FeaturesMagentoMagento is presently way ahead on the features that it is offering. Customer groups, product comparison, CMS are already there in Magento when it is only on the roadmap of Presta. Magento’s SEO features are again killer features. Magento’s design packages score over Presta’s other features.  Magento’s multi-store control is very powerful. Magento will do good to concentrate more on search and on other crucial features like affiliate system which are pretty important. PrestashopPrestoshop’s emphasis on search is impressive. The search on their frontend appears faster than magento and is based on score to bring in relevance of search. Presto people seem to have spent some time on this front knowing that search is perhaps one of the most important features of an ecommerce store. Some features that caught my eye were Alias Search. Manage an Alias Search list of anticipated search terms typed in by visitors. This could also be useful for linguistic differences between regions. For example, a search for appartment or apartement or apart* could still result in a hit for apartment, as could flat or lodging if the Alias Search list is set up that way. RSS feeds Some of Presta’s impressive features on the roadmap are Affiliate system (which is not on the roadmap of Magento) See detail feature list on word documents.ePagesContinually developing standard softwareInternational deploymentComprehensive marketing functions and sales potentialNot free but uncomplicated and testedFlexible scalability depending on budget and requirementsPrestashopvsePagesvsMagentowww.bysoft.fr
PrestashopvsMagentoUpgrading to newer releaseMagentoPEAR upgrade path. But as I see in the forums, even the upgrade does seem to cause some concerns like the installation. A manual upgrade path for Non-PEAR users is still hazy in Magento. Magento’s customization strategy relies on the wonderful OOP concept of subclasses and method overriding. And this is immensely useful in keeping the customizations away from Magento’s main releases. Magento also offers an event model with events raised at various places in flow. Handlind these events for our customizations will again be useful in uptake of future versions.PrestashopUnclear on their upgrade strategy. More importantly the upgrade impact on existing customizations is unsure in Presto. ePagesThere is no upgrading function at the testing version in back-officewww.bysoft.fr
PrestashopvsMagentoCode & ArchitectureMagentoObsessively Object Oriented. But as a person customizing the site, this helps a lot and once you learn the basics, the world is the limit to what you can do with Magento. Magento is based on Zend Framework.Magento is based on some sound design patterns like Front Controller and separates design from logic.PrestashopObject Oriented to an extent. The core modules and entities are object oriented. And customizations on the non-OOP portions might make it ugly.  ePagesNot enough information.www.bysoft.fr
Design flexibilityMagentoMagento’s design system seems to be well thought of and very powerful, but it has more questions to consider. It is not so simple.PrestashopPrestashop uses a smarty template system and Javascript Based on JQuery The complete OOP coding offers a lot of flexibility.ePages There are lots of themes provided by the official site. No need to use html or css code, users can edit the template with Visual Graphic User Interface in back-office directly Users can edit the template with Visual Graphic User Interface in back-office directly.PrestashopvsePagesvsMagentowww.bysoft.fr
Plugs and Professional SupportAs you known Prestashop is a newer fresh program, it not so long time as Magento, so the plug and community and also professional support are no so well as Magento. ePages : it seems to be no plugs provided, however,On the part of professional support, ePages promised:Product training: We transfer all the necessary knowledge to your team.Technical consulting: We advise, support and help you with the implementation of your system.Marketing: We support your product launch and marketing.Support: We are available to you at all times if you have questions or problems.Customer care package: We support, activate and analyse your customers.Application management: We care for and maintain your platform.System hosting: We set-up and manage your platform in the ePages computing centre.Shop and website design: We support rental customers with the setup of their shops and ePages-based websites. PrestashopAdvantagesUsers can modify languages directly in back-office, such as French and Chinese.Prestashop has less pages to integrate, so takes less time to develop. (see design integration assessment document)Better user interface in back-office. Module oriented - very straight forward and easy to learn.Template system is earlier to learn (similar to Joomla).DisadvantagesPayments methods of Prestashop are not as many as Magento, especially Chinese payments. Can’t manage multi-websites and stores in one office.Fairly new, so less resources and supports in this moment.www.bysoft.fr Advantages and disadvantages compare to Magento

Editor's Notes

  • #14 Currently, we don’t get the REAL requirements from clients andintegrate all the features(product types and modules) that Magento originally has.The features of Magento are way too many for individual client, because there are so many features that clients will never use it.so clients won’t appreciate we give them all the features. Moreover, the back-office become confused to use, because it’s not suitable for client’s need. Most important thing is, the development time can’t reduce and the cost is always high.
  • #15 So, for the future projects,if we can get what the clients really need and written down the REAL requirements from client on specification, then we can shorten the development time (at least 3 days) by disable some features, and provides a real suitable tailor made functionalities for them. Moreover, if clients want to add new functions in the future, we can charge them for new developments. In sort, to get the REAL requirements from clients,we will increase the customer satisfaction, reduce the overall cost, and eventually increase the revenue!
