The Maharashtra government initiated a project to set up a water quality testing laboratory funded by the World Bank. The laboratory in Pune will coordinate with 30 other labs being established across the state. Now, because of these new testing facilities, water quality will be compulsorily tested twice a year, including after monsoons when contamination is most likely. The labs will check water against 18 factors to assess quality.
