This document summarizes the key points from a webinar presentation on product positioning. It discusses common flaws in positioning strategies, such as trying to appeal to everyone without defining the target audience. It then covers what a positioning statement is and how to properly structure one to clearly communicate the value for a specific target persona. Examples are provided and common mistakes are highlighted, such as focusing on price instead of overall customer benefits. The presentation emphasizes that a positioning statement should be developed by a cross-functional team to ensure the positioning captures the true value for customers.

- Structuring market research for product management
- Questions product managers needs to answer
My presentation from Product Camp Dublin 2013
Thanks everyone who participated in this webcast from The Association of International Product Marketing and Management (AIPMM).
New products are the life force that sustains our companies. Yet, the journey from the lab to market success is fraught with peril. Over 70% of new products fail. Many of these failures could have been prevented. How do you avoid having your product trapped in this Valley of Death?
During this webinar, Neil Baron will introduce a proven process to increase the odds of new product commercial success. In this session we will use a case study of an actual breakthrough innovation that was successfully brought to market. Join Neil Baron as he shares insights on overcoming the challenges of bringing a new product to market.
In today’s ultra-competitive environment, organizations are pressured to get new products into the market immediately. This can cause fatal problems:
- They don't take the time to develop a structured go-to-market approach.
- What results is a random set of uncoordinated actions.
Key Takeaways from participating in this webinar:
- The three major obstacles to new product success
- A four step process for successfully introducing new products
- The one question to ask your prospects to accelerate their buying process
- How to avoid failure by choosing the right early users
About the Speaker:
Neil Baron, Managing Director, Baron Strategic Partners, is an internationally recognized expert on helping companies accelerate revenues from new technologies. Prior to starting his consulting firm, Neil was head of commercialization for a $150M division of a specialty chemical company. Despite the similar names, there are big differences between product management and project management. The confusion between the two roles is common and potentially harmful to organizations who do not acknowledge the distinction. This is often the case for companies that develop web-based and technology products.
A common challenge is that the two roles often appear to be at odds with each other. A product manager may want to add a lot of features to meet customer needs, but the project manager may want to limit the scope so that the project is delivered on time and under budget.
Join this webinar to learn:
Key differences between the roles of a project manager and product manager
Most important tasks for a project manager vs. a product manager
What needs to happen to get the most out of existing products within your organization

2017 04 product camp how to be strategicPhil Burton
This presentation was given at the 2017 Silicon Valley Product Camp.
An effective product strategy leads to more revenue and market share. If you are consumed by day-to-day issues and don't know how to get started with formulating a strategy for success, this session will show you some powerful tools and concepts for analysis and strategy formulation. The key to developing a strategy is addressing the right issues and not getting bogged down in too much detail.
We've all experienced the tension that occurs between designers, product managers, and engineers during release time. Scope creep is one key culprit, but another one that isn't often talked about amongst teams is when and how to handoff specs, designs, and code. In this presentation, Poornima Vijayashanker, formerly founding engineer at Mint.com, and currently Founder of two startups BizeeBee and Femgineer discusses about:
* How to setup a process for handoffs that is flexible.
* How to measure the success of the process and refine it over time.
* How to coordinate with teams outside of product and engineering in order to meet business goals.
About the Speaker
Poornima Vijayashanker is a software engineer, entrepreneur, speaker, blogger, and lecturer. After graduating from Duke University with degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer science she moved out to Silicon Valley to begin her career as an R&D Engineer. After a couple of years she was lured into startup land. Here first startup was Mint.com, where she was the founding engineer. After Mint's acquisition, she transitioned from being a founding engineer to a founder. Currently she is the CEO & Founder of two startups: BizeeBee and Femgineer, and is spending the fall of 2013 lecturing at Duke University. When she's not running companies and building products she's practicing Bikram yoga, cooking, or traveling around the world.

Key criteria for choosing APM solutions for the next normal: analysis of surv...eG Innovations
Historically, Application Performance Monitoring (APM) tools have mainly been focused on providing code level visibility for web applications. IT managers have had to deploy these solutions to complement infrastructure monitoring solutions to get end-to-end visibility across applications and services.
To understand how the APM needs of organizations have evolved in the next normal, eG Innovations and DevOps Institute conducted a survey. Over 900 software professionals - DevOps engineers, SREs, ITOps teams and system admins – shared their knowledge and thinking.
We’ve invited Eveline Oehrlich, Chief Research Officer at DevOps Institute and ex-Forrester VP and Research Director to join us to dissect the results of this survey. Eveline will share her experiences and knowledge within the APM space, discuss trends and will discuss what the future of APM should look like. Also joining the discussion will be Arun Aravamudhan, Head of Java APM and Web Products and web products at eG Innovations.
We are looking forward to you joining this webinar. Here are some highlights on what we will cover:
- Why APM is no longer just about code-level analysis
- The need for converged application and infrastructure monitoring
- The strategy for Kubernetes and cloud monitoring in the next normal
- The challenges with native cloud monitoring options
- Application performance management has gained management attention
Register now and learn the current state of APM adoption and how business needs in the next normal will change how APM should be leveraged.

Implicitly or explicitly all competing businesses employ a strategy to select a mix

involves recognizing relationships between elements of the marketing mix (e.g.,
price and product quality), as well as assessing competitive and market conditions
(i.e., industry structure in the language of economics).
The world of search engine optimization (SEO) is buzzing with discussions after Google confirmed that around 2,500 leaked internal documents related to its Search feature are indeed authentic. Implicitly or explicitly all competing businesses employ a strategy to select a mix
of marketing resources. Formulating such competitive strategies fundamentally
involves recognizing relationships between elements of the marketing mix (e.g.,
price and product quality), as well as assessing competitive and market conditions
(i.e., industry structure in the language of economics).

Knowing how to tell a well-structured story is key to building long-term memory. Stating a clear purpose that doesn't take away from the discovery learning process is critical. Ensuring that people move from theory to practical application is imperative. Creating strong social learning is the key to commitment and engagement. Validating and affirming participants' comments is the way to create a positive learning environment.

Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.
