) rely upon unconditioned fear of height and open spaces (P). Thus, the elevated
plus maze is normally used to assess rodents innate anxiety (4). EPM also facilitates in assessing
anxiogenic drugs as well as anxiolytic drugs of multiple pharmacological agents. However,
methodological differences in age, strain, or sex of the subjects includes housing or testing
conditions often attribute to the inconsistent outcomes (4). In this experiment, EPM is the primary
animal model use to determine anxiety levels in induced repetitive mTBI female mice as compared

Pursuing An Education For Public Policy
During an economics lecture the professor said to my class I do not know whether the increasing
income inequality is an issue or not . I was perplexed. I thought the goal of Economics, as a social
science, was to achieve the maximum welfare of people while efficiently using resources. So how
is income inequality that renders many people worse off, not an issue? By not stating his opinion,
he wished to remain unbiased. However, if everyone were to keep their understanding of justice and
inequality to themselves without meaningful dialogues, no societal issue would gain attention or
action.
I felt my theoretical background required training in practical applications to conceive working
solutions to some of the most pressing problems of our time. Realizing I want to be equipped with
the tools necessary to take appropriate measures when the welfare of individuals is compromised, I
knew I should seek an education in Public Policy. With my interdisciplinary academic background,
I aspire to contribute to the field of Public Policy by bringing a transnational feminist perspective
to the socio economic policy discourse. Therefore, there is no better place for me to pursue my
doctoral degree in Public Policy than at Chicago Harris School of Public Policy.
My experiences in research and community service have molded my policy interests and prepared
me for my graduate education in policy formulation and analysis. My joint research paper on the

The Importance Of Technology On The World
Life We Once Knew
Technology has improved drastically over the years. People can t imagine living a day to day life
without technology. No one can walk down a sidewalk without having to see someone on their
phone, tablet or video game. When my parents were growing up, all the knew was how to play
outside they was no technology around. Biological evolution has changed drastically just like
technology have evolved. In The Limits of Friendship, by Maria Konnikova reminds us how the
social media has affected our day to day life. Social Media and Technology have made a
tremendously changes in our life that we may never be able to get back. Next generations may not
know how even to interact people outside the world of technology. In AttentionDeficit: The Brain
Syndrome of Our Era, by Richard Restak, have come up with the concept that multitasking can
affect our relationships. We have to come to term what is the most important thing that need to be
done first. People are altering the way they act with other people. While Technology has advanced
throughout the past generations, it has influenced social and biological evolution drastically that
cause major impact in everyone life.
Technology has changed our minds and transformed how we communicate with people because
technology has become a standard concept for us. Dunbar number has been affected by social
media because we can t be friends with more people on social than we know in life. It s just not

The higher the sodium thiosulphate concentration the faster the rate of the chemical reaction as more

5.Were there any problems or difficulties encountered in the experiment? Explain how the how they

The main difficulty was with determining when the visibility was the same for each chemical
reaction and concentration. In the end this was done by drawing a cross to put underneath each
of the concentrations, when the cross was no longer visible by the naked eye from the top of the
chronical flask the time was taken and recorded. Even as it was the same person judging how
long it took for the cross to disappear and if the cross was still visible was still controversial. This
was the main problem that could have been solved with more tests of each concentration and then
averaging it out.

Research Paper On Coeliac Disease
What is Coeliac disease? :
It is where the immune system reacts abnormally to gluten (a protein found in wheat, rye, barley
and oats), causing bowel damage. The villi which line the bowel become inflamed and flattened
(referred to as villous atrophy). Villous atrophy reduces the surface area of the bowel which is
available for nutrient absorption, this can lead to various gastrointestinal and malabsorptive
symptoms.
Who gets Coeliac disease? :
It affects both males and females of all ages. You must be born with the genetic predisposition to
develop Coeliac disease. A close relative (parent, sibling, or child) of someone with coeliac disease
has about a 10% chance of also having the disease. Also environmental factors can play a major
role in triggering Coeliac disease (e.g. stress).
How common? :
It affects 1 in 70 Australians, though 80% of those remain undiagnosed but with the better
diagnosis rates in the past few year, it means there is improved awareness of the condition.
Can Coeliac disease be cured? :
Those with this disease will remain sensitive to gluten throughout their entire life, so with that they
are never truly cured. A strict, lifelong gluten free dietallows them to manage the condition
effectively and allows the bowel lining to heal and symptoms to be resolved. However relapse can
occur if gluten is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

healthy lifestyle can also prevent diseases that cause death. Ways to prevent heart disease would
be to encourage your elders to get outside and walk for at least thirty minutes a day while
maintaining a healthy diet. Going on the walk with them would relieve stress and encourage
bonding time as well. Even though cancer is not really preventable living a healthy lifestyle
such as not going in tanning beds, wearing sunscreen, watching what is in products applied to
your skin, etc. can all help prevent some cancers. Preventing a stroke can start by lowering blood
pressure, losing weight, and exercising. Encouraging family members and friends to get regular
check ups with their doctors can be beneficial for everyone. Mental Health disorders can be
alleviated by talking to a professional and having good relationships with family and friends. If
people do not have good relationships with family and friends this can be a huge factor with
mental illness. Encouraging people to get outside and enjoy the little things can help someone cope
with a mental disorder or even just being a friend to talk to. Encouraging those with metal disorders

The Role Of Education In Waiting For Superman
One of Superman s famous quotes is, [The symbol] is not an S, on my world it means hope. Hope
represents the foundation on which children and adults cling to day by day. People all across
America wait for Superman to save them from the evils in their lives. For the children highlighted
in the documentary Waiting for Superman, hope is the only thing driving them to achieve a
commendable educationin today s failing school system. Davis Guggenheim, an American film and
tv director, produced this documentary in hopes of eliciting a worried response for the future of
education in the United States. He reflects the individual struggles of students as well as a general
view of the education system through animations and the overall structure of the documentary.
Guggenheim urges the audience to notice the system s detrimental aspects and take action in order
to save our prospective students.
Animation: a dynamic visual medium produced from static drawings, models, or objects posed in
a series of incremental movements that are then rapidly sequenced to give the illusion of lifelike
motion. Within the documentary, Guggenheim portrays clips of animation, specifically during
moments when a great amount of facts and statistics are presented. These clips are included within
the film to break up the scenes of real life footage. For example, Guggenheim uses hand drawn
images to make the claim that it is less expensive to send students to private schools than it is to
pay for inmates at

