The PhD as Quest: A modest proposal for a new metaphor of doctoral education Alistair McCulloch
This presentation shows how the idea of the quest is a better metaphor for doctoral education or doing a PhD than the most frequently used metaphor, the journey. A journey implies a linear process without necessarily any struggle. A quest implies a long journey in search of a precious object, a hero, a test or series of tests, guardians of the object and helpers. Ultimately, however, it is the hero who must win the PhD. The presentation was originally presented at the 4th International Conference on Postgraduate Supervision, held at Stellenbosch, South Africa in April 2013, and has since been published in full as A McCulloch (2013). Are you passionate about the law and crime prevention? Are you curious to know how punishment and prison work? If your answer is yes, then a degree in criminal justice is a great option for you. But it is very important for you to know how you can get admission to good criminal justice schools, and which are the good criminal justice schools in USA?
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!
In today’s article, we’ll review criminal justice schools as a discipline, why people choose to earn certifications in this field, and how you can identify the best criminal justice schools in the world, both physically and online. Then we will also give you a list of the top 10 criminal justice schools in the world.
What is criminal justice?
Criminal justice is the administration of justice to those who have committed crimes. The criminal justice system is a series of government agencies and institutions. Objectives include rehabilitation of offenders, prevention of other crimes, and moral support of victims.
The main institutions of the criminal justice system are the police, prosecution and defense lawyers, courts, and prisons.
What do you need to know about criminal justice schools?
You can easily search for criminal justice schools in a specific area of the United States with the methods we’ve described. Use the websites of all criminal justice schools. Simply enter the zip code for a list of schools that hold a criminal justice degree. Alternatively, you can locate criminal justice schools by the state in criminal justice degree schools.
Criminal justice schools generally offer a variety of criminal justice certificates, which may include certificates/diplomas, associate degrees, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in criminal justice or any related field.
Why choose a criminal justice school?
Most people choose to enroll in criminal justice schools not only to become familiar with the criminal justice system but to find jobs that use the knowledge and skills gained in their curriculum. Today, there has been an increase in the number of people serving prison sentences for property and violent crimes, even during periods of low crime rates. And with the huge increase in crime, in fact, it is necessary to study criminology.
Now, earning a criminal justice degree can land you some of the most exciting jobs in the criminal justice field (it doesn’t limit you to a career as a police officer or FBI special agent). Regardless, the reasons you want to pursue a criminal justice degree should be important.
Basically, a criminal justice degree can help prepare you for any of the following jobs:
Sheriff
CIA agent
prison officer
Crime scene investigator
DEA agent
FBI agent
Fraud investigator
The police officer
Private detective
Parole officer
Secret service agent
Security guard
State Police
Although many of these jobs only require a high school diploma, obtaining a college or bachelor’s degree in criminal justice can help you stand out from

An Exploration of Two Prospective Careers
Researching prospective career options isn't just a useful way to learn about various careers, it's
also a great way to learn about one's self and to determine one's strengths and weaknesses in pursuits of a
long term investment in the job stratosphere. There are many career guidance applications available that
measure individual’s personalities, skill aptitudes and weaknesses and interests, in order to pair individuals
with careers suited to one's basic personality type. The two careers that I've chosen to explore fit with in
my basic personality type indicator. These careers are photography and cultural anthropology. According
the Holland Code's aptitude assessment, I'm strongly suited for artistic, investigative, realistic and social
endeavors. I'm least suited for conventional jobs (i.e. office jobs, retail, investment banking, etc…). I used
the career code assessment as a tool to determine which professional careers I wanted to explore.
Becoming a professional photographer has interested me since I was a child. Photographers mix
art and science to create emotional images. Photography is an extremely competitive and ever-changing
field. The rapid advancements of photographic technology demand that professional photographers learn
the new technologies and find ways to make their work stand out from the rest. Photography education
is available from workshops to degree programs. Many colleges, universities and vocation schools offer
two- and four-year photography degrees. Many photographers continue training by assisting other
photographers. Becoming a photography assistant can reinforce and further technical training as well
provide an opportunity to learn the business aspect of the profession.
The United States Bureau of Labor and Statistics warns that falling prices of professional
photography equipment and the popularity of the medium has increased the competition dramatically.
Many companies purchase less expensive images from amateur photographers or opt to make their own
images for advertising. News photography is also affected by amateur shutterbugs. The rise of amateur
street photography and non-copyright images means that news publications that still exist, don’t have to
pay for images if they don’t want to. The estimated median income of photographers as of May 2008 is
$29,440. It seems that this number will go down as digital camera prices fall and magazines become obsolete.
On the other hand, anthropologists are expected to be in demand in the coming years and the
average earnings are much higher than photographers’ wages. Anthropology is a social science that
studies the origins, behavior and brain of humans. Cultural anthropologists are interested in customs and

