Mapping of MARPs and strategic planning was conducted in Sri Lanka to estimate the size and distribution of key populations at high risk of HIV. The mapping identified over 1,900 female sex worker spots and 900 MSM spots across four districts. National estimates of 41,285 female sex workers and 32,796 MSM were then extrapolated. The data generated hotspot maps and will inform targeted HIV prevention by facilitating intervention planning, resource allocation, and monitoring and evaluation of coverage and impact.
ANNEX C_Presentation on Maternal Health focusing on NCR/Pasig City kukaii
The document discusses strategies to reduce maternal mortality rates in the Philippines. It proposes establishing a Regional Center for Maternal and Child Health Monitoring at the University of Makati to facilitate reliable data collection, ICT surveillance, training, and research. The Center would work closely with local health teams and hospitals to monitor pregnant women, ensure access to services, and review maternal and infant deaths. Establishing this Center could help accelerate progress towards reducing maternal mortality in the National Capital Region.

This document provides an analysis of the Polish media market in early 2012. It includes summaries of television viewing levels, revenues and expenditures for different media platforms. Overall, television consumption in January-February 2012 was slightly lower than the previous two years. However, revenues were up 3% over the same period in 2011, driven by growth in cinema and radio. The share of the largest TV channels continues to decline as thematic channels gain popularity. Internet advertising is growing the fastest but television remains the primary platform. The outlook calls for stagnation in the second half of 2012 after increases due to Euro 2012 in the spring.

This document discusses the economic impact of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in developing countries. It provides several key points:
1) NCDs negatively impact economic and human development by reducing life years, increasing poverty through high out-of-pocket healthcare costs, and decreasing productivity.
2) The social and economic costs of NCDs are high, including lost national income and productivity. For example, China is projected to lose over $550 billion in productivity from 2005-2015 due to NCDs.
3) Prevention and treatment of NCDs, especially at the primary care level, can be cost-effective and reduce the long-term burden on healthcare systems. Comprehen

The document summarizes global progress in reducing preventable child deaths. It notes that the global under-five mortality rate has fallen 41% from 1990 to 2011. However, sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia still account for the majority of under-five deaths. Half of global under-five deaths in 2010 occurred in just 5 countries: India, Nigeria, Democratic Republic of Congo, Pakistan, and China. While progress has been made in reducing deaths from preventable causes like pneumonia, diarrhea and malaria, more work is still needed to address disparities and strengthen community-based healthcare.

This document discusses sustainable financing options for HIV/AIDS in Kenya. It notes that over 80% of current HIV funding comes from external sources, but those sources are declining. To plan for predictable domestic funding, it recommends establishing a Sustainable HIV and AIDS Care Trust Fund. The Trust Fund would pool diverse domestic financing sources like taxes on airline tickets, mobile phone calls, and remittances. It would be governed by inclusive trustees and finance gaps in prevention, care, and treatment according to projections showing growing needs through 2020.
Caribbean HIV Conference. AIDS Spending PresentationAndy Fearon
The document discusses HIV expenditure tracking in the Caribbean region. It presents data on HIV spending trends in Trinidad and Tobago from 2002-2009, showing increases in total spending over time but uneven allocation to prevention versus treatment. Expenditure targeting key populations like MSM and sex workers was relatively low. Regional data on four countries is also presented, showing variations in HIV spending as a share of GDP and per capita across countries from 2008-2010.
1) Eliminating perinatal HIV transmission in the US is feasible but requires additional effort as the target population of HIV-infected women and exposed infants is increasing.
2) Key remaining challenges include reaching the hardest-to-reach women and addressing ongoing racial/ethnic disparities.
3) Elimination will require sustained annual efforts rather than a one-time accomplishment due to the growing numbers of women and infants at risk each year.
Germany faces challenges from an aging population and increasing rates of non-communicable diseases. Strategies to address this include expanding long-term care options, training more geriatric specialists, promoting lifelong learning and deferred retirement, strengthening prevention of infectious diseases, and shifting to individualized and multi-cause approaches in medicine. However, implementing personalized healthcare poses cost challenges that require country-specific solutions.
Radio and television remain the dominant media for reaching people, despite increased time spent with new media devices. While people are using more types of technology and media, they have not reduced their time with radio and TV. Radio and TV have the highest weekly reach among both younger and older adults in Portland, Oregon, exceeding other media like newspapers, internet, and cable. Radio and TV also dominate as media partners for people planning to buy or lease a new car, showing their continued importance.
Lecture: Final current needs on portfolio development Dr Ajith Karawita
The document discusses the purpose and contents of a professional portfolio. A professional portfolio is an organized collection of work samples, accomplishments, skills, experiences, and qualifications that demonstrates an individual's talents and abilities. It can be used to assess professional development, support career transitions, and showcase qualifications for potential employers or educational opportunities. When preparing a portfolio, individuals should consider including sections that highlight their personal information, values, goals, accomplishments, skills, education, references, and work samples along with reflective statements. The portfolio allows individuals to curate the best representation of themselves and their qualifications for different opportunities and audiences.

