had on our history. Matthew Calbraith Perry was born on April 10. 1794, in South Kingstown, Rhode Island. He was the son of an U.S. Navy

By 1852. the United States had been trading in the Orient for several years. President Millard Fillmore sent Perry to Japan to open diplomatic and
trade relations. He was resilient in his negotiations with Japan and would not take "no" for an answer. On July 2, 1853, Perry arrived in Tokyo
Bay. He threatened to bring the President's message by force if necessary. On July 14, steam frigates Susquehanna and Mississippi moved close to
the shore and landed 400 seamen and marines. Perry proceeded to the council house with special escort and pomp and presented his documents
personally to Princes Iduzu and Iwami and was given receipt of delivery. Perry left after three days he left and told them he would return for an
answer to the letter. Seven months later he returned to Japan with a larger and more powerful squadron. His return was faced with a totally different
reception. The Japanese people were more receptive and cordial. They exchange gifts and entertainment and the treaty was negotiated, opening to ports
to American commerce. After months of negotiations, the Treaty of Kanagawa was concluded on March 31, 1854. The treaty assured good treatment
of shipwrecked U.S. seamen, permitted U.S. ships to fuel and supply at two Japanese ports and arranged for a U.S. diplomat to reside in Japan to

William Buffalo Bill Cody Essay
William Buffalo Bill Cody
Buffalo Bill was one of the most interesting figures of the old west, and the best known spokesman of the new west. Buffalo Bill was born in 1846
and his real name was William Frederick Cody. Cody was many things. He was a trapper, bullwhacker, Colorado 'Fifty

Civil War soldier, wagonmaster, stagecoach driver, and even a manager of a hotel. He changed his name toBuffalo Bill sometime in his early twenties

Only Egypt's fame opposed the Wild West as the talk of Chicago at theWorld's Columbian Exposition in 1893. His show exhibited many famous
people, such as Annie Oakley and Sitting Bull. By the 1900's, Buffalo Bill could have possibly been the most famous and recognizable man in the
entire world.
The Wild West's great success began on nostalgia for the passing frontier that swept the nation in the late 1800's. However, Buffalo Bill never looked
backward. Towards the end of his life, a famous quote of his was 'All my interests are still with the west– the modern west';.
Cody used his glory and fame as a platform for his western causes. His western causes were fighting for the rights of Indians and women, and also for
conservation. Even as early as 1879, Buffalo Bill warned the federal government to not make promises to them that could be broken. He knew that
Indian conflicts would be caused by broken government promises. He also knew what the Indian was fighting for, because their entire history was in
America, and they felt it was their country.
Buffalo Bill was a fair man, as well. He was quoted in 1894 as saying to a woman reporter who asked whether he thought the majority of women
were qualified to vote that they were 'as well qualified as the majority of men. If a woman can do the same work that a man can do and do it just as
well, she should have the same pay';.
Very early on, Buffalo Bill realized that a

We landed in independence, MO. We took a little rest overnight and one of the Indians took our kid Hamilton Weaver. We have not found him yet
and I think that they are going to give up hope. He's been gone for 5 weeks and we are already at the Platte River.I can only imagine what he
looked like: blonde and brunette hair but mostly brunette about 3". I didn't know him that well because he usually just stayed in the wagon but
most people say that he was really nice and never complained, even when he had an empty stomachs It's very humid after a night at Fort Henry,

Later that night we found a Shoshone camp, it took awhile for everyone to warm up to each other. Their leader Black Dog was a very good leader
we made some exchanges with them because they gave us a lot of food they even let us eat supper with them. We all sat around the campfire telling

the most frequently visited hikes in Glacier National Park. This hike offers an outstanding opportunity to witness icebergs floating in a gorgeous
alpine lake and a thin ridge of rock separating two valleys that have been carved by glaciers. Although the Swiftcurrent Pass hike is recognized as one

The Soul Shell Shores
The soul shell shores were rumored to be where the lost souls went. Officially, the section of shoreline was called Kalivey Beach. It wasn't a
popular destination for anyone not searching for answers, so on the dreary day I arrived, the beach was empty save a few birds. Small and large
seashells covered the beach, piled in some places, as if to create cairns where stones were absent. Meandering footpaths had been cleared all the way
to the water, so no shells would be destroyed. You see, the shells here were special. Each one held thesoul of a person who wasn 't here anymore. If
you believed the stories that is. There were people devoted to preserving the beach, that it might be here for people who need it, but there were
also those who thought the seashells couldn't possibly be magic. Every time the tide changed and more shore was revealed, people came out to
the beach to stack the shells, a job from which they earned no profits and got no thanks. The tide came back in and knocked over their piles not
twelve hours later. I glanced to my right, away from the water, to see where the tide line was, only to realize something that should have been
obvious. I was on the boardwalk, which would have been constructed to never be underwater. It was high tide. How many shells were still
underwater? I had no idea if the tide was coming in or going out, so I just stopped on the boardwalk. "We made it Riley, what do you think?" I didn't
know why I bothered being so cheerful, or why

Descriptive Essay About Vacations
Our vacation started with what seemed like a week of packing when in reality it was only a day or two. We had been thinking of and planning our
trip to Yellowstone for quite a while. We were all excited for the trip to come. It started with a long drive through Nebraska stopping at night to set
up camp and get some sleep. We were all exhausted and slept like rocks. The next morning we made breakfast and got to driving again. As always,
we stopped at various parks and rest stops to get out and look around. That afternoon we were in dire need of showers and couldn't seem to find a
campsite that offered showers. We searched through what seemed like a thousand campgrounds. My mom and I had pretty much given up
looking at this point and were ready to resort to bucket baths. When we pulled into the campsite it turned out to be a rather pleasant campground.
There was plenty of privacy, flat ground, trees, and of course a shower. My mom and I also were pleasantly surprised to find that the showers were
also free. While there was still daylight. We got a fire going set up our tents and looked around a bit. When we were finally ready we all went and
bathed in the glorious creation of soap and hot running water cascading on our heads and bodies. The next day we got up, packed up our stuff, and
started on our way to our next destination. Rocky Mountain National Park. On our way there we stopped in a little town for lunch and ate about two
loaves of bread in sandwiches. As it started

