What Is The Theme Of Lost Horizon
James Hilton wrote Lost Horizon in 1933, and it was an immediate success, selling millions of
copies, influencing President Roosevelt to name what s now Camp David Shangri La, and
Frank Capra, a hot director after an Oscar sweep with It Happened One Night in 1934, made a
movie of Lost Horizon in 1937. The book also makes a big impression at first reading, especially
for younger readers (which is when I first read it, many years ago now), who are captivated by the
atmosphere of mystery and mysticism.
The story of Lost Horizon is simple: a group of travellers are stranded in the Himalayas and they
encounter a remote monastery named Shangri La and the wonderful people who live there. Before
that point, Hilton includes a prologue and two lengthy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He exhibits a lethal (to the reader s interest, that is) mix of indecision and introspection. I quote at
length from the section immediately before he decides to leave:
And he knew, too, that his mind dwelt in a world of its own, Shangri La in microcosm, and that
this world also was in peril. For even as he nerved himself, he saw the corridors of his
imagination twist and strain under impact; the pavilions were toppling; all was about to be in
ruins. He was only partly unhappy, but he was infinitely and rather sadly perplexed. He did not
know whether he had been mad and was now sane, or had been sane for a time and was now mad
again. (216 7)
Partly unhappy! I ve seldom read about the internal life of a character that was so boring in its
complexity. Hamlet may have waffled, but at least Shakespeare set that in the context of the
revenge tragedy, an eventful genre. Part of my annoyance with Conway was his presence in an
adventure story gone awry; Conway is a symbol of the way the two halves of the book don t
support each other. Shangri La is an interesting place to visit, but not with the expectation of an
edge of the seat

The Use of Salicylic Acid in Medicine
The medical field uses acids and bases all of the time because, our body uses acids and bases every
day to try to get the PH levels as neutral as possible in our bodies. The neutral PH level in our
bodies is 7.3.When your organs stop neutralizing acids and bases you need medical help. If the
pH level goes over an acidity or basic level it can be really dangerous. That applies to almost
every reaction in your metabolism. Due to the fact that our body needs, and produces acids and
bases, I m going to touch on three. The first Acidis Salicylic Acid, most people have probably heard
if not used this common acid, for acne, warts, dandruff, and much more. The basethat I will be
talking about, Hydrogen Peroxide is used all the time typically for handling infected scrapes, burns
and minor cuts. Last but not least is, Alginate Acid, which is normally used or associated for
packing a wound, but is actually quite common, just unnoticed, like in your processed foods, and
fire retardants. Without the use of acids and bases in medicine, our pHlevels in our bodies wouldn t
be able to stay at a neutral 7.3 level.
Salicylic Acid is a common type of Acid used in the Medical world. This acid is used on the skin to
treat common skin blemishes, acne, dandruff, corn, calluses, and hand and foot warts. Salicylic
acid, will progressively peel off the wart, or reduce swelling, redness, and blocked pores for acne.
Salicylic acid is a keratolytic agent. It works and acts like an aspirin. It works

Theme Of Monsters Under The Bed
Monsters under the bed is a short story written by Lezanne Clannachan . The story takes place in
Waterloo station in London, where the 2 main character present. The 2 characters, which are called
Eddie and Angie, get into a conversation. In this conversation Eddie express a lot of emotional
feelings about his mother. It is his mother s birthday and he is on his way home, after buying eccles
cakes which is his mothersfavourite.
The relation between Eddie and Angie is a little bit confusing in the start, because Angie makes
Eddie angry because she reminds him of his own mother.

Fear is something we all had felt in some perspective. We are all scared of something. In this
story the mother of Eddie is afraid of the outside world. It seems that she has agoraphobia, that
she gets anxiety in circumstances where she feels a danger, uncomfortable or unsafe place. She
stood for ages with the front door open. In the end she gave up and lay down on the sofa
(...)(l.135 136). She s is also scared that no one will ever love her, that no one will ever look after
her and she is afraid that she will die alone. This is here Eddie comes into the picture, because he
is the only one she had left, she cut everyone off, like her mate Lilian and the neighbours. Maybe
Eddies biggest fear is to accept the fact that his mothers is his monster because he can t live his
life as he wants. He became resistance, because everything he loved had been taken away from
him. But in the end he overcome his fear and says, If he doesn t come home, his mum will have
to leave the house. Even if she only gets as far as the garden gat (l.173 174. )And that means that
his mother also has to overcome her fear and go

Christopher Weaver on Obamacare
This article by Christopher Weaver in the Wall Street Journal brings up some key points about the
number of enrollees in Obamacare as the enrollment deadline closed on Monday. Along the way,
the website has had its downfalls with the Congress shut down and technical issues. This may have
hindered the number of people who potentially would have signed up but got frustrated during the
process. It has been estimated that 7.1 million people have enrolled in the market place. The
impact of this number on the health law is yet to be determined. It also is unseen how this will
impact premiums in the long run, as well as if these insurancecompanies can maintain the plans
offered on the exchange (Weaver, 2014). Furthermore, the effect of many of the provisions and
mandates are yet to be seen; it will be an interesting next few years to see how it pans out. For
example, Weaver asks how many of these millions were previously uninsured. The main point of
the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was to attract the uninsured population to get insurance under the
law. Prior to the implementation of the ACA, there were over 50 million uninsured in America. It
is worth knowing how many of these people were just switching plans or how many of them are
new to the health insurance market. This would be the better measure of the effectiveness of this
law in regard to decreasing the total number of uninsured in America. Even though this will still
leave some insured, there are some reasons this may be

Dreams In Sandra Cisneros s The House On Mango Street
During the novel, The House on Mango Street, author Sandra Cisneros relives a childhood similar
to hers, where the main purpose of life is having the ability to dream. Most characters that live on
Mango Street, such as Esperanza Cordero, dream of having a better life and deserting their past of
poverty and struggle. Cisneros constantly makes this apparent to the reader because without
struggle and pain, the reward of escaping the neighborhood is not as meaningful. Throughout the
novel, The House on Mango Street, Sandra Cisneros develops the subject of dreaming through
Esperanzas relationships female family members, the symbol of writing, and the motif of houses.
To begin, Cisneros develops Esperanza s relationship with her mother and her friend, Alicia, in
order to promote the fact that leaving a community like Mango Street is possible. These minor
characters do not play a huge role in Esperanza s life, yet they unknowingly show her that it was,
and still is possible to get out. Alicia is significant to Esperanza because she proves that it is
possible to make it to college. When Esperanza hears that Alicia studies for the first time at the
university (Cisneros 31), she sets this in her mind as an example of what she is capable of. Her
mom also tells her that she could ve been somebody (90). Esperanza s mother was talented in
many categories, such as singing opera, speaking many languages, and working around the house.
However, she dropped out of school at a young age