Analysis of Socrates Definition of Justice in The Republic
An Analysis of Socrates Definition of Justice
Introduction
This paper will consider Socrates definition of justice in the individual by showing what, according
to this definition, makes people and action just and whether Socrates definition of justice is
plausible. It appears that Socrates definition of justice is plausible but demanding. However, because
the transcendentals that Socrates seeks are like the light at the top of the mountain up which the
philosopher climbs after leaving the cave, it must be realized that the journey toward justice is one
of labor but not one that is implausible.
Context
Plato founded the Academy at Athens after Socrates death and preserved the lessons that Socrates
had taught, essentially laying a foundation for the study of philosophy in Western Civilization.
Plato s Republic seeks to unite the lessons of the Academy with the circle of politics that occupied
much of Plato s life: The Republic, in fact, teaches that unless philosophy and politics unite
completely, the evils of the state will never cease. This unity, indeed, is what is at the core of
Socrates (and therefore Plato s) definition of justice.
As B. M. Laing states, The Republic argues that justice is the principle which co ordinates different
arts (Laing, The Problem of Justice in Plato s Republic, p. 412). The definition of justice that
Socrates attempts to explore throughout The Republic is one that considers the individual in
relation to the city or the

Toddler Room Proposal
I have been given the responsibility of stocking the toy room of the ABC Child Care Center with
toys that are appropriate for infants and toddlers as well as preschoolers. The toys need to be safe
and washable. They also need to enhance the physical, cognitive, social and emotional growth of
children from infancy to early childhood. The following contains my proposals. The first part will
encompass recommendations for the infant and toddler room followed by recommendations for
preschoolers.
For the infants and toddler room we want to find toys that will assist in developing reflexes, and
repeating, imitating, and goal oriented schemes. Experimentation is important in this stage, so we
need to find toys that will offer up trial and error scenarios ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In my experience, their toys also bring out the emotional side. They have sounds, flashing lights,
and enticing colors. Some of their toys include the Teach Elephant, Busy Learners Activity Cube,
and Teach My Baby Learning Kit. My son loves his Sit To Stand Learning Walker which also helps
with pulling himself up to stand, push and walk. For some reason his Catch Me Kitten brings out
his anger When that toy is on he chases it down, yells at it and proceeds to knock it down.
For the preschool playroom we want to build upon and encourage more skill development and
socialization. This age group is moving away from believing they are the center of the world and
into realization of others. We want to inspire initiation collaboration with others. We want to
improve intellectual stimulation and expand upon make believe play. This can be accomplished
through sociodramatic play. We also want toys that will improve upon language skills.
Thought, judgement and involvement are key. Aside from toys listed above, other age related toys
for this group include blocks, puppets, and art materials to incite creativity and imagination.
Fantasy Forts and doll houses help with socialization as well as imagination. Puzzles and games to
promote problem solving and accomplishment. See Saws and Rocking Horses for

this; WEYA Community creates contemporary performance that blends complex subjects with high
artistry, collaborating with young people through social and community networks and WEYA

Running in ten western suburb schools, the program can change young people s experiences in the
classroom and wider community. Western Edge Youth Arts is young people s stories, told by
young people, for young people. This creates a positive change within themselves, and allows them
to expresss and share their opinions and stories with a creative outlet. An example of this was when
WEYA worked wuth The Flemington Theatre Group. Western Edge s work with communities in
Flemington began in 2004. New migrants and refugees were living in this suburb in Melbourne s
inner west, many in the Flemington Flats a housing commission project (Western Edge Youth Arts,

defined as a fundamental component of this organization in which individuals, occupying defined
statues, are regulated by social norms, public opinion, law and religion (Amato 2004, p.961).
Social institutions are meant to meet people s basic needs and enable the society to survive.

The definition historically is people related by blood, marriage, or adoption . The U.S. Census
defines family as a group of people united by the ties of marriage, blood, or adoption and
constituting a single household . William Goode, a sociologist who did research on family life,
marriage and divorce, defines family as at least 2 adult persons of opposite sex who reside
together, have division of labor, engage in economic and social exchange, share many things in
common, have parental relations with their children and the children have sibling relations .
Sociologist William F. Ogburn argues that the industrialization and urbanization of society has
stripped the family of many of the traditional functions. Due to this factor alone, the family s role
has been diminished to something strictly psychological, and that is to socialize children, and to
provide emotional support for family members. Talcott Parsons defined the family as serving a
basic function for society at large that included sexual behavior norms and values. There is a
growing opinion that social and civic agencies are taking over parental responsibilities due to two
income families, a burst in technology over the past forty years and single parent homes. The old

Goodwill is a type of intangible asset which is measured when an entire company is purchased
(TEXT pg658). Conceptually, goodwill represents the future economic benefits arising from the
other assets acquired in a business combination that are not individually identified and separately
recognized (TEXT pg659). Goodwill is not measured internally because the valuation is difficult
and near to impossible to pair with the costs of creating it (TEXT pg659).
Consideration Transferred Consideration transferred is the amount paid by the acquirer to the
previous owners to purchase the business. It is measured at acquisition date fair value and is the
sum of assets transferred by acquirer, liabilities incurred by acquirer, and equity interests issued
by the acquirer (FASB 805 30 30 7). If the sum includes carrying amounts that differ from the fair
value then these assets and liabilities should be re measured at fair value and gains or losses
should be recognized (FASB 805 30 30 8). Assets and liabilities that are held both before and after
the business combination should not recognize a gain or loss; they should be measured at their
carrying amounts directly before the acquisition date (FASB 805 30 30 8).
Contingent Consideration A contingent consideration is usually an obligation of the acquirer to
transfer additional assets or equity to previous owners if specific conditions are met (FASB 805 30

Summary Of Orientalism And The Clash Of Civilization
The way in which Said and Huntington define culture within their texts Orientalism and The
Clash of Civilisation, divulges each author s position within and perception of both the Arab and
Western Worlds. The difference in each author s ideology and contexts Said (a professor in
comparative lit with a Palestinian background, writing in 1978, a time of conflict and devastation
in the middle east) and Huntington, (an American political scientist writing at a time in which his
country is at a height of its power), causes what is described by Said as The clash of definitions
(SD). Said views cultureas a culmination and product of ideologies, morals and beliefs propagated
by members of society. Huntington views culture as more definite, established and finite. Said
defines a specific culture in relation to others whist Huntington believes each culture is its own
separate entity. Through the exploration of these contrasting views it can be interpreted that a key
difference between each definition is that Said defines culture as more broad and capable of being
influenced whilst Huntington views it only as a powerful influencer. This may also reflect their
positions as either from the West or the Orient.
Whilst Huntington defines culture as basic and less mutable , Said acknowledges culture as a
complex matter . He defines culture as a product of society and its values and refers to Gramsci s
theories of consent and cultural hegemony to support this definition. Gramsci s

