Mirza Asadullah Baig Khan, known by his pen name Mirza Ghalib, was a classical Urdu and Persian poet from India during British colonial rule. He wrote several famous ghazals throughout his life that have been interpreted in many different ways. Considered one of the most popular and influential poets of the Urdu language, Ghalib descended from a family of Turks who immigrated to India. He was born in Agra and later settled in Delhi, where he wrote extensively about the decline of the Mughal empire and rise of British rule in India.