Symbolism In The Devil s Arithmetic
The Devil s Arithmetic: a gruesome equation of addition and subtraction, a mix of human
numbers, a reviled combination of death and life. There are several denominations in presenting
the story of Hannah, similar or different they may be. To cover the rudimentary understanding,
Hannah, named after her aunt s dead friend, is forced by her parents to attend a Seder at her
grandparent s house. She is allowed to drink wine and opens the door for Elijah, according to
tradition. She speaks the words Ready or not, here I come... and is transported to the past.
Hannah(Chaya to everyone else) tries to indicate she is from the future, but the people in the
past(right around WWII) just shake their heads and think it is an aftereffect of a supposed illness
that took Chaya s parents. Hannah attends a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The men and women are separated, and put to work. There is a Commandant who hates them,
and they are slowly killed off(The Devil s Arithmetic) per commandant s orders. Working daily,
Hannah and her camp companions steal things such as scarves to get warmer during the frigid
days and gelid nights. Some young men form a plan to escape, but of no avail, even when they
change their course of action. Next, they are caught and killed in a merciless manner, as is
expected of the horrendous Nazis, who are currently killing more Jews daily than ever, probably
due to the fact that the Allies are winning the war. Soon after, Rivka(Hannah s friend) is chosen to
die, to Hannah responds by taking Rivka s scarf and going in her place to be killed; when she
arrives at the chamber, the mysterious power that has transported Hannah to a seemingly dream

Harvey Milk American Dream
Harvey Milk once said, ВЁIt takes no compromising to give people their rights. It takes no money
to respect the individual. It takes no survey to remove repressions.ВЁ. Even though there may not
be any downfalls to giving people their basic civil rights, some are forced to fight for them. The
American dream consists of these civil rights, and persons without them, cannot achieve this dream.
The myth of the American dream for some members of our society is apparent during the American
GayRights Movement, especially with certain people such as Harry Hay, Sylvia Rivera, and
Harvey Milk, as well as during important events like homosexualitybeing listed as a mental illness,
the Stonewall Uprising, and the vote on Proposition 8 in California.

Brigadier John Clayton headed by Humvee to Colonel Lambert s Command Post, located a mile
north west of the capital. There was no way John was heading into Indian Country without some
help; he felt he could count on Colonel Lambert of the 3rd Infantry Regiment for help. It was a
thirty minute drive from the White House to the CP, Colonel Lambert had no idea that the General
was coming, so when he pulled up and entered the CP, he was surprised to see him. The two men
over the past several weeks had become friends, mutual respect for their military accomplishments
and how they perceived the country. General Clayton entered the CP; a loud ATTEN hut! was

Colonel Lambert looked at the General, Alright, what can I do for you? I m sure you re not
visiting to check on my health. The Colonel said while smiling. I m heading over to General
Lane and from there toward Fredericks. I need help. I m sorry John, but we don t have a
therapist here. Funny Johnny, you know what I mean. I need an escort, I don t foresee any
issues getting to General Lane, but I m expecting trouble heading toward Fredericks from there.
Why not leave the 82nd to take up the security and take the Marines with you? I hadn t
considered that, but I don t know that I have the authority to order the Marines to escort me to
Fredericks. Talk to Lane about it, that s the great thing about Marines, they re always looking
for a fight. I ll bet my eagle that they don t want to sit around pulling security. I can give you a
Platoon to get you to them if that s what you need. General Clayton sat there for a moment, he
knew his orders were fairly broad from the President, and Johnny was making a good argument.
Yes the Platoon is good and I ll talk to Lane about it, the Marine escort would solve a lot of
problems. When can I have the Platoon?

Case Study Of Yue Sai
When marketing their brand Yue Sai should keep in mind that China is not one single unified
market, but is actually divided into many individual sub markets. The tastes of people are
different according to the regions they live in. Yue Sai must acknowledge these regional
differences in order to cater to all the markets. The more remote, smaller regions that have less
access to beauty brands could be a huge potential market for Yue Sai to capitalize on. The second
and third tier cities are growing at a faster rate than the overall growth in Chinaand are predicted to
continue this positive growth in the future (Koehler, 2013).
The majority of Yue Sai s customers would be from South China as they have the highest
purchasing power, so are more likely to purchase luxury goods. It is also important to note that
customers in East China are interested in purchasing a lifestyle and since Yue Sai is trying to sell
an image of a confident woman that leads a certain life, this could be an important market for them..

difficult being a consistent music producer, therefore, I am compelled to work diligently to

was able to become an average producer. I receive over two million views on my youtube
channels and over a million views on my website monthly. People buy my beats to help fund me
for future development. During school, I always receive notifications from. different people
asking for a unique beat or to license one that they took interest in. I fell in love with making
beats and I was ecstatic to find out that there was a career that could further develop my skills.
My love for beats keeps me dedicated to becoming one of the best producers, even if it takes a
long time. This dedication allowed me to not only be committed to my music, but also, to

I told people about my love for producing beats, many people doubted my skills and tried to kill my

Brics, India, China And South Africa
I. Introduction
The acronym of BRICS refers to a group of five emerging economies Brazil, Russia, India, China
and South Africa which represent nearly 30% of the earth s surface and 40% of world s
population . BRIC acronym was initially introduced by Chief Economist of Goldman Sachs in
his report Building Better Global Economic BRICs (2001). In 2010 South Africa was added to
this group of countries because of its increasing economy. Goldman Sachs in its long term
outlook in 2009 forecasted that BRICs economy will become as big as the G7 countries by 2032
and China s economy will become as big as the US economy by 2027.
One of the main reasons why BRICS gained important role in global economy was not only the
population and geographical features, but also the growth rate and increasing share in the
international trade. The BRICS share in world trade has increased from 3.6% in 1990 to 15% in
2010 and share in world GDP increased from 16% in 2000 to 25% in 2010.
It is evidenced that export is the main driver of economic growth in BRICS countries as they
implemented export oriented growth strategies. Brazil is very rich in coffee, soybean, sugar, and
crude oil. Major share in Russia s export is natural resources: gas, oil and natural minerals. South
Africa is the richest country in the world for reserves in chromium, platinum, platinum and alumino
silicates. Additionally South Africa generates and exports 45 per cent of Africa s total electricity.