A Story Of A Short Story
Last summer Lily and her family took a trip to Wyoming and South Dakota. They went to Yellowstone, Devils Tower, Black Hills and Mt. Rushmore.
At the end of the school year Lily's parents told all the kids that they will be going to South Dakota in a big RV in July. It was a couple months away,
but they were excited. A month later they found the RV they wanted.
" Why don't we go to Yellowstone to." said Lily's Dad. There plan was to leave got a week and be able to see everything they wanted to. They had
everything they needed and everything packed. Eventually they were all ready and about to leave. First they had to get past Iowa Lily thought it
was so boring. They got to Nebraska at like 7:30. Then they kept driving Lily fell asleep. Then Lily woke up at like 2am and it was all dark. They
stopped at a truck stop to sleep.
When Lily woke up they were in Wyoming. Lily went by the window and saw a bunch of mountains and it looked like a dessert. Then they had to
drive another 9 hours to get to Yellowstone. They didn't drive the whole day, they drove to an RV camp. It was on like a cliff so Lily could see all the
mountains.
"The mountains are so pretty." Lily said.
Out of all the camps they went to Lily liked that one the most. That next morning they drove to Jackson hole to go white water rafting. They took them
on a bus, to get to the river. When they got to the river, they had to put on life jackets then the took them on the raft. As they went on the raft Lily said,
" The water is so cold!!"
It was so much fun though. When they got back to Jackson they went back in the RVp–
and went to a new camp site. They were still 2 hours to Yellowstone. In the morning they went straight to Yellowstone. When they got to yellowstone
Lily just seen a bunch of trees. That day we stayed at the best yellowstone camp site. That next morning They went to see Old Faithful and all the
geysers. When they got there it spelt so bad. Also when they were in the parking lot Old faithful was going off but they wanted to see it up close so
they had to wait an hour. While they were waiting they seen the other little geysers all of them just sputterd. Then they were walking to Old faithful and

Westward Expansion In The West
The influence of the westward expansion in the West is still evident today. Influences such as land, and the individualist mindset remain the same today.
Also, a lot of ways the frontier land today is isolated compared to the West we live in today, too. The frontier emphasized the spirit of nationalism and
individualism in the United States.
As mentioned amongst the themes of the West, thefrontier experience converted settlers into individualists, who hoped to gain opportunity in the lands
of the West. The ample amount of resources and the greater social mobility of frontier areas instilled a form of individualism in American
frontiersman. This is similar to the individualism present today, for instance in politics and other government affairs, people dislike of governmental
interference in their affairs, similar to the people that had migrated to the West so they could be more independent and have less governmental
interference. Migrating somewhere new becomes an unfamiliar environment, as travelers adapted and devised new techniques and objects to cope
with an unknown land. This can also be seen now in Americans being able to adapt to innovations and keep innovations and ideas of the Western front.
In many rural areas, the concept of land and ranches, how to care for them, and the small settlement is still evident today, especially in the state we live
in.
Although the history of the American frontier is glorified for the vanquishing of Indian and the march of manifest destiny that made America great
and special, this is still evident today in society. For instance, in media today, the Dakota Pipelines were on Native American tribal land, yet we as
Americans used the power of authority to make them leave their land for the supposed greater benefit of America. That was the notion in the past, and
still is the notion today, Native Americans were not considered Americans, although the inhabited areas and lands way before we had. The
representation of the West showcased triumph of "civilization" over "savagery." Also, back in the 19th century, scholarly essays were written that
stated moving west separated Americans from their European roots, those who were from there. This is evident today as well,

letter of your last name. First, all students should summarize how the Electoral College functions. Second, each student will focus on a specific
argument regarding the Electoral College, based on the first letter of their last name. If your last name starts with A–K: Explain the positive impact of
the Electoral College and defend why the Electoral College should remain as it is currently. Be sure to include both the pros and the cons of keeping
the Electoral College as it is currently. The 50 states each have elected individuals that are composed of 538 total called the Electoral College.
According to American Government textbook, Article II states "Each State shall appoint, in such manner as the Legislature may direct, a number of
electors, equal to the whole number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress; but no Senator or
Representative...shall be appointed an elector" (Section 5.2, Presidential Election). The Electoral College is individuals from each candidate's party that

My Experience At The Teton Valley Ranch Camp Essay
When I was taking a photo of the purple sky and two stretching lakes across the Bonney Pass in the Teton Mountains; I knew this place that I loved
had transformed me into a better person and a more confident woman.
When I submitted the lengthy application to the Teton Valley Ranch Camp in Dubois,Wyoming my mind kept sinking back to the fear of flying away
to my comfortable close knit home to work at a ranch camp 2,610 miles away. My mom persisted that I should do something different with my
summer. After being a camper at the Teton Valley Ranch Camp, I thought it would be nice to contribute some of my time to the place that made me
outdoorsy and confident woman. However, I did not want to leave the summer before college started. I wanted to stay in the same routine with my
friends who lived on Nantucket Island. I did not want to meet new coworkers, far away from home was daunting. I enjoyed my circle of friends in
Nantucket because I was comfortable with my everyday routine. Visions ofanxiety swept over my mind; the fear crept over my mind with the years of
high school which constrained my personality. The boarding school years trapped me in like a prison with no welcoming smiles. I wanted to return
to my happy place in Nantucket with my friends. Despite my fears, I continued to think of the outcome of going to a new place far away, that could
be life changing. Life is not about being sheltered and always feeling comfortable, the bumpy rollercoaster is the best way to

Reasons To Choose The Electoral College
The Electoral College is a body of electors who are selected by a larger group of people. The smaller group, the electors, represent the votes for the
larger group, or a state. Each state gets a certain amount of electoral votes based on the population of the state. A candidate gets all the electoral votes
for the state if they win the majority of the popular votes for that state. There are many reasons why the United States uses an Electoral College instead
of a popular election and how to determine the majority.
The Constitution explains the Electoral College in Article II, Section I ("U. S. Electoral College, Official – What Is the Electoral College?"). The
founding fathers established the Electoral College instead of a popular election for President because they were afraid of democracy. They thought one
highly populated area would control the election (Miller). They worried that the citizens would make an unfit decision, so they wanted to build a
foolproof system where citizens chose people to represent their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Members of the House and Senate meet in the House chamber to conduct the official tally of electoral votes, done by the Vice–President ("Justice
Network – 2016 Election Rules."). The popular vote simply means a total of all votes from all states in America. All the electoral votes for a state go
to the candidate who gets the majority of the popular for that one state ("Electoral Vote vs Popular Vote.").
As confusing as the Electoral College may seem it is not very hard to understand after reading just a little about it. This system was created so the
small states get a more equal amount of votes and one big state cannot control all the votes. They also tried to make it easy for the electors having
them only need to meet once a year. The founding fathers believed this would be the fairest possible