The Indian Reservation System
An Indian Reservation is a legal territory managed by a certain Native American tribe given to
them, with only partial sovereignty, by the United States government. Only 326 of the country s
567 recognized tribes were granted land, but even the land they were granted is not sufficient
enough to support a sustainable lifestyle. With no rights to their land, no sense of home, and a
rapidly dying culture, native americans have been dealt with in the worst ways possible after their
own massacre and consistently broken treaties. An analysis of the Indian reservationsystem in the
US provides deeper insight to the idea that the treatment of natives has left profound, long lasting
negative impacts on the lives of native Americans. BODY PARAGRAPH NUMBER 1: (PUT IN
TOPIC SENTENCE) Some officials in the early years of the American republic, such as President
George Washington, believed that the best way to solve this Indian problem was simply to civilize
the Native Americans. The goal of this civilization campaign was to make Native Americans as
much like white Americans as possible by encouraging them convert to Christianity, learn to speak
and read English, and adopt European style economic practices such as the individual ownership of
land and other property (including, in some instances in the South, African slaves). Analysis: This

reservation system. Words used in this quote such

The History Of Delta Airlines
Andrew Trentmann Professor Weiland ASCI 602 19 November 2016 The History of Delta
Airlines Delta Airlines originally started in 1924 as, Huff Daland Dusters, the first crop dusting
company in existence (History, n.d.). To avoid the lulls of winter, when no crop dusting was
performed in the U.S., Huff Daland extended its dusting services to Peru (Hoogerwerf, 2010).
Peruvian Airways, a Pan Am subsidiary, began flying both passenger and air mail contracts for
Huff Daland in its first entry into the passenger market (History, n.d. and Hoogerwerf, 2010).
Due to the unstable political environment in South America, this portion of the company was
sold, and the U.S. portion of Huff Daland Dusters was bought from its parent company (Huff
Daland Manufacturing Company) by a group of investors with C.E. Woolman placed as the
vice president and manager of operations (History, n.d.). During this buyout from its parent
company Huff Daland Dusters became rebranded as Delta Air Service. (History, n.d.). With
Woolman running the company and going on to eventually become President and CEO, Delta
Air Service began its first passenger route in 1929 flying from Dallas to Jackson (History, n.d.). In
1930 the inability to secure airmail contracts by being excluded from the spoils conference
caused Delta to temporarily stop passenger service and fall back on agricultural spraying (History,

Pressure Ulcer Prevention Essay
Pressure Ulcer Prevention in the Acute Care Setting Pressure ulcers are localized wounds to the
skin that are also known as decubitus ulcers, or are known by the colloquial term bed sores.
They are common occurrences in healthcare that result from injuries to the skin and the tissues
beneath it when the patient remains in one position for long periods of time. Pressure ulcers are
typically located over an area with a bony prominence that then causes pressure on the skin.
Pressure ulcers are especially common in individuals in extended care facilities, but can occur
even in an acute setting. Pressure ulcers, in fact, can develop in just 24 hours, although they may
not be apparent to healthcare providers until up to 7 days later (Truong, Grigson, Patel, Liu,
2016). For immobile or relatively immobile patients, pressure ulcers are one of the most serious
problems that can occur, because they can result in infections or other complications, and decrease
the quality of life. As an example, a prospective cohort study conducted in Brazil found that
pressure ulcers could harbor multi drug resistant bacteria that conferred a mortality rate of 100
percent (Braga, Brito, Filho, Filho, Ribas, 2016) and that were able to spread to other patients in
the form of infected pressure ulcers or other hospital acquired infections. The subject... Show more

The Effect of Audio Multitasking and Visual Multitasking...
Multitasking is an idea that many people believe saves time and helps complete tasks in a shorter
amount of time. However, theory suggests that by doing the same type of multitasking tasks, it
would be too strenuous to remember what you just did since both activities were almost the same.
This research paper aims to evaluate how the same type of multitaskingaffects the memory of
humans. Data from twenty seven people were collected in which they had to perform two types of
multitasking activities and take a testto see how much they could remember. Results show that most
participants scored lower test scores on the audio multitasking test compared to the visual

Moreover, performance on individual tasks may suffer such that errors are made and overall
productivity is diminished. (para. 2) also in 2009 Ophir, Nass, and Wagner advised, Moreover,
chronically high multitaskers were more readily distracted by both irrelevant external stimuli and
recently activated internal representations during singular task performance. Overall, people are
more easily distracted if they tend to multi task often.
Many scientists dispel the idea that multitasking is in fact an efficient way of getting things done.
For example, in a study conducted by Clapp, Rubens, Sabbharwal, and Gazzaley (2011) concluded
that, multiple tasks increase task difficulty/complexity, resource capacity limitations, increased
crosstalk conflict, and greater bottleneck processing limitations. This shows that there is a plethora
of research done to prove the ineffectiveness of multitasking. Yet research done in 2013 by Shih
reveals, behavioural and brain research suggests that multitasking is challenging and often stressful
and unproductive. However, most multitasking research observes participants conducting two
cognitive tasks that do not involve media per se (except that tasks are often computerised) This
reveals that most multitasking occurs with the use computers or technology however, many test
subjects and experiments lack that certain

The theoretical framework constructed from this study can be used to guide nursing education,

Walter (2016) states that there is a notable absence of professional nursing education and

Two Negative Aspects Of The Disease Model Of Addiction
The four models of addiction that I have chosen to discuss are the Disease Model of addiction, the
Twin Normative Failure Model, the Defect of Agency Model, and the Habit and Deep Learning
Model.
The disease model of addiction taken broadly characterizes addiction as severe, chronic stage of
substance use disorder, in which there is a substantial loss of self control, as indicated by
compulsive drug taking despite the desire to stop taking the drug (Frank Nagel, 2017). While
reading Addiction and Moralization: The Role of the Underlying Model of Addiction the two
negative aspects of the disease model that I found was that first the disease model states that
addiction is a disease meaning the addicted person has no control over their actions but
according to the text People who suffer from an addiction often refrain from engaging in
addictive behavior for periods; and further, their addiction often requires an elaborate series of
actions, which cannot all be compelled (Frank Nagel, 2017). The second negative aspect that I
found for the disease model is that by referring to addiction as a disease it in turn causes people to
feel stigmatized which prevents them from feeling like they have self control and damages their
self esteem. The two positive aspects of the disease model that I found which for the most part
contradicts the negative aspects, is that the disease model is in fact a disease based on the fact that
addiction changes the way the brain functions much like