The joint commission states that the videotaping of patients is allowed only when informed
consent has been given and signed. There are extenuating circumstances that fall out of this

A hospital then may video a patient only in scenarios that involve life threatening aspects. Other

Discussing Your Present Leisure Interests
DB#6 1. Discuss your present leisure interests. Also indicate and explain which of these interests
you expect will change and which you expect to remain stable as you age. My leisure activates
are now few and far between as time usually does not permit. I have always enjoyed reading and I
started knitting at the age of 26. However I cherish the time I spend with my 5 year old niece. I
usually keep her once a week, more often when our school schedules allow it. The reading and
knitting are expected to stay fairly stable throughout my life with the exceptions of my body
aging. It may come to a point that I have trouble seeing as I age (as early as 40 visual changes
can occur), farsightedness increases with age while nearsightedness decreases (Berger, 2010).
This would make knitting and reading more challenging, if I was unable to see close up.
Spending time with my niece will change drastically as we both age. She will be become more
interested in relationships, whether they are friendships or romantic relationships and will want
to spend a greater amount of time with her social clique or crowd. She is an extremely social
child so I imagine she will remain so as she grows. Also she is now extremely active, if she
remains that way she will want to participate in sports. As for my body it will continue to age, so
the agility and physical endurance I currently posses will continue to decrease. She has yet to
reach her physical peak of being stronger and more physically in shape

Change In Romanesque Churches
When the ideas behind a something change, how it is represented changes too. For the catholic
church, there was a change in people s thoughts about God. A new idea about the nature of God
became popular, that God is love, light, and all things good. People also began to think of the
church as the house of God, so it must be worthy. The view of God as light meant that there
should be a lot of light, natural light, in the church. This means a lot of windows. Windows were
placed around the sanctuary, and altar areas. This is the place where communion, is held, and
the effect on people coming into the church would have been awe inspiring. At certain times the
sanctuary would have been glowing. The large stained glass windows also served as what is
often called the poor man s bible , even if the church was one of the most expensive buildings in
the area. The emphasis on natural light, as opposed to an increase in candels, was based on the
idea that God s beauty... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It followed the train of thought that nature, the geometry of nature is perfect, and God has made
that perfect, so his house, AKA the church, should imitate that perfection. This caused the increase
in geometric shapes found in nature to be found in the church. Triangles can be found in the arched
windows and door, Circles in the Rose stained glass window. Symmetry was also very important.
The cause of such a heavy emphasis on light, and symmetry was because of something St Aquinas
said ad pulchritudinem tria requiruntur which means that the beauty of the three required. The
three being integrity, right proportion or harmony, and bright or vividness. If the church were to be
the symbol for God, and the holy city on earth it must be beautiful, and so it must have these

Yoga has been around for a very long period of time. It has been around for so long that no one is

It comes in various appearances and forms. The earliest displays were still closely related to those
of the Vedic sacrificial culture. Pre Classical Yoga also consists of the many schools whose
teachings can be found in India s two great national epics. These various schools developed
different kinds of techniques for attaining deep meditation through which students can transcend
the body and mind to discover their true nature. Classical Yoga applies to the eightfold Yoga,
which is also known as RГўja Yoga, taught by Patanjali in his Yoga SГ»tra. The world sГ»tra

By understanding the process of Yoga and its bringing about their separation, he helped restore the
spirit in its absolute purity. Post Classical Yoga is in contrast to Classical Yoga in the way that it
declares the ultimate unity of everything. A few centuries after Patanjali, Yoga took an interesting
turn during its evolution. Great masters were beginning to look into the hidden potential of the
body. Past generations of students didn t pay much attention to the body and its capabilities. They

Andrew George
232: Move and position individuals in accordance with their plan of care
1:1 Outline the anatomy and physiology of the human body in relation to the importance of correct
moving and positioning of individuals.
We need to know the normal range of movement of the muscles and joints so when moving,
handling and positioning a person we know the limits of each limb. We need to take into
consideration other factors that may inhibit a person s movements as:
Old Fractures
Torn Muscles
Rheumatism and Arthritic conditions.
This should all be written within the individuals care plan as well as a step by step plan on that has
been agreed with them on how to move and handle them.

3:4 Describe actions to take in relation to identified risks.
All identified risks should be reported to the nurse or the line manager on duty so it can be
corrected/amended and a new risk assessment can be put in place. This also should be documented
appropriately.
3:5 Describe what action should be taken if the individual s wishes conflict with their care plan of
care in relation to health and safety and their risk assessment.
If the individuals wishes conflict with their care plan in relation to health safety and their risk
assessment, you would need to ensure that the individuals wishes were listened to and respected
and that their, your own and others health and safety was not put at risk. Include the individual in
the risk assessment to help prevent conflict from arising, help them feel empowered, the reasons
why it is necessary, that it in place for them as well as the people that are helping them. Ask the
individual why it is that they object/disagree and give them time to explain. Give reassurance and

Christian and Environmental Stewardship
Christians and Stewardship of Their Environment 1. Introduction Our earthly habitat is not an
unexpected occurrence of little worth, but rather, it is one to be highly valued and preserved. The
biblical doctrine of creation helps the Christian to understand the true significance of the world in
order to deal with the environmental crisis. The Biblesays, For thus saith the Lord that created the
heavens; God himself that formed the earthand made it; he hath established it, he created it not in
vain, he formed it to be inhabited... (King James Version, Isaiah 45:18). In Christian teaching, God
not only created Heavens and Earth, but expressed His delight in His creation. This creation meant,
everything encompassing the trees, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That means we do not have the right to do with the earth as we see fit. We cannot exploit the
land and suck it dry of all of its natural resources. To be a steward is to manage the property of
another; that means to care for it and use it properly, not exploit or abuse the resources of the
master. On the other hand, we are not to revere or worship the earth as God s creation to the
point where we fail to subdue it. God commands us to have dominion over the animal kingdom
and to subdue the earth (Genesis 1:28). Pro environmental groups like Deep Ecology believe
that humans have an obligation to themselves and the environment as well. They believe that all
forms of life have the right to exist, and that humans aren t any different from other species.
They basically say that humans are equal to other species. ( Stanford Encyclopedia of
Philosophy ). This is the sin that Saint Paul refers to: Because they exchanged the truth about
God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed
forever (King James Version, Romans 1:25). Just as it is a sin to ruthlessly exploit the earth and
its resources for greedy gain, so too is it a sin to revere the earth as an object of worship. We must
walkout a balance between worship and exploitation, and that is where the stewardship model
comes in. The stewardship model sees the earth as a blessed gift from God for the advancement and
nurturing of human

