GQ is a very popular and
recognisable magazine. When you
see the iconic ‘GQ’ you know that
you are buying a good quality
product as it is read by many and
has a good reputation among
magazines.
Drake being the celebrity used on
the front cover will instantly
attract a huge audience because
Drake is seen by many as an idol,
role model and inspiration. He is
also arguably the most popular
rapper of our modern day which is
evident as all his work is always
highly anticipated and he had song
of the year in 2017.
He is also wearing professional and
presentable clothes which suggests
that he is successful. The use of
plain colours like navy, white and
black which have connotations of
being cold and cool colours which
show how Drake is cool, they’re
soft colours and not to ‘out there’
which makes the magazine more
professional.
The colours and consistency makes the
magazine more attractive as it looks
neat and organized. The clear definition
between sections reduces confusion so
that readers feel like the magazine
could be easily read without actually
opening it.
As well as the magazine focusing mainly
on Drake, the magazine also has
interesting side topics focusing on
Football violence which has had a lot of
controversy surrounding it in recent
years. Football violence was the talking
point of the Euros in 2016 as it affected
many people therefore people will want
to find out the resolutions.
The strapline reading “The perfect
driverless car – The best film you’ll see
this year” without revealing too much
information is already enticing more
readers as it uses adjectives like ‘best’
and ‘perfect’ which highly suggest that
you would want to read as they have
been described as this good.
Analysis of Magazine Website
Masthead/logo establishes the
brand of the magazine as soon
as you open the page. The red
background of the XXL logo
distinguishes it from the rest of
the page, it immediately
attracts the focus of the eye as
it is a strong red and is
certainly the first thing you
look at.
The website is well sectioned
despite there being a lot going
on, there is various headlines of
relevant information displayed
about the urban hip-hop genre
where Rap gurus can go to get
up to date with the latest news
of this subculture.
The main image on this screen
shot is actually a revolving
slideshow of the top headlines
to keep reeling in consumers so
that they can try to keep
people reading for as long as
they can.
There is also adverts on the website so
that the magazine can generate ad
revenue. Having this at the side of the
page is easily accessible and viewable by
the audience.
Celebrity endorsement is also a key part
of XXL as popular faces are used as a
method to attract more consumers as
they may see their idols/ favourite
artists and click to see the news.