Sherman Alexie's Evolution
Buffalo Bill is one of three central images depicted in Alexie's "Evolution". In analyzing this character, Alexie's use of situational irony and sarcasm
expresses the systematic exploitation of the of Native American people by the American government. As it stands, Alexie's crafts the image of Buffalo
Bill as a cunningly, greedy, unscrupulous, and opportunistic business owner which is in direct conflict to the historical figure, known as Buffalo Bill,
who actually hunted and exterminated many Native Americans because he considered them to be uncivilized savages; a popular sentiment expressed
by many contemporaries of the day. However, Alexie's presented imagery of Buffalo Bill is more palatable to the American psyche while at the same
time serving as an ironic confirmation for Native American people. Moreover, Alexie's Buffalo Bill's character is still in alignment with the... Show

In Alexie's portrayal of the Indians, he utilizes descriptive imagery that portrays the Indians as unwitting, desperate customers who willingly sold all
of their earthly possessions, to an opportunistic business owner, Buffalo Bill, in exchange for money and liquor. To drive his point across, Alexie,
notes the Indians extreme decision to ultimately sell their body parts which symbolizes a personal sacrifice of one's health, or life. In like manner,
Alexie notes the business owner demand for the heart of the Indians which has severe implications that can be taken literally or metaphorically as it
relates to the core of the Native American identity. Overall, although it seems that Alexie's descriptive imagery in the portrayal of the Indians
exemplifies extreme absurdity and exaggeration, Alexie's imagery of the Indian is, in fact, very much so in alignment with the historical degradation of
the Native American people which supports and conveys the theme of his

The Yellowstone Wolf Controversy Essay
One of the biggest reasons for the reintroduction of wolves back into Yellowstone was that they had originally roamed from Yellowstone all the way
down to Mexico. While a lot of people were in favor of the reintroduction of the wolves, there were many who were against it. The main people who
were against the reintroduction of the wolves back into the park were the ranchers who made a living in the areas surrounding the park.
During 70 years of absence from the Rockies, the Grey Wolf had been protected under the Endangered Species Act that was passed in 1973. Since
the wolf is under the protection of Endangered Species Act a person could be punished with up to a $100,000 fine and up to 1 year in jail for killing a

With this plan they decided on three areas in which to reintroduce wolves; Northwest Montana, the Yellowstone Ecosystem, and Central Idaho. In
1987 they released another plan that was more detailed than the first few. The recovery goal for the Grey Wolf was ten breeding pairs per area,
which meant ten packs of ten wolves, or 100 total. With the release of the 1987 plan, a lot of opposition was raised.
For the first time in 70 years, the howl of the Grey Wolf is being heard throughout Yellowstone Park (Sanders, 2000). In January of 1995, 14 wolves
from separate packs in Canada were trapped and transported to Yellowstone. Once in the park the wolves were placed in one acre acclimation pens.
In total there were three pens scattered across the northern portion of Yellowstone: one a Crystal Creek, another at Rose Creek, and the last at Soda
Butte. During the wolves time spent in these pens they were fed winter kill, or road kill. The packs that were formed in these pens were released in
the winters of 1995–1996 and also again in 1996–1997 for a second release period (Sanders, 2000). In 1995 fourteen wolves were released and in 1996
seventeen were released. In 1997 there were 64 pups born and since 1995, 33 wolves have died in the Yellowstone area.

Impacts of Wyoming’s Agriculture on Economy
Wyoming's economy includes four main aspects: agriculture, manufacturing, mining, and service. Among them, agriculture takes an important place in
Wyoming's economy. It contributes numerous billions to economy every year. There is a general evaluation of Wyoming's agriculture from a website.
"Historically, agriculture has been an important component of Wyoming's economic identity. Its overall importance to the performance of Wyoming's
economy has waned. However, it is still an essential part of Wyoming's culture and lifestyle." (www. Wyoming.gov/narrative.aspx) It shows the
importance in Wyoming's culture and lifestyle. What it does not mention are the economic impacts. They cannot be ignored, either.
This information illustrates the status quo of Wyoming's agriculture. "Historically, agriculture has been important to Wyoming's cultural identity and
the quality of life of its citizens... There currently 9,200 agricultural producers operating in Wyoming. Overall Wyoming agricultural production in 2001
amounted to $1.057 billion and of that sum; gross value added to the economy was $471.2 million."(Bittner, 2) "Agriculture contributes $800 million
annually to Wyoming's economy, approximately 80% of which is cattle production." (www.ourchildrenstrust.org/page/323/Wyoming

the previous figures, we can see that agriculture occupies an important position in Wyoming's economy. It increases economic growth and gross

Summary Of The Naked Citadel
Confirmation bias is the phenomenon of choosing to accept information that appeals to one's beliefs. It blinds oneself from another's perspective. It is
a cycle that reflects people's lack of open–mindedness. Most Democrats grow up in liberal environments while most Republicans grow up in
conservative environments. These environments affect their political stances, as well as other beliefs and ideals they have. They then share their

perspective. In "The Naked Citadel," the admission of a female named Shannon Faulkner into The Citadel, an all–male military college, followed by the
immediate retraction of the admission lead Susan Faludi to investigate the college. After observing the mannerisms of the cadets in the college, Faludi
exposes their cruel and sexist ideals in an effort to push her readers to have similar impressions of The Citadel, a sexist college known for its intense

Contested Plains by Elliot West
There are many ways in which we can view the history of the American West. One view is the popular story of Cowboys and Indians. It is a grand
story filled with adventure, excitement and gold. Another perspective is one of the Native Plains Indians and the rich histories that spanned thousands
of years before white discovery and settlement. Elliot West's book, Contested Plains: Indians, Goldseekers and the Rush to Colorado, offers a view into
both of these worlds. West shows how the histories of both nations intertwine, relate and clash all while dealing with complex geological and
environmental challenges. West argues that an understanding of the settling of the Great Plains must come from a deeper understanding, a more