Sacraments As A Critical Part Of The Catholic Faith
Sacraments Sacraments are a critical part of the foundation of the catholic faith, but where did the
sacraments originate? Our faith comes from the preachings of Jesus but he never specifically
described the sacraments and how to perform them. There are seven sacraments in the catholic
church and three initiation sacraments, which must be completed in order to be a full member of
the church. These sacraments when completed together allow you t become one in God, but where
do the sacraments draw their power and how?
The first recorded baptism was performed by John the Baptist. John the Baptist is Jesus cousin and
was deemed the preparer for his cousin. John was called to prepare for the coming of the lord
and the kingdom of God as well warn people for their ultimate judgement. John called on his
followers to repent and make ready their hearts for the Lord, this was accomplished through
baptism. John would immerse his follower in the river Jordan; however, in order for the
sacrament to have validity multiple essential things must first be accomplished. John s followers
must have complete faith in his message of the Messiah; they must also recognize that this was a
sacrament of repentance that must lead to change. Confession was also a necessary part of John s
baptism and ultimately repentance and the forgiveness of sin. Through this process, one is able to
be renewed in the Lord and be prepared for the arrival of the Messiah and their final judgement. For

Racism and Stereotype in Karl Linder s Speech
Racism is a fatal flaw in human society. Whole cultures could be eradicated or brought to the brink
of destruction, such as when Adolf Hitler, leader of the Nazi regime, brought on the Holocaust. In
his efforts to bring the Jews to extinction he captured and imprisoned the Jews into concentration
camps separated from the rest of society. Karl Linder in his efforts to keep the community of
Clybourne Park pure for his growing family, attempts to assert dominance over the Stoller family

of what Karl was explaining to Russ and Jim the upcoming residents of the household, that is

(Norris). After the rejection of his bribe produced by his leadership role in the Community
Association by Walter Younger in A Raisin in the Sun, instead of arguing with the large man, he
retreats and attempts to convince the Stollers to either stay in Clybourne Park or to deny the

The Birth Control And Contraceptive Pills
Birth control up to this global has been a topic of contention. Abortion is still illegal in many
countries, and the issue is still up for debate. Birth control and contraceptive pills, however, are
common aspects of family planning. These have been helpful for not only families but also national
governments in their bid to control population growth. To achieve this, however, down history,
there have been numerous efforts by quite remarkable individuals who dedicated their lives to fight
for women rights and birth control. Among such personalities is Margaret Sangerwho is widely
regarded as the mother of contraceptives and birth control (Watson). It is through the efforts of this
fearless woman in collaboration with other like minded individuals that contraceptive pills came to
be and their subsequent legalization. As evidenced by her numerous campaigns based on feminism
and women rights, she fought a hard battle in the process of legalizing birth control. This study
paper investigates and establishes various aspects of her life and the subsequent achievements of
her efforts.

Sociological Perspectives on Religion Essay example
Religion is a ritualized system of beliefs and practices related to things defined as sacred by an
organized community of believers. (Basirico et.al. 379). Religion is an important element in the
society because it influences the way individuals act and think. It has shaped the relationship and
bonding among families as well as influenced the decision made in economics and politics. Religion
in general has contributed to shape a society and a government structure which will influence the
way the individuals under certain governmental structure behave. Sociologists are interested in
religion mainly because religious belief is heavily rooted in individuals lives and it helps
sociologists to interpret human s actions, expression, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, no matter how sociologists and scientists view religion, there are a lot of people who
will still believe in their own religion and that there exists a power that science cannot explain. For
example, in an Islamic country such as Indonesia, government is organized base on what is
appropriate according to Islam. Even though, there are a lot of people questions the existence of
supernatural power and hundreds of books publish that study the scientific view of religion,
government and people in that country still believe in their religions. Students at school also
study about science and sociological perspective toward religion and almost every student still
believe in their religion and practice it in their societies. Moreover, in US where freedom of
speech is allowed and knowledge can be shared quickly by internet, every person in US knows
about scientific study of religion but Christianity is still emphasized in everyday life. People
may only view sociological and scientific perspective of religion as one of the knowledge that
need to be known but doesn t have to be practiced. Overall, the sociological study in religions
does not undermine nor strengthen one s faith. Other factors such as people who use religion to

Introducing New Coke Essay
In this case of Coca Cola changing their well established Coke formula and introducing an new
one in 1985 for the purpose of gaining more market share; the reason why such decision was
made by Coke s executives was mainly because of a series of marketing campaign conducted by
their major arrival Pepsi. During mid 1970s, Pepsi has ran a the famous Pepsi Challenge of
blind taste tests on all the commercials to show that the majority preferred Pepsi than Coke
based on its teste. By 1977, Pepsi had exceeded Coke s market share in major restaurant chains
and food stores. Under the threat of being taken over by Pepsi and losing the industrial leader
position, Coke released their new formulated coke on April 23th, 1985. While the Coke s new...

But the company considered, and rejected, planed to keep the old formula drink in circulation
under the name original Coke. The taste question was crucial to Coke. But what Coca Cola
executives failed to realize was that there is more to marketing soft drinks than winning taste tests.
More than any other product consumers had an emotional attachment to their soft drink brand. I
believe from Americans point of view, Coke discovered fiddling with the formula of the 99 year old
beverage was probably an assault to their patriotic pride. Here I can quote a saying from Coca
Cola s President Donald R. Keough to summarize what Coca Cola has learned: We did not
understand the deep emotions of so many of our customers for Coca Cola.
I think any marketer who plans a noticeable revision of a product must consider the loyalty of its
consumers and the possibility that the change will be rejected. To prevent this possibility,
marketers should realize that balking at change is a customer characteristic of specific product
preferences. Also, in this case, a more sophisticated qualitative and quantitative research could have
been conducted and prevented Coke from this mistake. Consumers resist changes for many reasons
brand choice results from a complex set of beliefs, buyers associate products with themselves,
buyers do not fit into clear segments. I think the key to all the marketers is to realize the
involvement of what a product actually does

So, how does crock pot cooking actually help beat the heat? Simply put, the crock pot in and of
itself gives off far less heat when cooking than an oven or stove top. This is the first and possibly
the best reason to utilize the crock pot in your summer meal planning.

