This document discusses unemployment in agriculture and the resulting social marginalization. Approximately 35-40% of unemployed agricultural workers have little chance of reintegrating into the labor market. As a result, a subsistence farming culture developed in rural Slovakia to mitigate economic hardship. Marginalization in the labor market is characterized by long-term unemployment, repeated unemployment, and insecure, low-paying jobs. Social marginalization relates to groups on the margins of society and development. The economic consequences of unemployment include reduced social fund volumes, increased cyclical unemployment, lower taxes, and higher social benefits.