Drastic changes occur in the flora due to weather and subsequently lead to the disappearance of many animal species and with these changes, the
people adapted. For thousands of years the plains would evolve, change and create a, "history of movement and adjustment, crisis and resolution" . One
extreme change for the Indians was the arrival of Anglo–Europeans. Native peoples' lives were changed at the blink of an eye while new ideas,
practices and beliefs were shown to them. The arrival of the Europeans changed the way the Indians viewed their world and manipulated their
resources. This new change could be viewed as positive as well as negative, for while some tribes entered into trade relations with the Anglos,
others were used as slave labor and all were subject to disease brought on by the European newcomers. However, despite all the advantages and
disadvantages, no other introduction changed the lives of the Indians more than firearms and horses. West outlines one of the most important
evolutions for Native life and how it represented a new way to harness resources and gain power. In just a few chapters, we are able to see the great
advancements the Indians made in hunting and trade due to these new technologies and how they allowed the Cheyennes to rise to a new purpose as
the Called Out People. Part Two follows the Gold Rush and shows how energy and power shaped the

Critical Analysis Of My Antonia By Willa Cather
From the birth of the United States, freedom has been the goal. Freedom inspired a large amount of people to come to American to start a new life.
With an influx of people and the desire for personal space, America expanded under the jurisdiction of Manifest Destiny. American's of that time began
to move west of the Mississippi river into untamed, and isolated areas. There are many accounts of these migrations and stories of the untamed
wilderness, but one of the classics is My Antonia by Willa Cather. Cather, an American migrant to the west herself, relates many of the experiences in
her novel to the stories of her childhood. In a critical analysis of the work of Willa Cather written by James Woodress, published in Detroit, Michigan

It has been no wonder why suicide was at it's highest peak during the peak of pioneer expansion. Pioneers were trapped in a place they hardly
knew, performing tasks they never had before, and trying to survive without social interaction. Some of the people who had it worst at that time
were the immigrants because they could not speak English or comprehend some of the differences between America and their homeland. Living
on the prairie was a constant struggle with not only the physical aspects, but also the mind. People like Mr. Shimerda in My Antonia were prime
examples of the suicide caused by the unhappiness with the choices they had made to move to the new land. In book one of My Antonia Mr.
Shimerda was described as a jovial man who always played his fiddle for all to hear and who loved to sing, dance, and converse. As the first few
chapters wear on, Mr. Shimerda's personality begun to fade. He was grouchy and blunt when he used to be happy. He was not happy with himself,
which drove him to suicide. This action was inspired by one of Willa Cather's friends in Nebraska named Annie who emigrated to the U.S. from
Poland. In a critical analysis of My Antonia by Willa Cather, John J. Murphy takes a look into her inspirations. His article titled "Raw Materials"
was published in Boston, Massachusetts in 1989 by Twayne Publishing Co. About My Antonia, he said, "Annie obviously admired him, was often
his companion, and describes him as 'a man in a million who never swore or used dirty words like other men nor ever drank or play cards he was a
clean man in everyway.' Then on 15 February 1881 he took his shotgun and said he was going rabbit hunting but failed to return by late afternoon.
They found him shot in the head and half sitting behind the board bed in the shack. The body was cold, nearly frozen; the sheriff called it

Buffalo Bill Essay
Buffalo Bill
William Frederick Cody, also known as Buffalo Bill, was born into an anti–slavery family. He had a rough childhood, but despite this hardship he grew
up to be an adventurous wild west showman, and achieve many historical goals. On February 26, 1846, near the small town of LeClair, Iowa, William F.
Cody was born to Isacc and Marry Ann Cody. At the time William had two sisters,
Martha and Julia, and a brother, Samuel. But he ended up with three more sisters,
Eliza, Helen, and May, and another brother, Charlie. In the first eight years of his childhood, William grew up on a farm his father owned and worked.
During this time, William had plenty of space on the Plains ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After this failed, Bill contracted with the Kansas Pacific Railroad, in
1867–1868, to furnish buffalo meat to the workers on the line. This earned him his nickname, Buffalo Bill.
In 1868–1872, Buffalo Bill served again as an army scout when he was elected to the Nebraska legislature. In 1872, after carrying dispatches through
hostile Indian country for Gen. Philip H. Sheridan, he became chief of scouts for the 5th U.S. Cavalry for four years until 1876. During this eight year
period, Buffalo Bill took place in sixteen Indian fights, including the defeat of the Cheyenne at Summit Springs, Colorado (1869), and at Hat Creek,
Wyoming in
1876, he was famed for his "Killing of Yellow Hand". Also during this time, in
1869, Ned Buntline (E. Z. C. Judson) made Buffalo Bill the hero of a dime novel that was later dramatized, and in 1872 he persuaded Cody to appear
on stage.
Cody broke with Buntline after a year, but remained an actor for eleven seasons.
Cody made his first and most authentic autobiography in 1879. He was also the author of dime novels, as well as the hero of some 1,700 of these
publications, most of them written by Prentiss Ingraham.
In 1883, Buffalo Bill was so inspired by the success at a July 4th celebration at North Platte, Nebraska, that he organized Buffalo Bill's

Personal Narrative Essay: Natrona County's Greatest Mistakes
It was the late in the fourth quarter and the Broncs were about to win another state championship making it two years in a row. There was 20 seconds
on the clock and the Broncs were up 49–28 on the Natrona County Mustangs. All we needed to do was take a knee, and sheridan would take home
their 25th football state title. The ball was snapped and instead of taking a knee, they ran it with running back Kyle Kustis for another bronc touchdown
to make the win 56–28. The block that opened up the hole was offensive tackle and my brother, Blayne Baker. After that night we all went home to
celebrate the state championship. The next morning I could barely talk. My throat was throbbing from cheering so loud. "Do you want some

He must have liked the way blayne answered the question. News spread about town like a wildfire. Everyone was asking me, "So is blayne going to

blayne and offered him a scholarship. The night after blayne got a second scholarship, I went over to my friend Carl's house. There were a bunch
of people there asking me about blayne. There was one kid two grades older than me that doesn't like me very much said something that stayed
with me for a long time. "Guys you know what's sad? Bridger is going to have so much to live up to." From then on that has been my biggest fear,
that I won't be as good as my brother. Weeks passed and then the University of Montana called him up and offered him another scholarship. This
started to eat away at me like a termite. I couldn't stop thinking about how I could be the baker that didn't live up to what his brothers did. This
continued until one day I decided to go over to my friend Cinches house and hang out with a group of friends. Cinches dad, Jay, and I were sitting in

The Pros And Cons Of Wolves
In May, 2016, 20 calves were killed and not eaten in four days in the area of the Absaroka Mountains, outside of Pinedale Wyoming. (Urbigkit ,2016)
However, it doesn't stop there, every day livestock and wildlife are killed and rarely eaten by wolves in almost every western state. This is a problem
that needs to be addressed before ranchers lose their herds, and before the wild herds are depleted beyond restoration. If the wolf situation was bad a
couple years ago, well now it's worse, even some of the "protectors of wildlife" are starting to come to their senses. Livestock is the most expensive
prey that wolves can get to, and the problem is that they get to them very easy and can escape because they have no reason to come back to the kill. ...