Differences Between Bible Myths And Greek Myths
Last week, I have read the GREEK MYTHS and I found there are some similarities and differences

After reading the Bible and Greek myths, you will find the biggest difference is that the number of
gods is totally different. In the Bible, they only believe in one God faithfully; however, people
believe in twelve big Gods and other small Gods in the GREEK MYTHS, such as Zeus, Athene,

Bible can do everything and he controlled all the rights by himself, but in Greek all the Gods had

Wake Up America As we age, our lives are divided into stages with inescapable hardships. The most
difficult of these stages has proven to be adolescence and young adulthood, the years in which our
personalities are defined. This juncture is the pinnacle of maturation, however, it is gradually
becoming a plateau wherein inactivity is most prevalent. It is indisputable that American children
and young adults alike are lingering in their youth for far too long. Many in their teens and twenties

As boundaries are pushed, the standards of what it means to be an adult are changing. One factor
that is keeping our young adults from becoming functioning members of society is their lack of
independence. In Eve Tushnet s You Can Go Home Again, a 2008 study showed that out of
those who have returned home or those who never left the nest, few contributed financially to
the household or [do] chores (par. 5). If the leaders of our future generations refuse to contribute
to their homes, what can they contribute to the betterment of our society? There is a growing
stigma around adults who live with their parents yet these consequences are not proving any
prevention, and those who ignore the reputation are being described as having failed to launch,
(par. 4). The numbers of those adults are steadily rising. As less emphasis is placed upon the
value of responsibilities, adults feel that they are given the excuse to move back home after
college or at least find a way to depend upon their parents again. An article by Karen L.
Fingerman and Frank F. Furstenberg entitled You Can Go Home Again, argues for a recent study
depicting that almost 70 percent of parents still provide some type of practical assistance to their
children every month. This specific reliance teaches adolescents that they will never have to work
to their maximum potential as their parents will never truly stop cleaning up their mess. While it
must be considered that higher satisfaction and clearer life goals have been reported amongst those
receiving assistance (par. 3), this gives leeway to indolence and overdependence, essentially
teaching our children that effort is not necessary so long as you are

The Ageing Population
Ageing population is a worldwide pattern; it has major implications for the way in which
programs designed to support older people are funded. While social security and means tested
social assistance programs for long term care protect the living standards of the poor, middle
income groups face under appreciated risks, such as outliving their capital or needing expensive
long term care. This will cause economic, social, and political implications of a rapidly ageing
population, which will affect society and businesses.
New Zealand, like many countries, has ageing population, with an increasing proportion of
people in the older age groups and a declining proportion of children. Many impacts such as
increase in the dependency ratio, increased government spending on health care and pensions,
high taxes, shortage of workers, changing sectors within the economy, and higher savings for
pensions may reduce capital investment can effect all societies. Since 1960, the proportion of
the population under 15 years of age has declined from around 33% and is expected to fall to
18% by 2031. (Statistics New Zealand, 2009) According to New Zealand Parliament (2011), age
population is a consequence of the baby boom which occurred in New Zealand. Compare with
other countries high fertility (the number of births per woman) and improved infant survival rate in
the decades after the end of World War Two. New Zealand has one of the highest fertility rates in

The Theme Of Blindness In Cathedral By Raymond Carver s...
In the short story Cathedral, author Raymond Carver uses the narrator of the story as a model for
his purpose: blindness is subjective. Throughout the text, we are taken on a journey of self
discovery as the narrator changes from being judgemental and shallow to having an epiphany and
realizing that an individual s worth goes beyond their outward appearance; that the greatest and
most deep connections are achieved by looking at one s heart.
The narrator of Cathedral , also known as the husband, is judgmental, jealous, and emotionally
disconnected from his wife. Throughout Cathedral , he displays feelings of disgust and confusion
toward his wife s relationships with men of her past. As he waits for his wife and the blind man to
come into the house he makes an observation: I saw her get out of the car and shut the door. She
was still wearing a smile. Just amazing (4). Although the character is seemingly confident in the
status of his relationship with his wife, his interjections of judgment throughout the text reveal
feelings of insecurity. Him finding it amazing that his wife would be smiling for a prolonged
amount of time suggests that her reaction is not typical or an emotional reaction that she gives him.
Throughout Cathedral the narrator assumes himself to be superior to the blind man, Robert,
making snippy comments about his disability and rationalizing that his blindness prevents Robert
from doing normal tasks to pleasing his wife. When his wife begins to

Analysis Of The Documentary Jesus Camp
Jesus Camp Response
Arguments can be extremely frustrating. Sometimes no matter how accurate a particular
perspective appears to someone, it may be impossible to convince another to feel the same. The
differences in fundamental values between people are responsible for the differences the formation
of opinions. The manner in which people adopt these core beliefs is no mystery, and is explored in
the documentary Jesus Camp. Humans are social animals, and cultural systems have been
established since the beginning of humanity to strengthen the quality of interactions. Human babies
are unable to raise themselves, and require the care of adults to foster. Throughout the process of
development, children adopt the culture presented to them by adults. Children, who are
psychologically developing, are extremely malleable in comparison to adults. This makes them an
important focus for an adult generation looking to succeed their beliefs. This film inspects the
strong Evangelical upbringing several families practice with their children, portraying this in an
unflattering manner. All cultures are different, and these differences should be praised as well as
made compatible with modern society as much as possible.
Indoctrination should be accepted because it is unavoidable and only seems negative to an outsider.

for a low price. I have always enjoyed their marketing campaigns and Super Bowl commercials,
which is another feature I appreciate. Along with delivering a good product, they make it fun and
enjoyable for consumers, from a marketing standpoint. I am a brand loyalist because Miller Lite
provides me with a product that has never let me down; I have never had a problem with the
beverage. The product has never let me down because it continually has good deals and
promotions, it consistently tastes good, and I associate the drink with the good times I have had in
the past, which makes me want to continue experiencing those good times and create new memories.

Bass Pro Shops
Prepare a S.W.O.T. analysis for Bass Pro Shops. What types of strategies do you recommend based
on your analysis?
Strengths (company s internal factors from resources and capabilities) Bass Pro Shops have a
competitive advantage, which in the text is defined as a firm has a marketing mix that the target
market sees as better than a competitor s mix (Perreault et al, 2011 p. 47). The way that Bass Pro
Shops has this competitive advantage is that its stores have become a tourist attraction making
customers want to go into their stores to experience the unique environment that incorporates
attractions and learning opportunities. In addition, Bass Pro Shops have gained recognition for
their outstanding customer service. The people that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the economy in a downturn it makes it a lot more difficult for people to justify spending
the money on things that they really do not need. And since these stores are not everywhere you
go it causes people to travel long distances in order to visit, which means they have to spend
additional money on fuel to get there. The gas prices have been increasing to amounts that have
put a damper on a lot of peoples travel plans. With all of the economic problems some customers
are going to go somewhere that is more local and better in their price range. In addition, Bass Pro
Shops face threats from traditional and specialty sporting stores, mass merchandisers, and catalog
and Internet based retailers. These merchandise providers are everywhere and the 50 Bass Pro
Shops that are currently in the United States and Canada can be quite a distance for the outdoor
enthusiast that already knows what he or she may need. Furthermore, the consumer who enters a
store with the intention to only touch and / or play with an item that he or she ultimately plans to
purchase online threatens all retail stores.
We would recommend that Bass Pro Shops continue to make their stores unique; however, making
a few smaller stores with some of the same features, lower prices, and closer to large shopping
centers would allow customers to experience the environment, which may entice them to visit the
larger stores. I think that since they