Measuring HIV stigma and discrimination in healthcare settingsDr Ajith Karawita
The study aimed to quantify the level of stigma among healthcare workers against people living with HIV in Sri Lanka. A survey of 832 healthcare workers from six major hospitals found stigma index scores ranging from 36-40, indicating significant levels of HIV-related stigma. Doctors and nurses had a median score of 39, while other medical staff such as technicians and attendants had slightly lower scores ranging from 36-38. These findings demonstrate that discriminatory attitudes towards people living with HIV are prevalent among healthcare workers in Sri Lanka, creating barriers to accessing HIV prevention, treatment, and support services.

There is increasing confidence that cell therapies will soon play a role in the treatment of autoimmune disorders, but the extent of this impact remains to be seen. Early readouts on autologous CAR-Ts in lupus are encouraging, but manufacturing and cost limitations are likely to restrict access to highly refractory patients. Allogeneic CAR-Ts have the potential to broaden access to earlier lines of treatment due to their inherent cost benefits, however they will need to demonstrate comparable or improved efficacy to established modalities.
In addition to infrastructure and capacity constraints, CAR-Ts face a very different risk-benefit dynamic in autoimmune compared to oncology, highlighting the need for tolerable therapies with low adverse event risk. CAR-NK and Treg-based therapies are also being developed in certain autoimmune disorders and may demonstrate favorable safety profiles. Several novel non-cell therapies such as bispecific antibodies, nanobodies, and RNAi drugs, may also offer future alternative competitive solutions with variable value propositions.
Widespread adoption of cell therapies will not only require strong efficacy and safety data, but also adapted pricing and access strategies. At oncology-based price points, CAR-Ts are unlikely to achieve broad market access in autoimmune disorders, with eligible patient populations that are potentially orders of magnitude greater than the number of currently addressable cancer patients. Developers have made strides towards reducing cell therapy COGS while improving manufacturing efficiency, but payors will inevitably restrict access until more sustainable pricing is achieved.
Despite these headwinds, industry leaders and investors remain confident that cell therapies are poised to address significant unmet need in patients suffering from autoimmune disorders. However, the extent of this impact on the treatment landscape remains to be seen, as the industry rapidly approaches an inflection point.

22. Mapping can generate
• Number and distribution of hotspots with its typology
• Size estimation of the population concerned according to the
– Geographical zones e.g. City/town, district
– Type of MARPs
– Sub-typologies of MARPs
• Size of population according to the pattern they operate
– On a usual day, on a peak day, what is the peak working
hours etc.
• Type of the spot according to the seeking risk or taking risk.
• Detail information on a profile of MARPs by variables of
interest.
23. Mapping can generate cont.
• Extrapolation and generation of district or national estimates by
the application of different model approaches i.e. Regression
model and percentile approaches.
• GIS maps with hot spots
• Has many more alternatives and adjustments to answer research
questions, or objectives of your project planning and
implementation.
24. National Estimates for Sri Lanka
National estimate for FSWs
41,285 (33,429 - 49,141)
National estimate for MSM
32,796 (25,677-39,915)
45. Before start interventions
1. Geographical area of interventions
– MOH areas

– Pradesiya sabhaUrban councilMunicipal councilElectorate
2. Population group
– Groups practicing high risk activities (FSW, MSM, STI clinic attendees etc)
3. Size of the target population (Denominator)
– This is the most difficult part – Most of MARPs are hidden and difficult to
reach
– Different size estimation methodologies can be used ( from simple head
counting to Mapping, Multiplier method, Capture-recapture method etc.)
4. Coverage in terms of geography and population
– This is easy once the denominators are established
46. General target for behaviour change
• 80% coverage of population leading to 60%
behaviour change can reverse of the epidemic
60% behaviour Lead to reverse the
80% coverage
change epidemic status
47. Use of mapping data for strategic planning
• Help in the understanding of the magnitude of the MARPs for
interventions.
• Provide information for advocacy and creating enabling
environment for TIs
• Provide information for planning of targeted interventions for
MARPs
• Provide size of population groups and typologies
• Provide denominators for monitoring and evaluation of TIs
• Monitoring of MARPs related indicators and at project
level, national level and international level.
• Help in the strengthening of HIV surveillance in a country
48. Use of mapping data for strategic planning
• Mapping data facilitate sampling of MARPs for surveys and
studies
• Provide information for the generation of HIV estimates by
modeling (EPP, Spectrum)
• Help in setting coverage for prevention interventions
• Resource mobilization
• Project proposal development and financial allocations
• Miro-planning of interventions for MARPs
49. Conclusion
• Number of FSWs and MSM is not easy
to estimate with precision since these
numbers are live and moving.
• However, these estimates are more
practical and useful denominators for
programme planning, monitoring and
evaluation of HIV prevention
interventions for MARPs.