Wolves need to be managed and if they are not addressed they will continue to roam free of charge and deplete the livestock herds. Even beyond that
our generation of families won't feel safe letting our grandchildren run around. The wolves have mass killed 19 elk in one night, slaughtered countless
numbers of livestock and in places threatened people. "In the rural town of Reserve, New Mexico kids wait for the bus in wooden and metal cages,
meant to protect the kids from wolf attacks." (Toft, 2016). You may think is this is unnecessary, until you see and hear about the wolves growling and
snarling at the frightened children. If this doesn't change your opinions on wolves maybe you should sit in the cage and live in the wild with them. It's
a sad time when the most important thing you walk out of the house with is not your coat or anything it's your weapon, so you can defend your family,
home, and livelihood. As communities and stewards of the land our duty is to protect as well as manage, we as hunters are managing, however the
wolves are not being managed correctly, and are getting away with the minor scolding of words that they cannot comprehend from the government. I'm
not saying eradicate them but certainly allow the ranchers and such to shoot wolves, and for the government to take charge and trap, shoot, and dart

Essay about Our Trip to Wyoming was Beautiful
Wyoming is a beautiful place We never drove farther west than Iowa. Going to Wyoming was something my brothers and I were looking forward

day, but I knew we had to wait a couple a weeks. Waiting was the worst part of the trip. I could not focus on anything besides getting ready for the
trip. As those long weeks came by we finally were packed to go. It was 4 a.m. and my parents were packing the car and telling us to bring
everything out. We decided to take the minivan, so there was plenty of space. My older brother always got the back seats to himself so he had his

not want to waste 2 hours so we went up the mountain nice and slow. Since the mountain was so steep it burned our tires. When we reached
Yellowstone we made my dad pull over and we stopped at Yellowstone Lake. I remember my dad telling us that the ice just melted from the
mountain so it was cold. We did not care we went in anyway, he was right. It was freezing cold so as we came out and our dad was smiling, he bet
us we could not reach to the middle of the lake. We decided to try and make a raft to get us to the middle and to paddle with are hands there and
back. As we tried to make a raft out of the huge logs we found near by we could not find anything to tie them together so we just decided to hold on
to all of them. As you can only imagine, it failed and we went into the water. We gave up after a half hour and got back in to the car. It was so
beautiful going up the side of the mountain. I remember going up and seeing a mama wolf, she had two little cubs playing by the logs. We stayed

The Effects of Wyoming's Aging Population
With new medical technology and improved knowledge about health and wellness, American's life expectancy is longer than ever, with a better
expected quality of life as well. Wyoming is the fastest aging state in the country according to the Billing's Gazette. In addition to an already aging
state, Wyoming has been named by national publications as a top place ofretirement due to its tax structure and climate. In an article from the
Wyoming Tribune–Eagle, it is predicted that by the year 2020 Wyoming will have the highest percentage of residents over the age of 65. With the

Medicare is a government program and unlike private insurance companies, it must pay the costs of any beneficial medical care. From an example in
USA Today, they point out that the type of defibrillator put in Vice PresidentDick Cheney is expected to become standard care for cardiac patients.
The instillation of the defibrillator, which regulates the heart's electrical rhythms, currently cost about $30,000. This is expected to cost Medicare $14
billion by 2015, if only half of those suffering from heart failure received this treatment. This is a major national concern, but due to Wyoming's
rapidly aging population, Medicare will also become a major cost to the state.
Economically, Wyoming is not very diverse. The state's economy is unable to absorb a range of young or old workers. Natural resources and mining
have been the fastest growing jobs in the state, with an increase of 15.5% according to the Casper Star–Tribune. These jobs require hard physical labor
and are unable to provide significant work to an aging population. According to AARP economist Clare Hushbeck, people are choosing to work past
the customary retirement age of 65. This is due in part to increased knowledge based jobs instead of hard labor. If Wyoming is able to follow this
national shift toward knowledge based work, the aging residents and influx of retirees could possibly benefit the state's economy.
Wyoming lacks a younger population

The Negative Speech : The Importance Of The Electoral College
Nothing is set in stone anymore. Much of this can be used to describe our government. Are we truly a representative democracy? Are the voices of
the people of this nation being heard, or dismissed? One thing we as the people of the US believe we have a say in is the election process. Now,
perhaps even our say in that, is compromised. The electoral college has taken away our right to have a say in the actions of our government. From faulty
representatives, to inequality in vote value, to contradictory results, abolishing the electoral college will work for the betterment of our say in the
election process. We elect a group of representatives to cast the popular vote among the group of people he or she represents. The problem with this...

By dividing the population by electoral votes, we can see that Wyoming has one "elector" for every 177,556 people and Texas has one "elector" for
about every 715,499" (Huffington Post). The Electoral College justifies this by saying that this gives the smaller states a chance to make their
impact on the election. How can that logic be used if you don't give the people an equal chance, they deserve, in having a say? Without any consent,
your vote value is increased or decreased based on where you live. Would you like for your vote value to be less than someone, let's say, in Montana? In
a true democracy, people have a say. A democracy is not one where certain opinions are cherry
–picked to have a greater impact than another. Finally, an
effective leader is one that the followers trust. The more controversial side to the electoral college are the results it gives. All political opinions and
biases aside, don't we want the leader of the country to be one majority wanted? Due to the faulty system of the Electoral College, the results it yields
may not be one that majority agree with. There are many instances where we see this rollout, "We saw this happen on a smaller scale in the 2000

Why didn't you put on some sunscreen? What were you thinking? These are some of the questions that arose on a long summer road trip. During

that the trip down to Albany took forever, but a couple of fifteen plus hour drives going out west made going to Albany seem like it was just down

