The main functions of the supercharger and turbocharger are similar to supply some amount of air to the engine, but their working and construction are different. A supercharger attaches directly to the engine crankshaft and receives power to operate from the engine while a turbocharger receives power from exhaust gases to operate. Supercharger : It uses only compressor. Turbocharger : It uses both compressor and turbine Supercharger : They are connected to intake manifold. Turbocharger : Turbine is connected to exhaust manifold while compressor is connected to intake manifold Supercharger : Starts as soon as when engine starts. Turbocharger : It requires sufficient amount of exhaust gases. Supercharger : Less maintenance is required. Turbocharger : More maintenance is required. Supercharger : The overall temperature of supercharger is less so, less amount of lubricant is required. Turbocharger : The overall temperature of supercharger is more because of exhaust gases so, more amountof lubricant is required. Supercharger : It does not use intercooler.
