IM in the Library: Using Trillian and Meebo to serve patrons instantly.
Presented by Rebecca Blakeley (aka Rebecca Troy-Horton was my maiden name) and Jessica Hutchings at the 2007 LOUIS Users Conference.
The document discusses mobile instant messaging and proposes an approach to simplify it for both customers and operators. It suggests implementing an IP messaging platform that fully interworks with SMS and allows conversations without presence as a prerequisite. This would provide a more conversational experience than SMS while aligning with natural customer behaviors. Presence is seen as less important than expression in mobile. The goal is a "text just got better" service to avoid fragmentation and drive adoption of richer messaging.
Instant messaging (IM) is a form of real-time communication between two or more people using typed text over the internet. Surveys show that 42% of internet users use IM, with 36% using it daily. IM is most popular among younger age groups. Libraries are increasingly offering IM reference services to attract young patrons and communicate with users and staff. The document discusses trends in IM usage and provides recommendations for libraries to consider IM outreach.

The document provides information about web browsers, email, and how they work. It discusses:
- How web browsers connect to web servers to access web pages coded in HTML and display them, with hyperlinks allowing navigation between pages.
- The basics of email, how it works by sending messages between users through email servers, and some common functions like compose, reply, forward, and attach files.
- Two common ways for users to access their email - through a webmail interface or by using email software like Outlook Express to download messages from the server to their computer.
The document provides an agenda and objectives for a computer workshop. It outlines that students will introduce themselves, attend all workshops, be respectful of others, and take responsibility for their grades. The content objectives are to learn about computer components, systems, history, operating systems, and communication standards. Language objectives are to read, write and discuss technical topics in English, and enhance vocabulary. The agenda includes reviewing online platforms, forming groups, addressing questions, defining computer terms, and discussing digital portfolios. The workshop aims to teach foundational computer knowledge and skills in English.
Instant messaging (IM) allows users to have real-time conversations over the internet. It provides a more casual and informal communication channel compared to email. Popular IM services include Yahoo, AOL, and MSN Messenger. While IM conversations are more spontaneous than email, security risks are similar and users should avoid sharing sensitive personal information. Compatibility between different IM services can be improved through aggregator software that integrates multiple accounts into one interface.
The document describes Snapmail, a project that allows users to send emails with large attachments by separating the attachment from the email body. The attachment is saved on the user's private cloud (Media@Home box) and replaced with a link in the email. Recipients can then view and download the attachment through the link. Snapmail integrates with an existing social media platform called Media@Home that allows users to store and share media files on their personal cloud box. Snapmail acts as an add-on that links emails to a user's Media@Home account, automatically uploading attachments to their box and replacing it with a link.

You retain ownership of the system and data, while we manage the ABAP 7.58 infrastructure, ensuring fixed Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and exceptional services through the SAP Fiori interface.
Generating privacy-protected synthetic data using Secludy and MilvusZilliz
During this demo, the founders of Secludy will demonstrate how their system utilizes Milvus to store and manipulate embeddings for generating privacy-protected synthetic data. Their approach not only maintains the confidentiality of the original data but also enhances the utility and scalability of LLMs under privacy constraints. Attendees, including machine learning engineers, data scientists, and data managers, will witness first-hand how Secludy's integration with Milvus empowers organizations to harness the power of LLMs securely and efficiently.
In the rapidly evolving landscape of technologies, XML continues to play a vital role in structuring, storing, and transporting data across diverse systems. The recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) present new methodologies for enhancing XML development workflows, introducing efficiency, automation, and intelligent capabilities. This presentation will outline the scope and perspective of utilizing AI in XML development. The potential benefits and the possible pitfalls will be highlighted, providing a balanced view of the subject.
We will explore the capabilities of AI in understanding XML markup languages and autonomously creating structured XML content. Additionally, we will examine the capacity of AI to enrich plain text with appropriate XML markup. Practical examples and methodological guidelines will be provided to elucidate how AI can be effectively prompted to interpret and generate accurate XML markup.
Further emphasis will be placed on the role of AI in developing XSLT, or schemas such as XSD and Schematron. We will address the techniques and strategies adopted to create prompts for generating code, explaining code, or refactoring the code, and the results achieved.
The discussion will extend to how AI can be used to transform XML content. In particular, the focus will be on the use of AI XPath extension functions in XSLT, Schematron, Schematron Quick Fixes, or for XML content refactoring.
The presentation aims to deliver a comprehensive overview of AI usage in XML development, providing attendees with the necessary knowledge to make informed decisions. Whether you’re at the early stages of adopting AI or considering integrating it in advanced XML development, this presentation will cover all levels of expertise.
By highlighting the potential advantages and challenges of integrating AI with XML development tools and languages, the presentation seeks to inspire thoughtful conversation around the future of XML development. We’ll not only delve into the technical aspects of AI-powered XML development but also discuss practical implications and possible future directions.