I Stand Here Ironing Symbolism
In I Stand Here Ironing , the author uses symbolism, imagery and diction to denote the mother s
candidness, and how she trusted her daughter s own ability. The author does this to make a point
about common mistakes that people make when raising kids. The symbolism in this story is the
mother ironing. Her ironing symbolizes what it is like to be a parent, I stand here ironing, and what
you asked me moves tormented back and forth with the iron, said the mother(Olsen 1). Much like
the motion of ironing, going back and forth repetitively, in life a parent sometimes has to just go
through the motions to get the job done. It is expected for a parent to always care what they re
child is doing, and if what they re doing is socially unacceptable then it is the parent s job to fix
them. The mother is candid because she tells the person she is on the phone with there is
nothing she can do about the way her daughter is behaving: You think because I am her mother I
have a key, or that in some way you could use me as a key, she said (Olsen 8). She understands
that her daughter is standoffish because that s we way she s always been. Therefore, her trying to
step in and help wouldn t help the situation at all. I can be seen again that the ironing is a... Show

It s easy to realize that the mother doesn t know or understand her daughter very well because the
only time she can describe her is when she is a baby. She says, She was a beautiful baby, and then
continues to give attributes of her daughter in past tense because she s not sure that they still apply
to her now, She loved motion, loved light, loved color and music and textures (Olsen 35). The
mother has comfort in knowing these few things about Emily because she knows that her daughter
will still have a bright future because of her wit these artistic

The Positive Impacts Of Athletic Participation And...
Just as studies at the collegiate level have found athletic participation to be both positive and
negatively related to academic performance, the same came be seen at the high school level.
However, in some of the early studies athletic participation was not seen to have an impact on
academic achievement (Lumpkin Favor, 2012). Hauser and Lueptow (1978) found in their study of
852 senior males that graduated in 1972, from five moderately large Midwestern city high schools,
that their results were in line with the results of the 1973, Lueptow and Kayser (as cited in Hauser
and Lueptow, 1978) study that they replicated, do not support a casual interpretation of the
relationship between athletic involvement and academic achievement. (Hauser Lueptow, 1978, p.
308). Alternatively, that athletic participation was not the underlining reason, but the initial
dissimilarities in academic achievement between athletes and non athletes. Marsh (1993) in his
study found a similar lack of effects for athletic participation on school grades. However, he did
find participation in athletics during the last two years of high schoolhad a statistically significant
positive impact for 14 of 22 senior and post high school outcomes and no apparent negative
effects. There do seem to be more studies that find either a negative impact (Beem, 2006; Cook,
2003; Gehring, 2004; Goldman 1991; Klein, 2011) or positive impact (Burnett, 2000; Fejgin, 1994;

The Missouri Compromise Of 1820
The Missouri Compromise of 1820 was an attempt by Congress to defuse the sectional and
political rivalries triggered by the request of Missouri late in 1819 for admission as a land in
which slavery would be allowed. At the time, the United States contained twenty two states, evenly
divided between slave states and free states. (Missouri Compromise , 2016) The Compromise of
1850was laws admitting California as a free state, creating Utah and New Mexico territories with
the question of slavery in each to be determined by popular sovereignty, settling a Texas New
Mexico boundary dispute in the former s favor, ending the slave trade in Washington, D.C. and
making it easier for southerners to recover fugitive slaves. (Compromise of 1850, 2016) The
Compromise of 1850 and the Missouri Compromise of 1820 had many similarities. Both attempted
to balance the slave nations, added states into the Union, encouraged Sectionalism in the North and
South, and they influenced the Civil War. Each sectional would affect the balance of power
between the North and South greatly. Both the Compromise of 1850 and the Missouri Compromise
of 1820 had many similarities, although alike in many ways one major conflict would be the path
they each would bear upon the balance of force between the Northern States and Southern States.
Both the Missouri Compromise of 1820 and the Compromise of 1850 would each try to balance
the slave states and free states. In 1819, when Missouri requested admission to the

Essay on Analysis of The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Hokusai
The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Hokusai is a famous woodcut print that is commonly referred
to as The Great Wave. Hokusai Katsushika was one of the greatest Japanese printmakers of the
19th century. The print, The Great Wave, is a part of a 36 piece series of the views of Japan s most
famous mountain; Mount Fuji. Hokusais series was very popular and sold rather quickly. Due to its
popularity, Hokusai decided to extend the series to 46 pieces. The original piece was created
around 1830 and was published in 1832 by Nishimuraya Yohachi. Within this paper, I will be
discussing the analysis of this print while connecting my findings to the elements and principles of
design. The lines within this print are dynamic and static. Dynamic lines are... Show more content

It might, due to the wood it is printed on, but the artist did not put any literal texture onto the
print. Although, there is implied texture that we can see within the painting; the lines, values,
and shadows can create an implied texture. An example within the print would be the tips of the
wave, Hokusai uses shadows and rigid lines to create texture of the waves turning into mist. The
bottom of the wave is a smooth line, creating the texture of slick water being sucked up to the
top of the giant wave. There are many values within this print, but only constitute a handful of
colors: Blue, brown, black, white, and gray. Blue is the main color within this print, there are
many values of the color blue used. The deepest part of the waves are the darkest blue, while the
parts of the waves closest to the surface are lightest blue or white. The sky has a gradient, which
is going from the lightest color to the darkest color or vice versa; the sky is creating a gradient,
from the bottom up, of black to a very light gray, then to a white yellow. The colors chosen by
Hokusai can also interpret feelings and emotions. The habitual feeling when seeing the color blue
is sadness. Sadness and despair would be fitting emotions for this work, due to the giant wave
about to crash upon the men in their boats. Blue can also emit a feeling of elegance. The
composition of the print and how the lines of the wave flow can be considered a form of elegance.

