Lyric Analysis
Jamie T – If you got the money
• If you've got the money
I think it would be funny-oh-oh-oh
To take your girl, spend a bit of your cash for
me!!
(I've been watching you)
'Cause then she might be happy
No longer lonely-oh-oh-oh
An' I could take her out the next day for
pretty much free!!
• This verse is talking about how the singer is
going to take another mans girl out to
satisfy her because she isn’t enjoying herself.
• Saying she is going to enjoy herself with
another person rather than feeling like she
isn’t even with her partner.
• The whole money reference is saying how
Jamie could take the girl out and not even
spend any money because anything would be
better than with the guy she is currently
with.
• An' all the boys they go
Da-dee-doo-da-da-dee-da-doo-dah
Dom-dom-de-de-dom-dom
Dom-da-dee-doo-da-da-dom
Da-dee-doo-da-dee-da-doo-dah
Dom-dom-de-de-dom-dom
Dom-da-dee-doo-da-da-dom
I spend late nights trying to pick up love
Off the floor, where the other brothers leave
it be
Though it's stuck down hard it's like
chewing gum
While I gurn on the floor I sing my R.I.P.
'Cause the song birds don't do singing on
pavements
No sweet melody the sound of spit
Spat, or bit, spoke of lost hopes
So do what you're told man choke on it
• This little singing bit shows how the men in
the world are just going out without a care in
the world. They will be enjoying themselves
and sing along.
• The picking up love refers to trying to pick up
girls on a night out. The part that says ‘where
the other brothers leave it be’ could mean that
the other boys don’t see that girl as attractive
and don’t go after her, or they are enjoying
themselves too much to care about picking up
girls or even putting in an effort they are just
out to have a laugh with their mates.
• This is obviously proven difficult as he
compares it to picking up chewing gum and
that its stuck down hard.
• The gurning is referring to what happened
when you take hard drugs. It is when you grind
your jaw and don’t really know what is going
on. The RIP is referring to how he feels near to
death and the song birds are the girls. They
aren’t going to come and sing and say nice
things to him when he is on drugs on the floor.
• People will just ignore his as he walks past and
this not offer him any help.
• We be near heaven at a quarter to eleven
By three we are thinking of the love we lost
By four we be high, thinking of the girl lost
second
Check the odds, was it worth the cost?
Do you give a toss?
Or are you, looking away?
Wondering why you can't eat?
Why you never sleep?
Drunk all the time?
Cold in the heat?
What you sow man is what you reap
• He will be high on drugs at 11
• Then be on a massive come down and
thinking of the girls he has lost and is not
with anymore
• They took more drugs to get high again and
avoid the crashing feeling. Was it worth the
cost to loose her to the drugs that he was
spending his time on rather than her.
• He thinks again does he care? But deep
down he cant sleep, eat and is always drunk
to take his mind off of it.
• What you do will eventually come back to
you, karma.
• (chorus)
• You were always meant to walk out that job
You keep stopping
Should tell your girl more often
That loving is all about doors unlocking
Now you're certain ‘nuff near a man free
With a buddy holly hiccup on a karaoke
Tweedle on the needle, man you adjust the
thread
Great granddaddy fought in Gallipoli
The only of his friends not shot down dead
• You always say things but you never follow
through with it.
• He doesn’t spend enough time with his
girlfriend and she is either leaving him or
already left.
• Man free - he is single again
• He has gone out with his mates and back on
the karaoke
• He is a man alone now. Now one is standing
by him now.
• Lovers all talk in the spits and tongues
Fight in the playground
Bully each other
Double dare kids that pollute their lungs
Threaten with the rep of their big boy
brother
Some of us stay, want to run away
Momma still wants you home for supper
Work all day, little to no pay
Dance up-town right down to the gutter
• Even lovers argue
• The behaviour is childish on the males
behalf and he is acting like a school child.
• Dareing children to smoke, shows how young
the children start to go for cheap thrills.
• Mum still wants you home early, shows how
young they are
• He works a rubbish job to get bad pay and
then goes and wastes it all on the weekend
on alcohol, drugs and cheap thrills to end in
the gutter by the end of the night.