Brazil and United States Healthcare

The common problem in Brazil for health care professionals seems to be a lack of distribution
of doctors into the more rural areas of the country. On average in Brazil, there are only 2 hospital
beds per 1,000 people. In the northern regions of Brazil, where more rural areas are found, the
amount of hospitals per resident is lower than the average. Much like in the United States, doctors
are very reluctant to the thought of beginning a practice in a small rural town. Reasons being that
small rural towns are usually less populated and on average bring in less household income. In
Brazil, the idea of practicing medicine in these depressed areas is even less glamorous because of
the government involvement in health care. In these areas, practices receive less attention
including lack of supplies and infrastructure. Physicians located within wealthier and more
populous areas have slightly better access to equipment and infrastructure, but the conditions differ
only slightly. Doctors are extremely rushed with a constant overflow of patients and consistently
working in hot rooms with little air circulation. This is problem does not only exist in the public
clinics of general physicians. Specialist physicians have a persistent flood of patients who do not
need a specialist s care, but seek the specialist because there is no general physician available.

Gothicism In Modernism, AndA Rose For Emily
In short stories, Modernism and Gothicism both play a very important role in character
development and portrayal of themes. These literary movements can be compared and contrasted
between two shorts stories, The Possibility of Evil by Shirley Jackson and A Rose for Emily by
William Faulkner. For Modernism, these stories both show a break in traditional ideals involving
the typical views of society. In relation to Gothicism the most obvious element is the confusion
between good and evil; also, both of the protagonists in these stories are outcast within society, but
the ways they became outcast differ vastly. Altogether, these similarities and differences of these
elements connect the stories smoothly thanks to the purposeful use of literary movements.
Modernism is/was a literary movement that was characterized by a disassociation with tradition
and opposition of established societal views. In A Rose for Emily William Faulknershows this
break in precedent with Mr. Grierson s treatment of Emily as a child. The tableau of her and her
father in the doorway, his back to her and clutching a horsewhip (Faulkner Line 146), perfectly
expresses how her childhood led to her inability to find a suitor. Also, this scene cause a reaction
from the society; the narrator explains that after she turned thirty the people of the town were not
pleased exactly, but vindicated (Faulkner Line 158). Similarly, Shirley Jackson used modernism to
show Miss Strangeworth as an outcast and how

Importance Of Preferential Trade Agreement
Internal Memorandum 2
Countries are increasingly using preferential trade arrangements in order to liberalize trade.
There are specific terms used in this context as such. When talking about a PTA, it should be first
made clear that this is an exception the core WTO principle of MFN. Some countries are treated
better than others for the purposes of such agreements, as opposed to the MFN status of the WTO,
where everybody is treated the same. There are going to be increasing levels of integration
associated with PTAs.
The first one, according to relevant literature is the so called free trade agreement, FTA. Under this
arrangement countries will eliminate restrictions with their other club members , but will continue
to add independent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first two ways of integration deal with movements of goods and services across borders and
WTO commitments. So, to be clear, it is only the FTAs and Customs Unions towards which WTO
rules are addressed. The WTO has certain commitments that members agree to, surrounding these
preferential trade agreements. On an FTA, where the FTA and customs union are treated under art.
XXIV of the GATT, the commitments under the agreements are required that the restrictions on
non members cannot be increased. You can eliminate the barriers among your buddies, but you
cannot increase the tariffs on non members. With the customs union, since there will be a
common policy towards non members, there could be some instances where some good s tariffs
go up for a particular member and down for another. So, it is looking at policies as a whole. There
will be a requirement for compensation as such.
The other expectation is that the restrictions both under the FTA or customs union need to be
removed by members on substantially all trade and within a reasonable amount of time. So, the
idea is that an FTA or customs union will not be only for the auto industry or only for the
agricultural industry, it should be for trade, as a whole. Some agreements in practice do not meet
this criteria and it is possible that a member could bring a dispute settlement case against two other
WTO members, who are not living up

After selling their land, the family rented cottages in a coastal town, where they lived for the next

Nucor s strategy can be elaborated as follows;
Performance Based Compensation Strategy
Compared to the other competitors Nucor provided employees with a performance related
compensation system. All employees were covered under one of four basic compensation plans,
each featuring incentives related to meeting specific goals and targets. 1. Production Incentive Plan.
Employees those directly involved in manufacturing were paid weekly bonuses based on actual
output in relation to anticipated production tonnages produced. The bonuses were paid only for
work that met quality standards and were pegged to work groups, rather than individual output.
Bonuses were tied to attendance and tardiness standards. If one worker s tardiness or attendance
problems caused the group to miss its weekly output target, every member of the group was denied
a bonus for that week. If they are late, even only five minutes, they lose their bonus for the day. If
they are thirty minutes late or they are absent for sickness or anything else, they lose their bonus for
the week. 2. Department Manager Incentive Plan.

Many states view collecting use tax on smaller purchases as burdensome, therefore states have
customarily attempted to collect a use tax only on big ticket items that require licenses such as
cars and boats. Many states over the last several years are increasing enforcement efforts of the use
tax laws to get the state population to pay the taxes due in an attempt to combat internet ordering.
The realities of limited resources as well as the complexities involved with tracking down minor
purchases and demanding that a use tax be paid are limiting the collection efforts.
In the 1992 decision, Quill v. North Dakota, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that retailers are
exempt from collecting sales taxes in states where they have no physical presence, with physical
presence defined by example such as a store, office, or warehouse. The specifics of this case deal
with a catalog mail order company, however, the ruling has been far reaching and has been applied
to all remote sellers, including online retailers. The Court stated requiring companies to comply
with the varied sales tax rules and regulations of 45 states and some 7,500 different local taxing
jurisdictions would burden interstate commerce.
In its ruling, the Court specifically noted that Congress has the authority to change this policy and
could enact legislation requiring all retailers to collect sales taxes without running