Television news channels supposedly conduct research in the form of viewer polls on topics of public interest such as forthcoming elections or government-funded projects. Polygraph testing involves the use of an instrument which detects and measures some of the physiological changes that take place in the human body when a person lies. These tests are particularly prevalent in the retail industry.Polygraph tests are used frequently in many fields, such as law enforcement, national security, and private investigations. The exam is typically broken down into four phases: the initial interrogation and pre-test phase, the in-test (polygraph exam), and the post-test phase. The primary purpose of the polygraph test in security screening is to identify individuals who present serious threats to national security. To put this in the language of diagnostic testing, the goal is to reduce to a minimum the number of false negative cases (serious security risks who pass the diagnostic screen).

Acute scrotum is a general term referring to an emergency condition affecting the contents or the wall of the scrotum.
There are a number of conditions that present acutely, predominantly with pain and/or swelling
A careful and detailed history and examination, and in some cases, investigations allow differentiation between these diagnoses. A prompt diagnosis is essential as the patient may require urgent surgical intervention
Testicular torsion refers to twisting of the spermatic cord, causing ischaemia of the testicle.
Testicular torsion results from inadequate fixation of the testis to the tunica vaginalis producing ischemia from reduced arterial inflow and venous outflow obstruction.
The prevalence of testicular torsion in adult patients hospitalized with acute scrotal pain is approximately 25 to 50 percent
Flu Vaccine Alert in Bangalore Karnatakaaddon Scans
As flu season approaches, health officials in Bangalore, Karnataka, are urging residents to get their flu vaccinations. The seasonal flu, while common, can lead to severe health complications, particularly for vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and those with underlying health conditions.
Dr. Vidisha Kumari, a leading epidemiologist in Bangalore, emphasizes the importance of getting vaccinated. "The flu vaccine is our best defense against the influenza virus. It not only protects individuals but also helps prevent the spread of the virus in our communities," he says.
This year, the flu season is expected to coincide with a potential increase in other respiratory illnesses. The Karnataka Health Department has launched an awareness campaign highlighting the significance of flu vaccinations. They have set up multiple vaccination centers across Bangalore, making it convenient for residents to receive their shots.
To encourage widespread vaccination, the government is also collaborating with local schools, workplaces, and community centers to facilitate vaccination drives. Special attention is being given to ensuring that the vaccine is accessible to all, including marginalized communities who may have limited access to healthcare.
Residents are reminded that the flu vaccine is safe and effective. Common side effects are mild and may include soreness at the injection site, mild fever, or muscle aches. These side effects are generally short-lived and far less severe than the flu itself.
Healthcare providers are also stressing the importance of continuing COVID-19 precautions. Wearing masks, practicing good hand hygiene, and maintaining social distancing are still crucial, especially in crowded places.
Protect yourself and your loved ones by getting vaccinated. Together, we can help keep Bangalore healthy and safe this flu season. For more information on vaccination centers and schedules, residents can visit the Karnataka Health Department’s official website or follow their social media pages.
Stay informed, stay safe, and get your flu shot today!
