I attended Glasgow Nautical College, on obtaining my O.N.C in Instrumentation,
Measurement & Control. I then transferred to Aberdeen College to complete my H.N.C in
Process Control. From college, Wood Group seconded me to BP Amoco North Everest to
complete my 2 year apprenticeship. I was employed as one of two instrument techs on shift.
3. Instrument Technician North Everest Platform (Oct 1998-SEP 2012)
Employed by BP and then BG-group on the North Everest Platformwhich produces gas&
condensate fromEverest field and exported via a bridge to the RiserPlatform, which distributesto the
CATS pipeline and Forties pipeline.
As shift instrument technician working in a small teamperforming routine & breakdown maintenance
on processing, gas compression, ESD,DCS and utility plant equipment.
I assisted with platformproduction operations under direction of the OTL (M), OTL (P) and CRO.
As the instrument technician on shift my responsibilities were to maintain safely & efficiently the
production, to keep the instrument maintenance backlogs to a minimum& maintain high plant
reliability. I amfamiliar with all aspects of instrumentation including pressure,flow, level, analysis &
temperature.I performed the Fire & Gas maintenance for the North Everest platform&
accommodation,and also assisted with the platformmetering tasks.
I was involved with variousNorth Everest platformcommissioning projects over the
years such as the South Everest project and the North Everest platforms midlife compression project
and halon removal project, I wasalso involved with the commissioning of two newwells drilled on
the North Everest platform T14, and T4z, in which I commissioned the instrumentation and controls.
I was also involved in a fire and gas upgrade on the North Everest platform, which entailed the
removal of old pellistor style gas detectorsand installing newinfra-red gas detectorsto comply with
PFEER standards.
I was an active member of the North Everest heli-Deck crew and fire teamand also involved with the
North Everest environmental green teamand aspire safety group.
Instrument technician BP Andrew Platform (Nov 2012-present)
Carry out Corrective and Preventative Maintenance routines as scheduled from the
Computerised Maintenance Management System.
*Perform breakdown maintenance activities as required and due to the small team on board,
close coordination of daily activities within maintenance and operations is a pre-requisite.
*Instrument involvement with topside works for the Kinnoull module subsea tie-back to the
platform. I have been involved with the Instrument Commissioning of the Kinnoull module
systems, that include the Fire & Gas systems providing Instrument support for Mechanical
Completion Tri party & System Handover Bi party walk downs. Executing Process Cause &
Effect testing & Control loop checking, fault finding from the field devices to Emerson Delta
V. I am fully conversant with system handover process and the use of QEDI Go Completions
database.
*Actively involved with BOSS (Behavioural Observation Safety System) conversations with
regards to personal attitudes, task and hazard awareness aspects on the platform.
*Completion of CMAS, BP’s Competence Assurance system.
*Daily use of ISSOW for Work Control Certificates (permits) and Isolation Control
Certificates including the building, countersigning and use of for personal work activities
and on behalf of vendor work scopes. Additions to their controls include associated COSHH
implications, Risk Assessments, Tool Box Talks and Dynamic Risk Assessment.
