This document summarizes a training program that provides Cisco networking certification to inmates prior to their release. The 12-week course is run through a partnership between Maximum Balance Foundation SPC, Cisco, and SVT Group. The goal is to reduce recidivism by providing in-demand job skills. Graduates have a path to 180 days of pre-employment training and 24-36 months of on-the-job training through partnerships with companies. Initial results found cost savings of over $106k per person by reducing rates of reincarceration. The training is aimed at addressing the large need for STEM workers and providing opportunities for the educated population in Bay Area jails.
