This report summarizes a survey conducted by Felma Media Agency Uganda Limited between April 10-30, 2017 to assess the performance of radio stations in eastern Uganda. Over 300 people were surveyed across 20 districts using observation and interviews. The report found that NBS radio had the largest audience share at 32% followed by Baaba FM and Open Gate FM. Constant power outages were cited as a major challenge limiting radio station performance. For TV, NBS TV was the leading station with 23% audience share, followed by NTV at 21% and Bukedde TV at 17%. The full report is available from Felma Media Agency.

2. Executive summary
Felma Media Media LTD was commissioned to assess the performance of radio stations in
eastern Uganda.
In this report, the researcher (herein referred to as Felma Media Agency LTD) used field surveys
through observation and face to face interview methods to get data in this research. This research
was carried out in Eastern districts of Uganda on fifty six (56) radio stations in the region.
One of the big challenges which limit effective performance of radio stations in the region is
constant power blackout and followed by poor management.
NBS radio is the leading radio station in the area; followed by BAABA fm and open gate Mbale.
Capital radio has listeners in the whole region due to its large coverage.
The researcher compared the strength of different radio stations found in the same district like
Eastern voice and Jogo Fm whose target audience is mainly Bugiri and Busia district.
The audience of Bukedde TV in the region is increasingly getting small while that of NTV is
increasingly growing big. NBS TV is also attracting a big audience in the region.
SURVEY COVERAGE
This survey was conducted in eastern part of Uganda in districts of; Jinja, Buyende, Kaliro,
Kamuli, Namutamba, Iganga, Bugiri, Mayuge, Buikwe, Luuka, Namayingo, Busia, Tororo,
Mbale, Sironko, Balambuli, Kapichorwa, Katakwi , Soroti and Kumi, Kweni.
This research was conducted in April 2017.
