Srinivasa Ramanujan was a renowned Indian mathematician who made significant contributions to analytical number theory, elliptic functions, and infinite series. He was born in 1887 in India and was largely self-taught, gaining knowledge of advanced mathematical concepts from books in his local library. Some of his most important works focused on hypergeometric series, partition functions, and divergent series. He collaborated with English mathematician G.H. Hardy and his works achieved widespread acclaim within the mathematics community. Ramanujan died in 1920 at a young age, but his mathematical genius and intuitive approach to problems continue to inspire mathematicians today.