Buffalo Bill Wild West Summary
The westward expansion of American citizens was a progressive action that helped the nation to move forward during the mid–eighteen hundreds. The
land that was being claimed came to be known as the frontier and few people settled there due to the perceived threat of Indians and what they
thought was a lack of economic opportunity. This land was taken over by farmers and herders that controlled buffalo and used the fertile soil to make
a living. The story of "Buffalo Bill's Wild West: Celebrity, Memory, and Popular History" shows how a man can start with nothing and grow to be a
publicly recognized figure. The author of this story, Joy S. Kasson, recounts Buffalo Bill's life and the decisions he made along the way along with
how the actions he took affected the events around him. This story, that takes a biographic approach, tells of Buffalo Bill's influence in society as a
showman and in the perceived image of the wild west during this time.
What were the author's main claims and how did she defend them? The author claims that William Cody, also known as Buffalo Bill, found success
through luck and that his success was very fortunate and highly unlikely. In the biography the author writes, "In the process of becoming an
international celebrity, Cody both followed and diverged from familiar pathways in the search for success and respectability that led many others to
debt, obscurity, and failure" (page 12). Cody's experiences and decisions would not seem to lead to such

President Millard Fillmore sent Perry to Japan to open diplomatic and trade relations. He was resilient in his negotiations with Japan and would not take "no" for an answer. On July 2, 1853, Perry arrived in Tokyo Bay. He threatened to bring the President's message by force if necessary. On July 14, steam frigates Susquehanna and Mississippi moved close to the shore and landed 400 seamen and marines. Perry proceeded to the council house with special escort and pomp and presented his documents personally to Princes Iduzu and Iwami and was given receipt of delivery. Perry left after three days he left and told them he would return for an answer to the letter. Seven months later he returned to Japan with a larger and more powerful squadron. His return was faced with a totally different reception. The Japanese people were more receptive and cordial. They exchange gifts and entertainment and the treaty was negotiated, opening to ports to American commerce. After months of negotiations, the Treaty of Kanagawa was concluded on March 31, 1854. The treaty assured good treatment of shipwrecked U.S. seamen, permitted U.S. ships to fuel and supply at two Japanese ports and arranged for a U.S. diplomat to reside in Japan to further trade ... His show exhibited many famous people, such as Annie Oakley and Sitting Bull. By the 1900's, Buffalo Bill could have possibly been the most famous and recognizable man in the entire world. The Wild West's great success began on nostalgia for the passing frontier that swept the nation in the late 1800's. However, Buffalo Bill never looked backward. Towards the end of his life, a famous quote of his was 'All my interests are still with the west– the modern west';. Cody used his glory and fame as a platform for his western causes. His western causes were fighting for the rights of Indians and women, and also for conservation. Even as early as 1879, Buffalo Bill warned the federal government to not make promises to them that could be broken. He knew that Indian conflicts would be caused by broken government promises. He also knew what the Indian was fighting for, because their entire history was in America, and they felt it was their country. Buffalo Bill was a fair man, as well. He was quoted in 1894 as saying to a woman reporter who asked whether he thought the majority of women were qualified to vote that they were 'as well qualified as the majority of men. If a woman can do the same work that a man can do and do it just as well, she should have the same pay';. Very early on, Buffalo Bill realized that a