The Problem Of Total Joint Force
The problem the total Joint Force (JF) 2025 will face will be consistent emerging gray zone threats
that include hybrid and near peer competitors trying to tip the balance in the global security
environment. In addition, as the Department of Defense (DOD) learned from past wars while its
resources reduce, the total JF 2025 must adapt and become more agile in countering these emerging
threats. The DOD has provided the strategic and militaryguidance along with associated posturing
statements for the complementary capabilities of strategic adaptability and agility that will enable
the rebalancing of the total JF 2025, support future contingency operations, and mitigate risk.
Recently General Dunford stated, a ready JF is one that can effectively meet the steady state
requirements of the combatant commanders, deter our adversaries, and respond decisively in the
event of a contingency. The total JF in 2025 will need to adapt and become more agile faster than
these emerging threats. It will also need to continue deterring global adversaries if it wants to
sustain enduring strategic and operational success while remaining decisive in supporting the
national defense strategy.
The DOD has released multiple documents since 2012 in support of developing its defense
strategy. First, the 2012 Defense Strategic Guidance and 2014 Quadrennial Defense Review,
established priorities that included, rebalance to the Asia Pacific region, maintain security in
Europe and the Middle East;

  • 2. What Is The Theme Of Lost Horizon James Hilton wrote Lost Horizon in 1933, and it was an immediate success, selling millions of copies, influencing President Roosevelt to name what s now Camp David Shangri La, and Frank Capra, a hot director after an Oscar sweep with It Happened One Night in 1934, made a movie of Lost Horizon in 1937. The book also makes a big impression at first reading, especially for younger readers (which is when I first read it, many years ago now), who are captivated by the atmosphere of mystery and mysticism. The story of Lost Horizon is simple: a group of travellers are stranded in the Himalayas and they encounter a remote monastery named Shangri La and the wonderful people who live there. Before that point, Hilton includes a prologue and two lengthy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He exhibits a lethal (to the reader s interest, that is) mix of indecision and introspection. I quote at length from the section immediately before he decides to leave: And he knew, too, that his mind dwelt in a world of its own, Shangri La in microcosm, and that this world also was in peril. For even as he nerved himself, he saw the corridors of his imagination twist and strain under impact; the pavilions were toppling; all was about to be in ruins. He was only partly unhappy, but he was infinitely and rather sadly perplexed. He did not know whether he had been mad and was now sane, or had been sane for a time and was now mad again. (216 7) Partly unhappy! I ve seldom read about the internal life of a character that was so boring in its complexity. Hamlet may have waffled, but at least Shakespeare set that in the context of the revenge tragedy, an eventful genre. Part of my annoyance with Conway was his presence in an adventure story gone awry; Conway is a symbol of the way the two halves of the book don t support each other. Shangri La is an interesting place to visit, but not with the expectation of an edge of the seat ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Use of Salicylic Acid in Medicine The medical field uses acids and bases all of the time because, our body uses acids and bases every day to try to get the PH levels as neutral as possible in our bodies. The neutral PH level in our bodies is 7.3.When your organs stop neutralizing acids and bases you need medical help. If the pH level goes over an acidity or basic level it can be really dangerous. That applies to almost every reaction in your metabolism. Due to the fact that our body needs, and produces acids and bases, I m going to touch on three. The first Acidis Salicylic Acid, most people have probably heard if not used this common acid, for acne, warts, dandruff, and much more. The basethat I will be talking about, Hydrogen Peroxide is used all the time typically for handling infected scrapes, burns and minor cuts. Last but not least is, Alginate Acid, which is normally used or associated for packing a wound, but is actually quite common, just unnoticed, like in your processed foods, and fire retardants. • 5. Christopher Weaver on Obamacare This article by Christopher Weaver in the Wall Street Journal brings up some key points about the number of enrollees in Obamacare as the enrollment deadline closed on Monday. Along the way, the website has had its downfalls with the Congress shut down and technical issues. This may have hindered the number of people who potentially would have signed up but got frustrated during the process. It has been estimated that 7.1 million people have enrolled in the market place. The impact of this number on the health law is yet to be determined. It also is unseen how this will impact premiums in the long run, as well as if these insurancecompanies can maintain the plans offered on the exchange (Weaver, 2014). Furthermore, the effect of many of the provisions and mandates are yet to be seen; it will be an interesting next few years to see how it pans out. For example, Weaver asks how many of these millions were previously uninsured. The main point of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was to attract the uninsured population to get insurance under the law. Prior to the implementation of the ACA, there were over 50 million uninsured in America. It is worth knowing how many of these people were just switching plans or how many of them are new to the health insurance market. This would be the better measure of the effectiveness of this law in regard to decreasing the total number of uninsured in America. BRIC acronym was initially introduced by Chief Economist of Goldman Sachs in his report Building Better Global Economic BRICs (2001). In 2010 South Africa was added to this group of countries because of its increasing economy. Goldman Sachs in its long term outlook in 2009 forecasted that BRICs economy will become as big as the G7 countries by 2032 and China s economy will become as big as the US economy by 2027. One of the main reasons why BRICS gained important role in global economy was not only the population and geographical features, but also the growth rate and increasing share in the international trade. The BRICS share in world trade has increased from 3.6% in 1990 to 15% in 2010 and share in world GDP increased from 16% in 2000 to 25% in 2010. We cannot exploit the land and suck it dry of all of its natural resources. To be a steward is to manage the property of another; that means to care for it and use it properly, not exploit or abuse the resources of the master. On the other hand, we are not to revere or worship the earth as God s creation to the point where we fail to subdue it. God commands us to have dominion over the animal kingdom and to subdue the earth (Genesis 1:28). Pro environmental groups like Deep Ecology believe that humans have an obligation to themselves and the environment as well. They believe that all forms of life have the right to exist, and that humans aren t any different from other species. They basically say that humans are equal to other species. ( Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy ). This is the sin that Saint Paul refers to: Because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever (King James Version, Romans 1:25). Just as it is a sin to ruthlessly exploit the earth and its resources for greedy gain, so too is it a sin to revere the earth as an object of worship. • 24. Sacraments As A Critical Part Of The Catholic Faith Sacraments Sacraments are a critical part of the foundation of the catholic faith, but where did the sacraments originate? Our faith comes from the preachings of Jesus but he never specifically described the sacraments and how to perform them. There are seven sacraments in the catholic church and three initiation sacraments, which must be completed in order to be a full member of the church. These sacraments when completed together allow you t become one in God, but where do the sacraments draw their power and how? The first recorded baptism was performed by John the Baptist. John the Baptist is Jesus cousin and was deemed the preparer for his cousin. John was called to prepare for the coming of the lord and the kingdom of God as well warn people for their ultimate judgement. John called on his followers to repent and make ready their hearts for the Lord, this was accomplished through baptism. John would immerse his follower in the river Jordan; however, in order for the sacrament to have validity multiple essential things must first be accomplished. John s followers must have complete faith in his message of the Messiah; they