Another reason of guests prefer to select a credible brand and it can help them save shopping time
rather then choose a brand and they do not know before. This kind of phenomenon can be found in
the luxury hotels, and some of the customers prefer to pay more money for room and services to
decrease their risks on their expectation, the service from the hotel, and the high quality requirement
on the hotel rooms (Abdelbamied, 2011). Therefore, this proposal will define the impact of brand
credibility on brand preference, information costs saved, perceived risk, and brand prestige on
behavioural intention.
2. Literature Review Nowadays, the importance of brand credibility was greatly admitted as a
significant role in pricing strategies on customer perceptions already, and it shows by the
interactions of the salesperson, and the advertising and online website catalogues. Sweeney and
Swait (2008) identified that trustworthiness and capability are two elements of the brand credibility.
According to the researches by Louviere et al. (2002), it supports that the quality perceptions of the

credibility can probably increase that guests will contain the consideration set of the brand (Erdem

The Iran-Contra Affair
The Iran Contra Affair The Iran Contra Affair was an underground operation within the CIA that
was interwoven between two foreign policy issues that were unlikely to connect had the players in
the ordeal not utilized one to benefit the other. In the early 1900 s, the United States aimed to
protect its interests in Central America, specifically Nicaragua. The United States sent in troops of
Marines to help maintain order in Nicaragua due to civil unrest over a Presidential dispute. The
United States was willing to send in the troops over a concern about Mexico gaining prestige in
Nicaragua by backing Juan Bautista Sacasa, who was previously overthrown as Nicaragua s
President. Sacasa was trying to regain his status of President, though the United States supported
Adolfo Diaz. Sacasa withdrew from trying to claim the presidency after he made an agreement
with the U.S., though in 1932 he did finally become the President of Nicaragua through an
election. Anastasio Somoza Garcia was one of Sacasa s subordinates. He was the head of the
Nicaraguan National Guardsmen. In 1936, with the aid of the United States, the National
Guardsmen overthrew Sacasa. The United States was instrumental in the efforts to overthrow
Sacasa through providing food, training, and uniforms to the National Guardsmen. On January 1,
1937, Anastasio Somoza Garcia assumed the title of President of Nicaragua. The Somoza family

How to Implement Arts and Crafts Style
p The arts and crafts design is a distinctive type of interior design that opts for a beautiful, artistic
and natural feeling. It became popular in the turn of the 20th century as a preferred alternative to
the more conservative, rigid and stuffy design that was common in the Victorian era. It s a style of

home, and it is a wonderful addition to any room. Wooden doors, trim, chairs, tables, bed frames,
dressers, cabinets and more can all be made from wood. Remember that any wood items in the
bathroom should be sealed or treated to prevent rot from the moisture buildup. /p
h2 Color Selection /h2

Food Borne Illness Analysis
In 2015 there was a foodborne illness outbreak at Chipotle; a common and very popular
restaurant. The outbreak had hit several states and a total of 22 were effected by E. Coli and
some even had to be hospitalized (Time 1). This goes to show that consumers are not being
concerned enough with the food they are eating, even at a favorite restaurant. Foodborne
illnesses are preventable, a common problem, and health issue, but they can be very serious and
even fatal. Studies shows that there have been 48 million cases of food borne illnesses annually
which is 1 in 6 Americans each year. This results in 128,000 hospitalizations and 3,000 deaths
(U.S Food and Drug 1). Food Borne illnesses are infections that are usually caused by bacteria,

In the first part, my paper will show some background of nationality which would have an impact
on management. According to Geert Hofstede (1983), there are three important areas included in
nationality, which are political, sociological and psychological aspects. First, political aspect can
be different in each country. Second, sociological aspect can be understood by the way people
think about their values base of belonging to one nation or region. Therefore, each person need to
be circumspect when they work with foreigners to avoid misunderstanding about their
identification, otherwise, that would trigger conflict between them. Third, psychological aspect
refers to the way people think, which was affected by their early life experience in their family
and later education experience. Thus, our experience become mentally programmed . According to
Hofstede (1983) the definition of culture is collective mental programming . In that program,
people in the same nation or region will share their experience, understanding to other, but they
would not share these things to people of the other region or nation. Warner (1996) also suggested
that member of nation or region or group will share similar culture, and through that culture,
standards, and perspective were made, thus, they shape the behavior of a person or a group.
Moreover, culture is enduring because it was created by learning from education, socialization, and

