The 2015 PetronasMLNG Bintulu RegionalChoralSpeaking
Competition for Primary and Secondary schools is going to start
any minutefrom now. All contestants and guests are invited to
come insidethe hall and take your seats. Thank you.
A very good morningto all of you.
On behalf of the organising committee we are pleased to
welcome all of you to this competition. This is the least we could
do within the short period of time given to us. We would like to
apologize in advance for any shortcomings and inconveniences
encountered during this competition.
For your information this competition is sponsored by
PETRONAS MLNG Bintulu. Thank you very much to MLNG
Bintulu.
This competition is a joint effort between the Curricullum Unit
of Bintulu District Education Department and SMK Kidurong,
Bintulu. As such teachers from other schools in Bintulu as well
as staffs from MLNG Bintulu are also helping out in this event.
So, on behalf of the organising committee, we would like to
extend our heartfelt gratitude to MLNG for sponsoring this
event and also to all the teachers and the MLNG staffs for
helping out in this competition.
Ladies and gentlemen, for your information, altogether, there
are 29 schools taking part in this competition, 20 of these are
primary schools while 9 are secondary schools. The following

To make surethat this competition will flow smoothly allow me
to read to you the competition rules:
1. This competition is divided into 2 categories which are
primary school and secondary school.
2. This competition is open to pupilsof government-aided
schools from Year 4 to Year 6 only.
3. Year 3 studentsare allowed to participate if they are from
under-enrolled schools.
4. Each choral speakingteam comprisesof membersfrom
the same school.
5. For primary school category, each team is given a
presentation time limit of 5 to 8 minutes. Markswill be
deducted thereafter.
6. For the secondary school category, each team is given a
presentation time limit of 8 to 10 minutes. Markswill be
deducted thereafter.
7. Each team should comprise30 to 35 pupilsor students. A
conductor should be appointed amongstthese pupilsor
students.
8. Each team should be accompanied by 4 teachers –in-
charge.
9. Selection of texts may be in form of poetry or short prose.
Texts should preferably be original and authentic.
10. Adapted texts includingthose from previousyears
should be acknowledged by citing the source.
11. Participants are not allowed to refer to any notes or
printed materials duringthe presentation.
12. Materials presented mustnot touch on sensitive
issues, such as race, religion stereotyping, politics and etc.
13. Copiesof choral speaking texts mustbe submitted
to the organisers two weeksprior to the competition.
14. All participations should be in school uniform when
competing.
15. The conductor may usegloves.
16. There should be no inclusion of music, drama,
costume, propsor artificial sound effect.
17. Any inclusion of singing, skit or physical movement
should enhance and not dominatethe presentation.
18. The arrangementof the teams on the stage willbe

in fixed 3 tiered rows.
19. This Bintulu RegionalLevelcompetition will be
judged by 8 judges.
20. The best conductor should be judged by a separate
panelof 3 judges.
21. The judgesare appointed by the Division of Co-
Curricullum and Arts, Ministry of Education.
22. Points willbe awarded accordingto the scoresheet.
23. Judgeswill collectively determinethe placing by
clear majority vote.
24. The decision of the judgesis final.
25. Individualteam markswill not be disclosed.
26. Plaques and certificates will be awarded to the
winningteams.
27. Certificate of participation will be awarded to all
participating teams.
