Although this Gospel is, by some among the learned, supposed to have been really written by Nicodemus, who became a disciple of Jesus Christ, and conversed with him; others conjecture that it was a forgery towards the close of the third century by some zealous believer, who observing that there had been appeals made by the Christians of the former age, to the Acts of Pilate, but that such Acts could not be produced, imagined it would be of service to Christianity to fabricate and publish this Gospel; as it would both confirm the Christians under persecution, and convince the Heathens of the truth of the Christian religion.
And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. 2. BAB 1
1 Di Babel tinggal seorang lelaki bernama Yoacim.
2 Dan dia mengambil seorang isteri, yang bernama
Susana, anak perempuan Khelkias, seorang wanita
Tuhan.
3 Ibu bapanya juga soleh, dan mengajar anak
perempuan mereka menurut hukum Musa.
kobar terhadapnya.
9 Dan mereka menyelewengkan fikiran mereka
sendiri, dan memalingkan mata mereka, agar mereka
tidak boleh memandang ke syurga, atau mengingati
penghakiman yang adil.
10 Dan walaupun mereka berdua terluka oleh
cintanya, namun tidak seorang pun berani
menunjukkan kesedihannya.
11 Kerana mereka malu untuk menyatakan nafsu
mereka, bahawa mereka ingin mempunyai hubungan
waktu makan malam.
14 Maka apabila mereka keluar, mereka memisahkan
mereka bertanya satu sama lain tentang sebabnya,
mereka mengakui nafsu mereka: kemudian mereka
menetapkan masa untuk berdua-duaan, apabila
mereka mungkin mendapati dia seorang diri.
kepadanya, sambil berkata,
20 Lihatlah, pintu-pintu taman tertutup, sehingga
sama kamu;
angan jahat terhadap Susanna untuk membunuhnya;
29 Dan berkata di hadapan orang banyak, Suruhlah
memanggil Susana, anak Khelkias, isteri Yoacim.
Maka mereka menghantar.
30 Maka dia datang bersama ayah dan ibunya, anak-
anaknya, dan semua sanak saudaranya.
31 Sekarang Susanna adalah seorang wanita yang
sangat halus, dan cantik untuk dilihat.
32 Dan orang-orang jahat ini memerintahkan untuk
membuka mukanya, (kerana dia bertudung) supaya
mereka boleh dipenuhi dengan kecantikannya.
33 Oleh itu, kawan-kawannya dan semua orang yang
melihatnya menangis.
keluar.
40 Tetapi setelah mengambil wanita ini, kami
bertanya siapakah pemuda itu, tetapi dia tidak
memberitahu kami: perkara ini kami bersaksi.
41 Maka jemaah itu percaya kepada mereka sebagai
ketua-ketua dan hakim-hakim rakyat, lalu mereka
menghukum dia sampai mati.
42 Kemudian Susana berseru dengan suara nyaring,
dan berkata, Wahai Tuhan yang kekal, yang
mengetahui rahsia-rahsia, dan mengetahui segala-
galanya sebelum ia menjadi!
bernama Daniel:
46 Yang berseru dengan suara nyaring, "Aku bebas
daripada darah perempuan ini."
47 Kemudian seluruh rakyat menoleh ke arahnya dan
berkata, Apakah maksud perkataan yang telah engkau
katakan ini?
48 Maka dia berdiri di tengah-tengah mereka berkata,
Adakah kamu begitu bodoh, hai anak-anak Israel,
sehingga tanpa pemeriksaan atau pengetahuan tentang
kebenaran kamu telah menghukum seorang anak
perempuan Israel?
49 Kembalilah ke tempat penghakiman, kerana
mereka telah memberikan kesaksian palsu terhadap
dia.
dan telah membebaskan orang yang bersalah;
aku, Di bawah pohon apakah kamu melihat mereka
berkumpul bersama-sama? Siapa menjawab, Di
bawah pokok mastick.
55 Dan Daniel berkata, Baiklah; engkau telah
berdusta terhadap kepalamu sendiri; kerana sekarang
pun malaikat Tuhan telah menerima hukuman Tuhan
untuk membelah engkau.
56 Maka dia menyisihkan dia, dan memerintahkan
untuk membawa yang lain, dan berkata kepadanya,
Wahai keturunan Kanaan, dan bukan Yehuda,
kecantikan telah menipu kamu, dan nafsu telah
menyesatkan hatimu.
57 Demikianlah kamu telah berbuat kepada anak-anak
perempuan Israel, dan mereka kerana takut berkawan
dengan kamu, tetapi anak perempuan Yehuda tidak
mahu tinggal dalam kejahatanmu.
58 Maka sekarang katakanlah kepadaku, Di bawah
pohon apakah engkau membawa mereka bersama-
sama? Siapa menjawab, Di bawah pokok holm.
59 Kemudian berkata Daniel kepadanya, Baik; kamu
juga telah berdusta terhadap kepalamu sendiri: kerana
Malaikat Allah menunggu dengan pedang untuk
membelah kamu, supaya dia membinasakan kamu.
membunuh mereka. Oleh itu darah yang tidak
bersalah telah diselamatkan pada hari yang sama.
63 Oleh itu, Khelkias dan isterinya memuji Tuhan
kerana Susana, anak perempuan mereka, bersama
suaminya, Yoacim, dan semua kaum kerabatnya,
kerana tidak terdapat kecurangan dalam dirinya.
64 Sejak hari itu dan seterusnya Daniel mempunyai
reputasi yang besar di mata orang ramai.
