Unit 5: matter
Natural science
4TH OF PRIMARY
2 properties of matter: Mass and volume
 MASS
 The quantity of matter that an object has.
 It is measured in KILOGRAMES
 You can use a BALANCE
 VOLUME
 The space that an object occupies
 It is measured in LITRES
 You can use a GRADUATED RECIPIENT
PROPERTIES OF MATTER
 Fragility – The glass is fragil. (glass of water). It is very easy to break.
 Resistance – The wood and the iron are resistant materials. It is difficult to break.
 Conductor – Metal is conductor. It transports the heat.
 Non – conductor – Wood is non conductor. It doesn’t transport the heat.
 Elasticity - A hairband is elastic. It can be deformed, and then recover the initial position.
 Transparence – The glass is transparent. (the window). You can look through the window.
QUESTIONS
 What property of matter is measured with litres?
 What property of matter is measured with a balance?
