Discarded pictures:
In my shoot, I went for a variety of different
shot types to see what would fit in my
posters, the ones seen here will not appear in
my poster due to different reasons, the first
reason being the fact that the images appear
to be too cluttered which would seem
unproffesional and rushed. Another reason is
that the pictures were taken at a slight tilt or
not what I was aiming to achieve.
Contact sheet: (Discarded)
Contact sheet: (Used photos)
Used pictures:
I have chosen to use these pictures as they are what I need for this project,
the pictures of the main model are great for what I need as they don't
have much invading light, to disrupt the image itself, furthermore, I have
chosen this picture of the town for my quad poster as it is dark enough,
however something to note is that it is cluttered, this is because it shows
the audience that this town is more alive and gives the audience a bit
more information on the character and what he is watching over.
Furthermore, it also allows me to make some edits to it so I can adjust
various parts. These pictures also follow the usual stereotypes of action
movie posters such that feature the main character being seen on the
front of the poster using weapons and wearing casual clothes, some
examples of this could be either R.I.P.D or Terminator. Regarding the mask,
I chose this image because it has connotations to the mystery genre of
posters and creates an enigma for the audience to try and figure out when
first viewing this poster.
Set up: (Studio)
When I was doing my various
shoots, I primarily used this set up.
It was easy to use and relatively
easy to set up. Regarding the
safety of it, I made sure that I
wasn't around any large crowds
that could disrupt or make my
picture seem out of focus.
Image series – Quad Crown
Poster
The choice of a city as the setting is
related to the action genre as most
action film posters, such as Die Hard,
The Matrix as well as V for Vendetta.
The lighting is warm, while also quite dark,
which correlates to mystery movies as it
implies two different sides to a story, as
seen on the Sixth Sense movie poster.
The use of a leather jacket, hoodie and red
mask that covers most of the face
make the character look more
anonymous. This is done to help the
audience see themselves as this character.
Furthermore, this relates to the mystery
genre as in some mystery movie posters, a
character's face is hidden behind a mask
or shadows.
Regarding the composition, I framed the
model to the far left of the image so that
when I place him in the city image, this
implies that the city is of importance to
the character as he is placing himself in
front of it, signifying that he is defending
it.
Technical information:
Exposure: 1/50 secs.
ISO: 1600
Device used: Sony DSC-HX400V
F Stop: f/8
Technical Information:
Exposure: 1/80 secs.
ISO: 80
Device used: Sony DSC-HX400V
F Stop: f/7.1
With these settings, I intended to create an
image that was dark and allowed me to convey
the feeling of an action movie, while also
containing some elements of a mystery movie
poster, notably the posters for Terminator 2 and
Zodiac. Furthermore, the images fit the brief as
it is of a cityscape and relates to the action
movie and mystery movie poster genres.
Regarding the aspects of the pictures, I wanted
everything to be in frame rather than out of
focus. Finally, the meaning I have tried to
convey is that this character sees this city as
important and worth protecting.
Image Series - TheatricalLike the quad poster, I have chosen a city street as the
background as it heavily relates to the action movie
posters, as well as mystery movie posters.
The lighting in these pictures (mainly the bottom one),
is dark and there is barely any bright lights, again,
relating to the darker lighting traditionally seen on
mystery movie posters, as well as action movie posters
such as T2 and Zodiac.
Technical Information:
Exposure: 1/30 secs.
ISO: 400
Device Used: Sony DSC-HX400V
F Stop: f/3.5For the costume, I chose denim jeans, a leather jacket, a
red mask and two prop guns. I personally think that this
relates more to the action movie genre of posters due to
a variety of different action movie posters usually
feature a character holding weapons and wearing either
casual styled clothes (Terminator, Baby Driver or The Last
Action Hero.) or more formal/military based (John Wick,
Logan, American Sniper and Battle Los Angeles.)
When I was taking the pictures of the model, I wanted to get
the model as close to the middle as possible. This is related to
other action movie posters that feature only one character on
the front, furthermore, I chose this composition as the
character can easily fit into the image, I chose to be my
background.
When I was taking these two pictures, I wanted to
create a similar appearance to what I did for my
quad poster, so, I set my camera to similar settings,
I think this is what helped me to get this more in
line look that links it to the quad/crown
poster. Furthermore, I chose the street setting as it
links back to most classic action movie and mystery
movie posters, some good examples of this could
be Die Hard or Mystery Street.
Teaser poster image.
Technical info:
Exposure: 1/5 secs.
ISO: 1600
F/Stop: 3.5
Device used: Sony DSC-HX400V and a
tripod.
For this poster, I made it relate
more towards the mystery genre
rather than the action genre, this is
because it builds an enigma for the
audience as they don't know who
will where this mask.
Regarding the setting, I decided to not put it in a
city and rather have it in a setting we don't see
much of, this is putting further emphasis on the
character and their identity, this style is similar to
that of the Scream teaser poster as it just features a
mask against a normal background.
For the lighting, I made sure it was
dark so there wasn't much
invading light, furthermore, this
choice of lighting outs further
emphasis on the mystery side of
things, this poster also relates to
the Zodiac poster and other
mystery movie teaser posters that
have dark lighting.
When I was doing the composition,
I wanted to make sure that the
mask was in the center of the
image so that the mask is what the
audience is drawn to when they
first view the poster.
With this image, I wanted to create a mysterious
apperance that could link to the engima ideals
as the audience would try to figure out more
about this character from this poster and what is
in it. I also wanted to diverge from what I did for
my previous two posters with the setting choice
of a city and instead I set it inside of a building,
with barely any hints as to where this location is.
Furthermore, this poster also takes inspiration
from teaser posters such as Scream where we
only see a mask against a simple background.
