1) The Ramsar Convention aims to conserve and sustainably manage wetlands of international importance. Australia was the first signatory in 1974 and has listed 18 sites, including the Gippsland Lakes.
2) The Gippsland Lakes were listed in 1982 based on criteria around representation, supporting waterbirds, and supporting over 20,000 waterbirds.
3) Monitoring shows the ecological character of the Gippsland Lakes is changing and responses are needed to better manage the multiple drivers of change and ensure the site maintains its international importance.

Inventory of Wetlands Fowls by Sana HaroonSana_haroon
A wetland is a place where the land is covered by water, either salt, fresh or somewhere in between.
Marshes and ponds, the edge of a lake or ocean, mouth of a river, all of these are wetlands.
They may be natural or man made.
Natural wetlands include rivers, streams, lakes, marshes, bogs and swamps etc.
Man-made wetlands include canals, ponds, paddy fields, fish farms etc.
They cover approximately six percent of surface area of the globe and occur almost in every country right from tundra region to tropical areas.
Benefits of Wetland and Its Well -being Supports: A Review on Behula Wetland ...Susanta Mahato
Wetland is one of the earth's most important freshwater resources. They perform many functions in the maintenance of the ecological balance of the region. Some of the important functions include water storage, protection from storms and floods, recharge of ground water, water purification, fisheries, agriculture, wildlife resource, transport, recreation etc. This paper discussed about “Behula” wetland (25003'05"N- 25003'35"N and 8807'15"E- 8808'43"E) of Old Malda Municipality of Malda district (W. B.). The objectives of the presentation is changing land use pattern of the Behula wetland and its direct and indirect resources that provide the economic support of the local people. This presentation is also interested to illustrate the fact that in spite of having economic potentialities and ecological viabilities how this wetland is infested by a lot of man induced problems. Being an urban wetland it has enough capability to purify the waste water which urban area used to produce every day. It can supply a good amount of fish resources in the local market and reduce the scarcity of the same. Planned use of this resource really can cater our both marginal and other section of people.

Planning in the region starts with a vision about what we want to be. It is the aspiration of the Filipinos particularly those from SOCCSKSARGEN Region to have a long-term vision for the region and the country as a whole to become a prosperous, predominantly middle class society where no one is poor. The challenge is how every Filipino can afford to have a “matatag, maginhawa at panatag na buhay by 2040.”
Ensuring ecosystem integrity in Indian Sundarbansaranyermajhe
Peer Assignment - Turn Down the Heat: Why a 4°C Warmer World Must be Avoided : This artifact is intended for decision makers in the state of West Bengal, India. There is relatively little knowledge on the status of the Sundarbans ecosystem resilience and biodiversity groups contributing to it. However, the loss of diversity within functional groups may weaken the ability of the system to adapt to climate change impacts and therein impact the dependant community. The ecosystem linkers that control resilience and ecological stability in the Sundarbans should be determined. Decision makers will hardly have any control over extraneous drivers of change such as the climate but can alter present policies and pattern of governance.

Participants will be invited to take part in a group exercise to identify gaps and needs, as well as entry points and opportunities for integrating EBA.
Wetland restoration: an emerging issue and management in changing climateIARI, NEW DELHI
Wetlands provide significant social, economic and environmental benefits. Wetlands are associated with several activities like water storage, groundwater recharge, storm protection, flood mitigation, shoreline stabilization, erosion control, and retention of carbon, nutrients, sediments and pollutants. Wetlands can also produce services that have a significant economic value such as clean fresh water, fisheries, timber, peat, wildlife resources and tourism opportunities. The loss and degradation of wetlands is driven by several factors, i.e., climatic and non climatic. Presently increased demand for agricultural land to fulfill the food need associated with population growth continues to be a significant cause of wetland loss in some parts of the globe.
Wetlands in Bangladesh encompass a wide verity of dynamic ecosystems ranging from mangrove forest (about 577, 100 ha), natural lakes, man-made reservoir (Kaptai lake), freshwater marshes (about 400 haors), oxbow lakes (about 54488 ha, locally known as baors), freshwater depressions (about 1,000 beels), fish ponds and tanks (about 147, 000 ha), estuaries and seasonal inundated extensive floodplains (Akonda, 1989; cited in Akbar Ali Khan 1993 and DoF 1985).
Dean Paron (of Minnesota Department of Natural Resources), presented at the Adapting Forested Watersheds to Climate Change Workshop, at The Waters, Minocqua, WI on March 15-16, 2017. The workshop was hosted by the Northern Institute of Applied Climate Science (NIACS), USDA Climate Hubs, and the Wisconsin Initiative on Climate Change Impacts (WICCI).

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
