The document discusses marketing communication strategies for start-ups and early stage companies. It provides six key lessons: 1) Marketing communication is not optional and happens through any interaction, 2) Marketing encompasses more than just advertising, including relationships with various stakeholders, 3) People are central to a company's success, 4) The focus should be on building relationships rather than just product positioning, 5) A personal brand is as important as the company brand, and 6) Crises should be used as opportunities to improve communication. Effective marketing communication for start-ups relies more on niche, personalized approaches using social media rather than mass advertising.

Marketing for Startups: The Most Important QuestionSeth Cargiuolo
Many early-stage start-ups find themselves strapped for cash and focused on getting their product ready to ship, and don't always have the budget or time to devote to marketing. When they need to explain and pitch their product, service, and brand to customers, investors or potential hires, they tend to fall back on explaining the features and benefits - which is the wrong path to tread.
This deck accompanied a talk I gave to early-stage and funded start-ups about the importance of having a clear, compelling story to tell to customers, investors, and potential talent. I cover how "story" fits in to the marketing process, examples of how important the story is, the importance of emotional connection, and ways to begin assembling a marketing strategy.
The presentation was given at FShareX (Founders Share Exchange) in March, 2015 at a session entitled "Demystifying Marketing for Startups".
FShareX is a monthly meetup of start-ups where entrepreneurs share their stories and knowledge to help their firms and others succeed.

When it comes to marketing, it seems as if the traditional PR has always been pegged against its digitized equivalent. While many brands often wonder why they would need a digital PR firm if they already have a traditional PR agency the truth of the matter is that a digital PR agency has more capabilities to offer than the traditional PR agency, which goes far beyond the public relations approach of traditional PR firms.
