'Volumes are very low and the market is still searching for direction as is obvious from the volatility,' Jagannadham Thunuguntla, head of the capital markets arm of India's fourth largest share brokerage firm, the Delhi-based SMC Group, told IANS.
'For example, there is still no clarity as to what US president-elect Obama's stimulus package will be , no numbers have been given yet,' he said.
He, however, said that the statement by the US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi that bankruptcy of the big three US automobile makers was not an option was a bit of welcome news although the $34 billion bailout package that the car makers have asked from the US government seems too little.

Sensex shed 146 points to 15,728 points on market close
and Nifty ended 45 points lower at 4,705 points on NSE
in ahead of Futures and Options contract expiry

In sector wise, Banking and metal sectors were
witnessed nearly 2% selling pressure.
Bankers such as ICICI fell 3.88% and SBI was down 2%
Index movers RIL and ONGC tanked 2% and 1%
respectively.

Wednesday after crude futures trades have started to trade
above 100 dollar on the possibility of crunch in supply fear
The independent Director of HUL board, Deepakh Parekh has
relinquished his control over the company due to personal
reasons. Stocks down 0.97%.
Reliance Power has commissioned 300 Mega Watt unit of
Rosa Project at Uttar Pradesh. The company has planned to
execute the project at the capacity of 1,200 MW in various
phases.
Punj Llyod has secured an order worth Rs.1,050 crore from
GMR projects to lay six-lane road at Chittorgarh bypass to
Udaipur in Rajasthan.
Mauritian PE fund has bought 5.03% stake in Patni Computer
Services through open market transactions for Rs.5.04 crore.

Asian markets were closed on red note amid thin
volume of trade as traders were away from the
market on New Year and Christmas holidays.
European markets were trading higher on reports
that the Italian treasury bills fell sharply at a
November auction
WTI crude was trading around $100 per barrel during
the early trade in New York Mercantile Exchange.
Gold futures were trading $3 down at 41,593 an
ounce during the last trade in New York.
