2. Magar Community
• Magars are one of the oldest known tribe of
Nepal
• Their kingdom was one of the strongest of
west Nepal in and around Palpa District during
the time of the 22 and 24 rajya principalities
(17th and early 18th centuries)
• Magar is the third largest ethnic/caste groups
in Nepal as per the 2011 Census
3. Magar House Construction
• Most Magar Houses have One or two stories;
a few have three. Despite variation in size and
shape, the method of construction and basic
layout are much the same
• Walls are built up using stones and mud
mortar and they are plastered with mud
• The final coat that is applied dries to a warm
reddish orange. Roofs are thatched
4. • All houses have verandas, Interior ground

• A notched pole ladder leads from flanking
room to the upper floor where clothing and
valuables are stored in boxes and grain is
stored in circular bins made of woven bamboo