We have not found him yet and I think that they are going to give up hope. He's been gone for 5 weeks and we are already at the Platte River.I can only imagine what he looked like: blonde and brunette hair but mostly brunette about 3". I cauked my wagon and lost one day of food supplies that we couldn't afford to lose. The leader said that it's okay and we will try to get some food from Shoshone indians considering that they are very nice. Later that night we found a Shoshone camp, it took awhile for everyone to warm up to each other. Their leader Black Dog was a very good leader we made some exchanges with them because they gave us a lot of food they even let us eat supper with them. • 6. The Soul Shell Shores The soul shell shores were rumored to be where the lost souls went. Officially, the section of shoreline was called Kalivey Beach. It wasn't a popular destination for anyone not searching for answers, so on the dreary day I arrived, the beach was empty save a few birds. Small and large seashells covered the beach, piled in some places, as if to create cairns where stones were absent. Meandering footpaths had been cleared all the way to the water, so no shells would be destroyed. You see, the shells here were special. Each one held thesoul of a person who wasn 't here anymore. If you believed the stories that is. There were people devoted to preserving the beach, that it might be here for people who need it, but there were also those who thought the seashells couldn't possibly be magic. Every time the tide changed and more shore was revealed, people came out to the beach to stack the shells, a job from which they earned no profits and got no thanks. The tide came back in and knocked over their piles not twelve hours later. I glanced to my right, away from the water, to see where the tide line was, only to realize something that should have been obvious. I was on the boardwalk, which would have been constructed to never be underwater. It was high tide. How many shells were still underwater? I had no idea if the tide was coming in or going out, so I just stopped on the boardwalk. "We made it Riley, what do you think?" I didn't know why I bothered being so cheerful, or why ... • 8. Descriptive Essay About Vacations Our vacation started with what seemed like a week of packing when in reality it was only a day or two. We had been thinking of and planning our trip to Yellowstone for quite a while. We were all excited for the trip to come. It started with a long drive through Nebraska stopping at night to set up camp and get some sleep. We were all exhausted and slept like rocks. The next morning we made breakfast and got to driving again. As always, we stopped at various parks and rest stops to get out and look around. That afternoon we were in dire need of showers and couldn't seem to find a campsite that offered showers. We searched through what seemed like a thousand campgrounds. My mom and I had pretty much given up looking at this point and were ready to resort to bucket baths. When we pulled into the campsite it turned out to be a rather pleasant campground. There was plenty of privacy, flat ground, trees, and of course a shower. My mom and I also were pleasantly surprised to find that the showers were also free. While there was still daylight. We got a fire going set up our tents and looked around a bit. When we were finally ready we all went and bathed in the glorious creation of soap and hot running water cascading on our heads and bodies. The next day we got up, packed up our stuff, and started on our way to our next destination. Rocky Mountain National Park. On our way there we stopped in a little town for lunch and ate about two loaves of bread in sandwiches. As it started ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. A Story Of A Short Story Last summer Lily and her family took a trip to Wyoming and South Dakota. They went to Yellowstone, Devils Tower, Black Hills and Mt. Rushmore. At the end of the school year Lily's parents told all the kids that they will be going to South Dakota in a big RV in July. It was a couple months away, but they were excited. A month later they found the RV they wanted. " Why don't we go to Yellowstone to." said Lily's Dad. There plan was to leave got a week and be able to see everything they wanted to. They had everything they needed and everything packed. Eventually they were all ready and about to leave. First they had to get past Iowa Lily thought it was so boring. They got to Nebraska at like 7:30. Then they kept driving Lily fell asleep. Then Lily woke up at like 2am and it was all dark. They stopped at a truck stop to sleep. When Lily woke up they were in Wyoming. Lily went by the window and saw a bunch of mountains and it looked like a dessert. Then they had to drive another 9 hours to get to Yellowstone. They didn't drive the whole day, they drove to an RV camp. It was on like a cliff so Lily could see all the mountains. "The mountains are so pretty." Lily said. Out of all the camps they went to Lily liked that one the most. That next morning they drove to Jackson hole to go white water rafting. They took them on a bus, to get to the river. When they got to the river, they had to put on life jackets then the took them on the raft. As they went on the raft Lily said, " The water is so cold!!" It was so much fun though. When they got back to Jackson they went back in the RVp– and went to a new camp site. They were still 2 hours to Yellowstone. In the morning they went straight to Yellowstone. When they got to yellowstone Lily just seen a bunch of trees. That day we stayed at the best yellowstone camp site. That next morning They went to see Old Faithful and all the geysers. • 10. Westward Expansion In The West The influence of the westward expansion in the West is still evident today. Influences such as land, and the individualist mindset remain the same today. Also, a lot of ways the frontier land today is isolated compared to the West we live in today, too. The frontier emphasized the spirit of nationalism and individualism in the United States. As mentioned amongst the themes of the West, thefrontier experience converted settlers into individualists, who hoped to gain opportunity in the lands of the West. The ample amount of resources and the greater social mobility of frontier areas instilled a form of individualism in American frontiersman. This is similar to the individualism present today, for instance in politics and other government affairs, people dislike of governmental interference in their affairs, similar to the people that had migrated to the West so they could be more independent and have less governmental interference. Migrating somewhere new becomes an unfamiliar environment, as travelers adapted and devised new techniques and objects to cope with an unknown land. This can also be seen now in Americans being able to adapt to innovations and keep innovations and ideas of the Western front. In many rural areas, the concept of land and ranches, how to care for them, and the small settlement is still evident today, especially in the state we live in. Although the history of the American frontier is glorified for the vanquishing of Indian and the march of manifest destiny that made America great and special, this is still evident today in society. For instance, in media today, the Dakota Pipelines were on Native American tribal land, yet we as Americans used the power of authority to make them leave their land for the supposed greater benefit of America. That was the notion in the past, and still is the notion today, Native Americans were not considered Americans, although the inhabited areas and lands way before we had. The representation of the West showcased triumph of "civilization" over "savagery." Also, back in the 19th century, scholarly essays were written that stated moving west separated Americans from their European roots, those who were from there. This is evident today as well, ... When I submitted the lengthy application to the Teton Valley Ranch Camp in Dubois,Wyoming my mind kept sinking back to the fear of flying away to my comfortable close knit home to work at a ranch camp 2,610 miles away. • 14. Reasons To Choose The Electoral College The Electoral College is a body of electors who are selected by a larger group of people. The smaller group, the electors, represent the votes for the larger group, or a state. Each state gets a certain amount of electoral votes based on the population of the state. A candidate gets all the electoral votes for the state if they win the majority of the popular votes for that state. There are many reasons why the United States uses an Electoral College instead of a popular election and how to determine the majority. The Constitution explains the Electoral College in Article II, Section I ("U. S. Electoral College, Official – What Is the Electoral College?"). The founding fathers established the Electoral College instead of a popular election for President because they were afraid of democracy. They thought one highly populated area would control the election (Miller). In analyzing this character, Alexie's use of situational irony and sarcasm expresses the systematic exploitation of the of Native American people by the American government. As it stands, Alexie's crafts the image of Buffalo Bill as a cunningly, greedy, unscrupulous, and opportunistic business owner which is in direct conflict to the historical figure, known as Buffalo Bill, who actually hunted and exterminated many Native Americans because he considered them to be uncivilized savages; a popular sentiment expressed by many contemporaries of the day. While a lot of people were in favor of the reintroduction of the wolves, there were many who were against it. The main people who were against the reintroduction of the wolves back into the park were the ranchers who made a living in the areas surrounding the park. During 70 years of absence from the Rockies, the Grey Wolf had been protected under the Endangered Species Act that was passed in 1973. With the release of the 1987 plan, a lot of opposition was raised. For the first time in 70 years, the howl of the Grey Wolf is being heard throughout Yellowstone Park (Sanders, 2000). In January of 1995, 14 wolves from separate packs in Canada were trapped and transported to Yellowstone. Once in the park the wolves were placed in one acre acclimation pens. In total there were three pens scattered across the northern portion of Yellowstone: one a Crystal Creek, another at Rose Creek, and the last at Soda Butte. During the wolves time spent in these pens they were fed winter kill, or road kill. The packs that were formed in these pens were released in the winters of 1995–1996 and also again in 1996–1997 for a second release period (Sanders, 