As a transfer student in their first year living away from home, the author was struggling academically and lacking knowledge. However, they wanted to get involved and meet new people in their field of study. The author was nervous about the extra workload of being a first year rep but found it comforting to be surrounded by amazing, supportive people facing similar issues or willing to provide helpful advice. Through their CAFP involvement, the author was able to improve their academic performance and gain valuable experience for their future career.

The director of events for CAI-NJ discusses how demand for their events has grown significantly, with around 80% of events selling out in 2016. This has caused issues for members who are unable to register after capacity is reached. To help address this, the director has created a chart showing the typical times that registration opens for major CAI-NJ events throughout the year, to better inform members of upcoming opportunities. Expanding venues and providing early notice of registration openings are efforts to maximize networking opportunities for their growing membership.
