Interactive Learning through Hands-on Practice using Electronic Mini - Lab (E...Vikas Dongre
In this paper, a new approach to impart practical skill based technical education
is presented in comprehensive manner. An Electronic Mini-Lab (EML) is devised
containing basic design and test instruments with electronic components, ICs, connecting
wires and battery. Using the EML, students perform various formal and informal digital
and analog circuit practicals as well as design prototype of projects. This gives them a
hands-on experience, sense of belonging and sense of cooperation. The EML is useful for
performing many practicals of various subjects. The EML also reduces the workload of
college laboratories. Students have their own individual EML at their disposal anytime,
which can be used to design hobby projects as a fun too. This will make them skilled
engineers. This provides tremendous benefits in teaching learning process. It also boosted
the interest, confidence of students and teachers. Incorporating active/ cooperative learning
into traditional instruction can be a useful pedagogical tool to help students to perform
practicals and project work any time anywhere. This concept is remarkably simple and
cost effective but the dividends can be profound.
This study aims to determine the effect of the use of learning media Virtual Reality Laboratory (VR-Lab) on the conceptual understanding of Senior high school students on the concept of electrolytes and non-electrolytes. The learning media used were developed using models adapted from the ADDIE model, while the type of research as a whole uses this type of research, namely Quasy experiment with posttest only design. The instrument used in this study was a multiple choice question of 40 items. This research was conducted using 84 students consisting of the control class, experiment I, and experiment II. The analysis technique used one-way ANOVA. The results obtained in this study were that between the control class and experiment I class there were no significant differences with a mean of 44.91 and 45.67. Whereas for the experimental II class had a significant difference with the other two classes with an average of 68.66.

Technical Ambassador February-March, 2016
e-Prayog Virtual Labs (Electronics), IIT-Bombay, India
• As the technical ambassador of this MHRD initiative I was the head organizer
and technical lead of e-Prayog workshop at SOLVE, Virtual Labs at NITK. Af-
ter bringing together a team of 5 students we conducted a three day workshop
for first year engineering students teaching them the basics of embedded systems
and interfacing of Aurum (using PIC microcontroller) along with conducting
experiments on LEDs, LCDs and timers. Other than embedded systems we
provided an overview of a few analog and control concepts such as PLL and
oscillators along with a brief introduction to pragma codes and running inter-
rupts.
• The workshop was the first independent workshop conducted at NITK without
any club support and received very positive feedback from the participants. On
the completion of the workshop the boards were officially passed on to SOLVE,
NITK to be further used by students for projects. Selection was done based on
performance during previous internship at IIT-Bombay.