  • 3. Annotated Bibliography Of The Lottery By Shirley Jackson An Annotated Bibliography on The Lottery by Shirley Jackson Nebeker, Helen E. The Lottery : Symbolic Touch De Force Short Story Criticism, edited by Jenny Cromie, vol. 39, Gale Group, 2000, 75 vols, pp. 187 90. Originally published in American Literature, vol. 46, no. 1, March, 1974, pp. 100 07. According to Helen E. Nebeker, most acknowledge the energy of The Lottery, admitting that the psychological stun of the ritual murder in a modern, rural small town cannot be easily overlooked. Virgil Scott, for instance, says, the story leaves me uneasy because of the author s use of incidental symbolism: the black box, the forgotten tuneless chant, the ritual salute to assure the entire recreation of the procedure of the lottery forget to serve the story as they may have. At that point, they indicate fundamental weakness by acknowledging that Jackson has preferred to give no answer to her story, but it leaves the meaning to our imagination, allowing a good deal of flexibility in our interpretation, while yet demanding that everything in the story has been obtained to assure us how we are to take the ending events in the story. Maybe the critical conflict depicted above comes from failure to see that The Lottery really intertwines two stories and subjects into a fictional vehicle. The obvious, easily discovered story shows up in the facts, wherein members of a small town meet to decide who will be the next victim of the annual savagery. The symbolic hints which develop into a second, sub rosa story becomes apparent as early as the fourth word of the story when the date of June 27th alerts us to the season of the summertime with all its connotation of ancient ritual. From the symbolic development of the black box, the story shifts quickly to climax. Oehlschlaeger, Fritz. The Stoning of Mistress Hutchinson: Meaning and Context in The Lottery. Essays in Literature, vol. 15, no. 2, Fall88, pp. 259 265. Literary Reference Center, search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true db=lfh AN=24389373 site=ehost live. In Fritz Oehlschlaeger s response of Shirley Jackson The Lottery , there is a strong example of detail in the story proposing that those who are most agitated by, or resistant to, the lottery are women. ... • 4. Subsistence Patterns Of Anthropology Horticulture is defined as the production of plants using a simple nonmechanized technology (Nanda and Warms 2006:148), while Webster s Dictionary defines horticulture as the art or science of growing fruits, vegetables, plants, flowers, or trees. When most people think of horticulture, they simply think of gardening or farming. Most people do not associate horticulture with culture itself or how horticulture relates to anthropology, or the study human culture. In all actuality, horticulture is a major part of cultural anthropology. (Carvalho et al. 1989:239) The Yanomamo Indians of the Amazon rain forest are organized by patrilineal kinship relationships, patrilineal descent from ancestors, and marriage exchanges between kinship/descent groups. In the Yanomamo tribes, the men are the leaders. The male leaders positions are mostly because of marriage patterns and kinship. Yanomamo people often participate in arranged marriages and the tribesmen often take multiple wives. In addition to polygamy, cross cousin marriages are also a part of the Yanomamo culture. Woman are more or less possessions in the Yanomami culture and the males position of power or importance is often rated or scaled based on the number of wives he has. The woman spend most of their time fetching water, caring for their children, and visiting with one another. The woman of the tribe often spend a good deal of time weaving baskets and other small crafts and also engage to some degree in fishing. The other main responsibilities include cooking, gathering firewood and berries and fruits. The men of the tribe are responsible for the distribution of food for the Yanomamo people. Males do the majority of the fishing and hunting and while they do not eat the animals they hunt, rather they share their meat with others within the tribe. • 5. God Of Carnage Analysis God of Carnage by Yasmina Reza is centered upon two upper class couples who come together to discuss a fight between their boys. Through this meeting, they become their children fighting, causing absolute chaos and carnage of the situation. All of them lose their objective in the end of wanting to solve the problem of their boys and to be the most civilized, powerful couple in the situation. Specifically Annette, played by junior Sarah Cushman, ultimately loses her battle of maintaining a civilized demeanor due to the killing of Veronica and Michael s hamster, her husband s work related calls, and drunkenly listening to Veronica about being a phony when emotions were already at their peak. One of the first conversations is about Michael getting... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At this time, Veronica insulted Henry, Annette and Alan s son, and, in turn, Annette stood up for her son. She was then called a phony by the other couple, prompting her to leave. As Alan was not paying attention, per usual, she grabbed the tulips and beat him with them, bawling about how it is the worst day of her life, too. At this point, she has lost all civility and power. She embarrassed herself and nothing was solved with the meeting. Cushman stuck with her given circumstances so well by the point. She was defensive of her child, her husband lacked the attention and care to deal with the situation, she was drunk which caused her emotions to escalate, and she knew she had not been civil. Cushman allowed the audience to see the defeat of Annette. There were many more moments when Annette failed to reach her super objective, but the fate of the hamster, the destruction of Alan s cell phone, and her reaction to being called a phony all were major points in losing civility and represented her downfall into causing carnage. Her downfall was clearly articulated by Sarah Cushman and overall every point of outrageous activity was justified by playing into the given ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. My Dreams In My Life One summer afternoon after indulging on General Tso s Tofu and spring rolls I cracked open the crisp fortune cookie and received a vague prophecy reading old dreams never die; they just get filed away . My friend next to me interpreted my fortune to say that I will give up on my dreams. My other friend then believed it said that growing up meant acquiring new aspirations. Everyone around the table seemed to have their own perceptionof what it meant, although they all perceived it to be a rather pessimistic and unfortunate fortune. I disagreed. I understood the aphorism to mean that although we mature, we hold on to our ambitions as they set the foundations for who we are. While reflecting on my old dreams a specific assignment from preschool came to mind. We were asked what we wanted to be when we grew up. Common answers from the class included princess, fireman, teacher and all the typical ambitions of young children. I remember my answer simply was a helper. When asked to elaborate I simply said my goal was to help people. I don t believe my old dreams were given up on, I believe they were filed away in the sense I have continued to hold on to them even as I have grown up. I see myself working towards that goal when I volunteered at a doctor s office where I had the privilege of personally aiding the patients. Shadowing a family practitioner I saw that people of all different walks of life all did get sick and need help. I found directly communicating with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sunlight beams through arched windows encased in stained glass; reflecting rays of red, blue, green, and yellow throughout the entryway. Below our feet, a wood floor echoes as we walk, and silences with a step onto the red carpet. Dark mahogany pews stand at attention to our left and right. Directly above on the back wall, a stained glass image of a woman standing over an infant in a cradle, sunlight illuminating her delicate features, she gazes down at the child. Her thin angelic lips slightly open, her hands clasped together in a prayer like stance. A blue veil cascades down her shoulders interlocking with her robe below. Its scriptures tell the story of the life of Jesus, believed by Christians to be the Messiah, Son of God in human form, and sent by God to fulfill the promises and prophesies of the Old Testament. In comparison, the Holy Quran, written after the Old Testament, remains in its original form. Written in Arabic, Quran means recitation and contains Islamic teachings believed to bring guidance, direction, and IS the word of God, whom they call Allah. It is against Islamic law to change the text in any way because Muslims believe Mohammad, founder of Islam, wrote the verses as revealed to him by the angel Gabriel. Muslims view Mohammad not as the creator of the religion, but as the restorer of the original the Hebrew Bible. Islam teaches Mohammad was not only a religious prophet but also a political and military leader. He was human, but not without sin, so he is not God. Although there have been several language translations, a good follower must read and memorize its teaching in its native Arabic