must also recognize that this was a sacrament of repentance that must lead to change. Confession was also a necessary part of John s baptism and ultimately repentance and the forgiveness of sin. Through this process, one is able to be renewed in the Lord and be prepared for the arrival of the Messiah and their final judgement. For by one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Karl Linder in his efforts to keep the community of Clybourne Park pure for his growing family, attempts to assert dominance over the Stoller family (the Caucasian family moving away) and the Younger family (the African American family moving in), as if attempting to create a reverse concentration camp. After the rejection of his bribe produced by his leadership role in the Community Association by Walter Younger in A Raisin in the Sun, instead of arguing with the large man, he retreats and attempts to convince the Stollers to either stay in Clybourne Park or to deny the house to the Youngers. Another example of his cowardice towards men is on page forty, where he taunts Russ about his threat to punch Jim in the face by saying that Russ s actions were very masculine in a sarcastic tone and the Russ was mentally unstable as he started to retreat from Russ and proceeded to go through the door (Norris 40). Though Karl made bad decisions throughout his efforts to keep the community ethnical pure , he had the best intention at heart. Birth control and contraceptive pills, however, are common aspects of family planning. I believe from Americans point of view, Coke discovered fiddling with the formula of the 99 year old beverage was probably an assault to their patriotic pride. Here I can quote a saying from Coca Cola s President Donald R. Keough to summarize what Coca Cola has learned: We did not understand the deep emotions of so many of our customers for Coca Cola. I think any marketer who plans a noticeable revision of a product must consider the loyalty of its consumers and the possibility that the change will be rejected. To prevent this possibility, marketers should realize that balking at change is a customer characteristic of specific product preferences. Also, in this case, a more sophisticated qualitative and quantitative research could have been conducted and prevented Coke from this mistake. As boundaries are pushed, the standards of what it means to be an adult are changing. One factor that is keeping our young adults from becoming functioning members of society is their lack of independence. In Eve Tushnet s You Can Go Home Again, a 2008 study showed that out of those who have returned home or those who never left the nest, few contributed financially to the household or [do] chores (par. 5). If the leaders of our future generations refuse to contribute to their homes, what can they contribute to the betterment of our society? There is a growing stigma around adults who live with their parents yet these consequences are not proving any prevention, and those who ignore the reputation are being described as having failed to launch, (par. 4). The numbers of those adults are steadily rising. As less emphasis is placed upon the value of responsibilities, adults feel that they are given the excuse to move back home after college or at least find a way to depend upon their parents again. An article by Karen L. Fingerman and Frank F. Furstenberg entitled You Can Go Home Again, argues for a recent study depicting that almost 70 percent of parents still provide some type of practical assistance to their children every month. This specific reliance teaches adolescents that they will never have to work to their maximum potential as their parents will never truly stop cleaning up their mess. While it must be considered that higher satisfaction and clearer life goals have been reported amongst those receiving assistance (par. 3), this gives leeway to indolence and overdependence, essentially teaching our children that effort is not necessary so long as you are ... In the short story Cathedral, author Raymond Carver uses the narrator of the story as a model for his purpose: blindness is subjective. Throughout the text, we are taken on a journey of self discovery as the narrator changes from being judgemental and shallow to having an epiphany and realizing that an individual s worth goes beyond their outward appearance; that the greatest and most deep connections are achieved by looking at one s heart. The narrator of Cathedral , also known as the husband, is judgmental, jealous, and emotionally disconnected from his wife. Throughout Cathedral , he displays feelings of disgust and confusion toward his wife s relationships with men of her past. As he waits for his wife and the blind man to come into the house he makes an observation: I saw her get out of the car and shut the door. She was still wearing a smile. Just amazing (4). Although the character is seemingly confident in the status of his relationship with his wife, his interjections of judgment throughout the text reveal feelings of insecurity. Him finding it amazing that his wife would be smiling for a prolonged amount of time suggests that her reaction is not typical or an emotional reaction that she gives him. The manner in which people adopt these core beliefs is no mystery, and is explored in the documentary Jesus Camp. Humans are social animals, and cultural systems have been established since the beginning of humanity to strengthen the quality of interactions. Human babies are unable to raise themselves, and require the care of adults to foster. Throughout the process of development, children adopt the culture presented to them by adults. Children, who are psychologically developing, are extremely malleable in comparison to adults. This makes them an important focus for an adult generation looking to succeed their beliefs. The author does this to make a point about common mistakes that people make when raising kids. The symbolism in this story is the mother ironing. Her ironing symbolizes what it is like to be a parent, I stand here ironing, and what you asked me moves tormented back and forth with the iron, said the mother(Olsen 1). (Missouri Compromise , 2016) The Compromise of 1850was laws admitting California as a free state, creating Utah and New Mexico territories with the question of slavery in each to be determined by popular sovereignty, settling a Texas New Mexico boundary dispute in the former s favor, ending the slave trade in Washington, D.C. and making it easier for southerners to recover fugitive slaves. (Compromise of 1850, 2016) The Compromise of 1850 and the Missouri Compromise of 1820 had many similarities. Both attempted to balance the slave nations, added states into the Union, encouraged Sectionalism in the North and South, and they influenced the Civil War. Although, there is implied texture that we can see within the painting; the lines, values, and shadows can create an implied texture. An example within the print would be the tips of the wave, Hokusai uses shadows and rigid lines to create texture of the waves turning into mist. The bottom of the wave is a smooth line, creating the texture of slick water being sucked up to the top of the giant wave. There are many values within this print, but only constitute a handful of colors: Blue, brown, black, white, and gray. Blue is the main color within this print, there are many values of the color blue used. The deepest part of the waves are the darkest blue, while the parts of the waves closest to the surface are lightest blue or white. The Problem Of Total Joint Force The problem the total Joint Force (JF) 2025 will face will be consistent emerging gray zone threats that include hybrid and near peer competitors trying to tip the balance in the global security environment. In addition, as the Department of Defense (DOD) learned from past wars while its resources reduce, the total JF 2025 must adapt and become more agile in countering these emerging threats. The DOD has provided the strategic and militaryguidance along with associated posturing statements for the complementary capabilities of strategic adaptability and agility that will enable the rebalancing of the total JF 2025, support future contingency operations, and mitigate risk. Recently General Dunford stated, a ready JF is one that can effectively meet the steady state requirements of the combatant commanders, deter our adversaries, and respond decisively in the event of a contingency. The total JF in 2025 will need to adapt and become more agile faster than these emerging threats. It will also need to continue deterring global adversaries if it wants to sustain enduring strategic and operational success while remaining decisive in supporting the national defense strategy. The DOD has released multiple documents since 2012 in support of developing its defense strategy. First, the 2012 Defense Strategic Guidance and 2014 Quadrennial Defense Review, established priorities that included, rebalance to the Asia Pacific region, maintain security in Europe and the Middle East; ...
