The Maharashtra government has initiated a project to set up water testing laboratories funded by the World Bank. The laboratories will test water quality based on 18 factors including concentrations of fluorides, chlorides, and potash. Currently, there are few water testing facilities in Maharashtra and only hospitals could test water which was insufficient for the state. The new laboratories will require water to be tested twice yearly, including after monsoons when contamination is most likely.