language. • 9. Informative Essay On Fireworks Morrison, Haley Chemistry, Period 5 Due Date: November 17, 2017 Every 4th of July, many people go out at night and spend hours watching firework shows. Most of us are content to simply enjoy the pretty colors and sparks, without questioning the chemistry behind the spectacle, but have you ever really thought about how fireworks produce such vibrant colors? The colors emitted when a firework explodes come from an aerial shell inside the firework that contains explosive chemicals and metallic salts. These colors appear to us because of luminescence. Luminescence occurs as a result of the valence electrons in the metal salt atoms moving and changing positions. The explosion of fireworks is not a miracle; it s simply chemistry at work. When we see fireworks explode, what we re actually seeing is the explosion of components inside the aerial shell. The aerial shell is made up of gunpowder and stars, small lumps that are comprised of fuel, an oxidizing agent, a metal containing colorant, and a binder. These stars are what give the fireworks their colors. (De Antonis, pg 8). The metal containing colorant produces the color when it s exposed to a flame (in this case, the ignition of the gunpowder) then the fuel and oxidizing agent combine to create a chemical reaction that yields powerful heat and gas (De Antonis, pg 8).The binder holds all these ingredients together when the firework explodes. When the fuse at the bottom of a firework is lit, the energy propels it upwards until ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He shared minimal characteristics with his mother the Ninsun, the cow goddess, such as bold physical structures and the strength of a wild bull with his mother, Ninsun, but the rest of him including his personality, ways of thinking, and mentality was a human s nonetheless. Initially, Gilgamesh was known as the tortuous, superb, accomplished, and fierce king of Uruk who drove people out of their sanity and sought trouble. He was an arrogant, overconfident being who loved to prove to himself that he s undefeatable even though he knew it from the core of his heart. In fact, the whole kingdom of Uruk knew it. He frequently held competitions to determine the mightiest of all in the kingdom which required the presence of every single victim. Unfortunately, no man was spared to be the opponent of the man who had the vitality of a wild bull. It was said that He was harrying the young men of Uruk beyond reason, Gilgamesh leaves no son to his father! (101, line 59 60).The intense thirst for competing that Gilgamesh had, conveys how it s the human nature to have a big an ego, and prove to themselves that they are the finest of all. I thought the goal of Economics, as a social science, was to achieve the maximum welfare of people while efficiently using resources. So how is income inequality that renders many people worse off, not an issue? By not stating his opinion, he wished to remain unbiased. However, if everyone were to keep their understanding of justice and inequality to themselves without meaningful dialogues, no societal issue would gain attention or action. I felt my theoretical background required training in practical applications to conceive working solutions to some of the most pressing problems of our time. Realizing I want to be equipped with the tools necessary to take appropriate measures when the welfare of individuals is compromised, I knew I should seek an education in Public Policy. With my interdisciplinary academic background, I aspire to contribute to the field of Public Policy by bringing a transnational feminist perspective to the socio economic policy discourse. For the children highlighted in the documentary Waiting for Superman, hope is the only thing driving them to achieve a commendable educationin today s failing school system. Davis Guggenheim, an American film and tv director, produced this documentary in hopes of eliciting a worried response for the future of education in the United States. He reflects the individual struggles of students as well as a general view of the education system through animations and the overall structure of the documentary. Guggenheim urges the audience to notice the system s detrimental aspects and take action in order to save our prospective students. Within the documentary, Guggenheim portrays clips of animation, specifically during moments when a great amount of facts and statistics are presented. • 22. Analysis of Socrates Definition of Justice in The Republic An Analysis of Socrates Definition of Justice Introduction This paper will consider Socrates definition of justice in the individual by showing what, according to this definition, makes people and action just and whether Socrates definition of justice is plausible. It appears that Socrates definition of justice is plausible but demanding. However, because the transcendentals that Socrates seeks are like the light at the top of the mountain up which the philosopher climbs after leaving the cave, it must be realized that the journey toward justice is one of labor but not one that is implausible. Context Plato founded the Academy at Athens after Socrates death and preserved the lessons that Socrates had taught, essentially laying a foundation for the study of philosophy in Western Civilization. Plato s Republic seeks to unite the lessons of the Academy with the circle of politics that occupied much of Plato s life: The Republic, in fact, teaches that unless philosophy and politics unite completely, the evils of the state will never cease. This unity, indeed, is what is at the core of Socrates (and therefore Plato s) definition of justice. As B. M. Laing states, The Republic argues that justice is the principle which co ordinates different arts (Laing, The Problem of Justice in Plato s Republic, p. 412). Summary Of Orientalism And The Clash Of Civilization The way in which Said and Huntington define culture within their texts Orientalism and The Clash of Civilisation, divulges each author s position within and perception of both the Arab and Western Worlds. The difference in each author s ideology and contexts Said (a professor in comparative lit with a Palestinian background, writing in 1978, a time of conflict and devastation in the middle east) and Huntington, (an American political scientist writing at a time in which his country is at a height of its power), causes what is described by Said as The clash of definitions (SD). Said views cultureas a culmination and product of ideologies, morals and beliefs propagated by members of society. Huntington views culture as more definite, established and finite. Said defines a specific culture in relation to others whist Huntington believes each culture is its own separate entity. Through the exploration of these contrasting views it can be interpreted that a key difference between each definition is that Said defines culture as more broad and capable of being influenced whilst Huntington views it only as a powerful influencer. This may also reflect their positions as either from the West or the Orient. Whilst Huntington defines culture as basic and less mutable , Said acknowledges culture as a complex matter . He defines culture as a product of society and its values and refers to Gramsci s theories of consent and cultural hegemony to support this definition. Gramsci s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. The Indian Reservation System An Indian Reservation is a legal territory managed by a certain Native American tribe given to them, with only partial sovereignty, by the United States government. Only 326 of the country s 567 recognized tribes were granted land, but even the land they were granted is not sufficient enough to support a sustainable lifestyle. With no rights to their land, no sense of home, and a rapidly dying culture, native americans have been dealt with in the worst ways possible after their own massacre and consistently broken treaties. An analysis of the Indian reservationsystem in the US provides deeper insight to the idea that the treatment of natives has left profound, long lasting negative impacts on the lives of native Americans. BODY PARAGRAPH NUMBER 1: (PUT IN TOPIC SENTENCE) Some officials in the early years of the American republic, such as President George Washington, believed that the best way to solve this Indian problem was simply to civilize the Native Americans. The goal of this civilization campaign was to make Native Americans as much like white Americans as possible by encouraging them convert to Christianity, learn to speak and read English, and adopt European style economic practices such as the individual ownership of land and other property (including, in some instances in the South, African slaves). Analysis: This quote shows the urgency by the US government to wipe out native culture during the start of the reservation system. Words used in this quote such ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The History Of Delta Airlines Andrew Trentmann Professor Weiland ASCI 602 19 November 2016 The History of Delta Airlines Delta Airlines originally started in 1924 as, Huff Daland Dusters, the first crop dusting company in existence (History, n.d.). To avoid the lulls of winter, when no crop dusting was performed in the U.S., Huff Daland extended its dusting services to Peru (Hoogerwerf, 2010). Peruvian