2000). In 1995 fourteen wolves were released and in 1996 seventeen were released. In 1997 there were 64 pups born and since 1995, 33 wolves have died in the Yellowstone area. It is a cycle that reflects people's lack of open–mindedness. Most Democrats grow up in liberal environments while most Republicans grow up in conservative environments. These environments affect their political stances, as well as other beliefs and ideals they have. They then share their beliefs and ideals to those around them and future generations. These beliefs and ideals we acquire blind us from seeing and understanding another's perspective. Living on the prairie was a constant struggle with not only the physical aspects, but also the mind. People like Mr. Shimerda in My Antonia were prime examples of the suicide caused by the unhappiness with the choices they had made to move to the new land. In book one of My Antonia Mr. Shimerda was described as a jovial man who always played his fiddle for all to hear and who loved to sing, dance, and converse. As the first few chapters wear on, Mr. Shimerda's personality begun to fade. He was grouchy and blunt when he used to be happy. He was not happy with himself, which drove him to suicide. As you can only imagine, it failed and we went into the water. We gave up after a half hour and got back in to the car. It was so beautiful going up the side of the mountain. I remember going up and seeing a mama wolf, she had two little cubs playing by the logs. We stayed in Yellowstone that night. We got up early the next morning and saw old faithful waiting for it to irrupt. Saw other geysers and some colorful ones. We went back to the cabin and as we were eating diner we saw a pack of wolves run by. That night all we heard the wolves so close but then it disappeared in the middle of the night. As ... • 28. The Effects of Wyoming’s Aging Population Essay examples The Effects of Wyoming's Aging Population With new medical technology and improved knowledge about health and wellness, American's life expectancy is longer than ever, with a better expected quality of life as well. Wyoming is the fastest aging state in the country according to the Billing's Gazette. In addition to an already aging state, Wyoming has been named by national publications as a top place ofretirement due to its tax structure and climate. In an article from the Wyoming Tribune–Eagle, it is predicted that by the year 2020 Wyoming will have the highest percentage of residents over the age of 65. With the rapidly rising elderly population, Wyoming faces many challenges and difficulties in its future.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Medicare is a government program and unlike private insurance companies, it must pay the costs of any beneficial medical care. From an example in USA Today, they point out that the type of defibrillator put in Vice PresidentDick Cheney is expected to become standard care for cardiac patients. The instillation of the defibrillator, which regulates the heart's electrical rhythms, currently cost about $30,000. This is expected to cost Medicare $14 billion by 2015, if only half of those suffering from heart failure received this treatment. This is a major national concern, but due to Wyoming's rapidly aging population, Medicare will also become a major cost to the state. Economically, Wyoming is not very diverse. The state's economy is unable to absorb a range of young or old workers. Natural resources and mining have been the fastest growing jobs in the state, with an increase of 15.5% according to the Casper Star–Tribune. These jobs require hard physical labor and are unable to provide significant work to an aging population. According to AARP economist Clare Hushbeck, people are choosing to work past the customary retirement age of 65. This is due in part to increased knowledge based jobs instead of hard labor. If Wyoming is able to follow this national shift toward knowledge based work, the aging residents and influx of retirees could possibly benefit the state's economy. Wyoming lacks a younger population ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Creative Writing: Sheridan High School Reunion I wake up to my dog licking my face and my wife frantically trying to make coffee before we have to go to work. Nothing unusual. As I start to wind down my morning routine, I decide to check the mail. I don't usually check the mail everyday, I should, but I don't. I see a funny looking letter with some shoddy gold ribbon on it–maybe a late holiday card from a distant relative? I don't think much, I don't even look at the postage stamp, I just start to tear through the envelope like I would for any other piece of mail. What I find is interesting, however. I thought it was a joke at first, but no, the card really said "Sheridan High School Reunion!". Had it really been 25 years? • 30. The Negative Speech : The Importance Of The Electoral College Nothing is set in stone anymore. Much of this can be used to describe our government. Are we truly a representative democracy? Are the voices of the people of this nation being heard, or dismissed? One thing we as the people of the US believe we have a say in is the election process. Now, perhaps even our say in that, is compromised. The electoral college has taken away our right to have a say in the actions of our government. From faulty representatives, to inequality in vote value, to contradictory results, abolishing the electoral college will work for the betterment of our say in the election process. We elect a group of representatives to cast the popular vote among the group of people he or she represents. The problem with this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By dividing the population by electoral votes, we can see that Wyoming has one "elector" for every 177,556 people and Texas has one "elector" for about every 715,499" (Huffington Post). The Electoral College justifies this by saying that this gives the smaller states a chance to make their impact on the election. How can that logic be used if you don't give the people an equal chance, they deserve, in having a say? Without any consent, your vote value is increased or decreased based on where you live. Would you like for your vote value to be less than someone, let's say, in Montana? In a true democracy, people have a say. A democracy is not one where certain opinions are cherry –picked to have a greater impact than another. Finally, an effective leader is one that the followers trust. The more controversial side to the electoral college are the results it gives. All political opinions and biases aside, don't we want the leader of the country to be one majority wanted? Due to the faulty system of the Electoral College, the results it yields may not be one that majority agree with. There are many instances where we see this rollout, "We saw this happen on a smaller scale in the 2000 election. Al Gore won 48.4% of the popular vote, trumping the 47.9% that George W. ... • 32. Road Trip Research Paper Why didn't you put on some sunscreen? What were you thinking? These are some of the questions that arose on a long summer road trip. During the summer of 2016, my family and I went on a three week road trip starting in Chestertown, NY, and going as far west as Yellowstone National Park. The first stop on the trip was Niagara Falls. We went at night, and the water was lit up in various colors, it was pretty cool. These days heading out west were mainly long days in the truck followed up with even more long days in the truck. Before we went to on the trip, I thought that the trip down to Albany took forever, but a couple of fifteen plus hour drives going out west made going to Albany seem like it was just down the road. After two, maybe three days we were driving through Chicago at 3 in the morning (that's the time of night I saw several major cities along this trip) I thought it looked nice from what I could see, but then again it was 3 in the morning. That night, we didn't have any reservations, so we ended up trying to just spend the night in a Walmart parking lot on the outskirts of Chicago (what an idea). We tried to go to bed for like 10 mins, and I swear I could hear a gun firing off in the distance, and you could hear people walking by the camper, and not to mention the cop sirens you could hear too. We basically got back in the truck and left real quick. Next, we went north and ended up staying at a place on the Missouri River for a couple of nights. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was of no surprise that I purchased my first muscle car at the age of 17. It was a 1973 Mach I Mustang. In 1999 I began employment at Bob's Auto Body in Rochester, Minnesota. I was a general shop assistant that was responsible for cleaning of the shop, maintenance of equipment as needed, and assisting the auto body technicians. I returned to Bob's Auto Body upon graduation to start my dream of car restoration in 2001. It was not long after graduation that the car restoration business took a hit. Customers either could not afford the high cost of car restoration or they were looking for a classic car in its original condition. Due to low work volume and a growing family, I transitioned to the Collision and Refinishing Department of Adamson Motors of Rochester, Minnesota, in September of 2003. • 39. Buffalo Bill Wild West Summary The westward expansion of American citizens was a progressive action that helped the nation to move forward during the mid–eighteen hundreds. The land that was being claimed came to be known as the frontier and few people settled there due to the perceived threat of Indians and what they thought was a lack of economic opportunity. This land was taken over by farmers and herders that controlled buffalo and used the fertile soil to make a living. The story of "Buffalo Bill's Wild West: Celebrity, Memory, and Popular History" shows how a man can start with nothing and grow to be a publicly recognized figure. The author of this story, Joy S. Kasson, recounts Buffalo Bill's life and the decisions he made along the way along with how the actions he took affected the events around him. This story, that takes a biographic approach, tells of Buffalo Bill's influence in society as a showman and in the perceived image of the wild west during this time. What were the author's main claims and how did she defend them? The author claims that William Cody, also known as Buffalo Bill, found success through luck and that his success was very fortunate and highly unlikely. In the biography the author writes, "In the process of becoming an international celebrity, Cody both followed and diverged from familiar pathways in the search for success and respectability that led many others to debt, obscurity, and failure" (page 12).