Airways, a Pan Am subsidiary, began flying both passenger and air mail contracts for Huff Daland in its first entry into the passenger market (History, n.d. and Hoogerwerf, 2010). Due to the unstable political environment in South America, this portion of the company was sold, and the U.S. portion of Huff Daland Dusters was bought from its parent company (Huff Daland Manufacturing Company) by a group of investors with C.E. Woolman placed as the vice president and manager of operations (History, n.d.). During this buyout from its parent company Huff Daland Dusters became rebranded as Delta Air Service. (History, n.d.). With Woolman running the company and going on to eventually become President and CEO, Delta Air Service began its first passenger route in 1929 flying from Dallas to Jackson (History, n.d.). In 1930 the inability to secure airmail contracts by being excluded from the spoils conference caused Delta to temporarily stop passenger service and fall back on agricultural spraying (History, n.d. and Hoogerwerf, 2010). • 34. Pressure Ulcer Prevention Essay Pressure Ulcer Prevention in the Acute Care Setting Pressure ulcers are localized wounds to the skin that are also known as decubitus ulcers, or are known by the colloquial term bed sores. They are common occurrences in healthcare that result from injuries to the skin and the tissues beneath it when the patient remains in one position for long periods of time. Pressure ulcers are typically located over an area with a bony prominence that then causes pressure on the skin. Pressure ulcers are especially common in individuals in extended care facilities, but can occur even in an acute setting. Pressure ulcers, in fact, can develop in just 24 hours, although they may not be apparent to healthcare providers until up to 7 days later (Truong, Grigson, Patel, Liu, 2016). For immobile or relatively immobile patients, pressure ulcers are one of the most serious problems that can occur, because they can result in infections or other complications, and decrease the quality of life. As an example, a prospective cohort study conducted in Brazil found that pressure ulcers could harbor multi drug resistant bacteria that conferred a mortality rate of 100 percent (Braga, Brito, Filho, Filho, Ribas, 2016) and that were able to spread to other patients in the form of infected pressure ulcers or other hospital acquired infections. However, theory suggests that by doing the same type of multitasking tasks, it would be too strenuous to remember what you just did since both activities were almost the same. This research paper aims to evaluate how the same type of multitaskingaffects the memory of humans. Overall, people are more easily distracted if they tend to multi task often. Many scientists dispel the idea that multitasking is in fact an efficient way of getting things done. For example, in a study conducted by Clapp, Rubens, Sabbharwal, and Gazzaley (2011) concluded that, multiple tasks increase task difficulty/complexity, resource capacity limitations, increased crosstalk conflict, and greater bottleneck processing limitations. This shows that there is a plethora of research done to prove the ineffectiveness of multitasking. Yet research done in 2013 by Shih reveals, behavioural and brain research suggests that multitasking is challenging and often stressful and unproductive. However, most multitasking research observes participants conducting two cognitive tasks that do not involve media per se (except that tasks are often computerised) This reveals that most multitasking occurs with the use computers or technology however, many test subjects and experiments lack that certain ... • 39. Two Negative Aspects Of The Disease Model Of Addiction The four models of addiction that I have chosen to discuss are the Disease Model of addiction, the Twin Normative Failure Model, the Defect of Agency Model, and the Habit and Deep Learning Model. The disease model of addiction taken broadly characterizes addiction as severe, chronic stage of substance use disorder, in which there is a substantial loss of self control, as indicated by compulsive drug taking despite the desire to stop taking the drug (Frank Nagel, 2017). While reading Addiction and Moralization: The Role of the Underlying Model of Addiction the two negative aspects of the disease model that I found was that first the disease model states that addiction is a disease meaning the addicted person has no control over their actions but according to the text People who suffer from an addiction often refrain from engaging in addictive behavior for periods; and further, their addiction often requires an elaborate series of actions, which cannot all be compelled (Frank Nagel, 2017). The second negative aspect that I found for the disease model is that by referring to addiction as a disease it in turn causes people to feel stigmatized which prevents them from feeling like they have self control and damages their self esteem. The two positive aspects of the disease model that I found which for the most part contradicts the negative aspects, is that the disease model is in fact a disease based on the fact that addiction changes the way the brain functions much like ... While the United States steps into a immature national health care program, the government can observe Brazil s health care system to learn valuable lessons. The common problem in Brazil for health care professionals seems to be a lack of distribution of doctors into the more rural areas of the country. On average in Brazil, there are only 2 hospital beds per 1,000 people. In the northern regions of Brazil, where more rural areas are found, the amount of hospitals per resident is lower than the average. Much like in the United States, doctors are very reluctant to the thought of beginning a practice in a small rural town. Reasons being that small rural towns are usually less populated and on average bring in less household income. In Brazil, the idea of practicing medicine in these depressed areas is even less glamorous because of the government involvement in health care. In these areas, practices receive less attention including lack of supplies and infrastructure. Physicians located within wealthier and more populous areas have slightly better access to equipment and infrastructure, but the conditions differ only slightly. Doctors are extremely rushed with a constant overflow of patients and consistently working in hot rooms with little air circulation. This is problem does not only exist in the public clinics of general physicians. Specialist physicians have a persistent flood of patients who do not need a specialist s care, but seek the specialist because there is no general physician available. Another challenge that ... • 41. Gothicism In Modernism, AndA Rose For Emily In short stories, Modernism and Gothicism both play a very important role in character development and portrayal of themes. These literary movements can be compared and contrasted between two shorts stories, The Possibility of Evil by Shirley Jackson and A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner. For Modernism, these stories both show a break in traditional ideals involving the typical views of society. In relation to Gothicism the most obvious element is the confusion between good and evil; also, both of the protagonists in these stories are outcast within society, but the ways they became outcast differ vastly. Altogether, these similarities and differences of these elements connect the stories smoothly thanks to the purposeful use of literary movements. Modernism is/was a literary movement that was characterized by a disassociation with tradition and opposition of established societal views. In A Rose for Emily William Faulknershows this break in precedent with Mr. Grierson s treatment of Emily as a child. The tableau of her and her father in the doorway, his back to her and clutching a horsewhip (Faulkner Line 146), perfectly expresses how her childhood led to her inability to find a suitor. Some countries are treated better than others for the purposes of such agreements, as opposed to the MFN status of the WTO, where everybody is treated the same. The first two ways of integration deal with movements of goods and services across borders and WTO commitments. So, to be clear, it is only the FTAs and Customs Unions towards which WTO rules are addressed. The WTO has certain commitments that members agree to, surrounding these preferential trade agreements. On an FTA, where the FTA and customs union are treated under art. XXIV of the GATT, the commitments under the agreements are required that the restrictions on non members cannot be increased. You can eliminate the barriers among your buddies, but you cannot increase the tariffs on non members. With the customs union, since there will be a common policy towards non members, there could be some instances where some good s tariffs go up for a particular member and down for another. So, it is looking at policies as a whole. There will be a requirement for compensation as such. The other expectation is that the restrictions both under the FTA or customs union need to be removed by members on substantially all trade and within a reasonable amount of time. So, the idea is that an FTA or customs union will not be only for the auto industry or only for the agricultural industry, it should be for trade, as a whole.
