1. LSC SOCCER
Midwestern State and Texas A&M-Commerce started Lone Star Conference ac on 2-0 to top the standings
with six points each. League play rolls on this week with one contest Wednesday and three on both Friday
and Sunday.
The women’s teams are 24-20-5 overall this season. The squads are currently 8-8-4 combined versus
Rocky Mountain Athle c Conference teams, and 3-2 against the Heartland Conference, which are the other
conferences in the NCAA South Central Region.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Savannah Grasser, Texas A&M University - Commerce, SR, F, Mabank, Texas, Mabank HS
Grasser scored three of the Lions’ four goals as A&M-Commerce defeated Eastern New Mexico and West Texas
A&M 2-0 in the first LSC matches of the season... The Lions moved up to No. 11 na onally on the strength of
their wins... Grasser scored the insurance goal from 23 yards out in the ENMU win on Friday night... She scored
both goals in the win over WT, scoring from the penalty spot for the opener, and sealing the win on a header to
the back post a er a corner kick... She ranks second in the league in points for the full season... The Lions have
won four straight matches with three shutouts...
DEFENSIVE
Courtney Burne e, Midwestern State University, JR, Irving, Texas, Goalkeeper, MacArthur HS
Burne e extended her shutout streak to 365:27 as Midwestern State blanked its fourth-straight opponent in
an undefeated weekend to begin Lone Star Conference play. Burne e matched a career-best 12 saves in a 1-0
win at Angelo State, the first for the Mustangs since the 2013 season. Burne e also added another shutout in a
1-0 win over UT Permian Basin to help the Mustangs to their fi h-straight victory while star ng LSC play at 2-0
for the first me since 2010. The Irving na ve now has five shutouts on the season (.625 per game) to lead the
LSC and rank 18th in NCAA Division II. She also tops the LSC with a .889 save percentage (20th na onally) and
ranks second with a .592 goals against average (27th na onally).
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Khadidra Debese e, West Texas A&M University, scored two goals in the Lady Buffs 2-1 victory over Texas
Woman’s on Friday night. The sophomore midfielder now has five career game-winning goals including two this
season.
Tori Hendrickson, Eastern New Mexico University, aggressive play in Eastern’s 2-0 win over Texas Woman’s
University resulted in a first-half penalty kick. She connected on that penalty kick for the second game-winning
goal of her career. It also marked the first me ENMU ne ed a game-winning goal on a penalty kick since a 1-0
win over West Texas A&M in 2014.
Adrianna Smith, Midwestern State University, ne ed her first career goal to carry Midwestern State to its
fi h-straight win last weekend at UT Permian Basin. Smith broke a scoreless contest in the 78th minute with
a shot from 25 yards out in MSU’s 1-0 win over the Falcons. The Mesquite na ve also played a part in MSU’s
game-winning goal against Angelo State on Friday as the Mustangs recorded their first goal and win against the
Rambelles since the 2013 season.
Demi Tsambasis, Angelo State University, extended her hot start into conference play, scoring a goal less
than 30 minutes into the Belles’ Lone Star Conference opener against UTPB. The goal was the seventh of the
year for the California na ve, which ranks 17th in the na on and first in the LSC. Tsambasis got off five total
shots against the Falcons, including three on goal which led the team. She also led the team in shots in Friday’s
matchup with Midwestern State, crea ng seven scoring chances in the game. One of her shots against the
Mustangs was on goal and just missed scoring on it as the ball hit the post. Seven goals also sets a new high for
Tsambasis, already breaking her single-season total of six last year.
Delaney Bunselmeyer, Texas A&M University - Commerce, played all 180 minutes at center back for the
Lions’ 2-0 wins over Eastern New Mexico and West Texas A&M... The Lions have shut out their last three
opponents... ENMU took only four shots (two on goal) and WT took only nine shots (three on goal)...
Marissa Torres, Eastern New Mexico University, turned in a strong week for the Greyhounds, with a .900 save
percentage and 1.00 goals-against average over two matches. She made 10 saves in a setback at Texas A&M-
Commerce, and eight more in a victory over Texas Woman’s. The win over TWU marked the second shutout of
the season for Torres.
Courtney Dippel, West Texas A&M University, made a season-high six saves in the Lady Buffs 2-1 victory over
Texas Woman’s on Friday night. She also played well making three saves in a 2-0 loss to na onally ranked Texas
A&M-Commerce on Monday.
Ashley Exford, Angelo State University, led ASU back line to two more strong performances at home. The
senior defender helped the Belles to allow only one goal over both matches, and neither opponent was able
to get off more than ten shots in a match. Against UTPB, the Falcons were held to only six shots overall with
only one coming on goal. On Friday, the Belles kept it close again by allowing only five shots on goal and seven
overall. The goal the ASU defense gave up to the Mustangs Friday broke a shutout streak of 373 minutes at
home this season.

Angelo State
Went 1-1 last week against UTPB and Midwestern State... Gave up first home goal of the season against MSU,
breaking scoreless streak of 273 minutes... Have only allowed four goals this season... Forward Demi Tsambasis
scored her seventh goal of the season, breaking her season total from last year... Freshman GK Sammy Cude
got the win and the loss, making her 4-2-1 on the season.
Eastern New Mexico
The Eastern New Mexico University women’s soccer team split a pair of Lone Star Conference matches last
week. A er a 2-0 loss at Texas A&M-Commerce, the Hounds had to play two days later on the same field.
The result was ENMU’s first neutral-site win over Texas Woman’s. Tori Hendrickson ne ed the second game-
winning goal of her career, on Eastern’s first game-winning penalty kick since the 2014 season. Marissa Torres
was strong in net, with a .900 save percentage and her second shutout of the season. This week, ENMU will
host University of Texas of the Permian Basin and Angelo State.
Midwestern State
Midwestern State pushed its winning streak to five games last weekend as the Mustangs began Lone Star
Conference play with a 2-0 record on the road with wins over Angelo State and UT Permian Basin. The Mustangs
came out on top over the Rambelles behind Des nee Williamson’s goal in the 83rd minute, breaking a 502:04
scoreless streak against ASU that dated back to Nov. 1, 2013. The Mustangs followed with a 1-0 triumph over
UT Permian Basin with a goal from Adrianna Smith to push their win streak to five games for the first me since
2013 and start LSC play at 2-0 for the first me since the 2010 campaign. On Tuesday, Midwestern cracked the
top 25 of the NSCAA poll at No. 24 for its first na onal ranking since Sept. 13, 2011. The Mustangs sit at 5-1-2
with four-straight shutouts and five in the last six ou ngs. Midwestern State hosts Texas Woman’s and No. 11
Texas A&M-Commerce this weekend at MSU Soccer Field.
Texas A&M-Commerce
The Texas A&M-Commerce Lions soccer team played two matches last week, earning 2-0 shutout victories
at home over Eastern New Mexico and West Texas A&M… The Lions were ranked 15th last week and were
announced as the 11th ranked team in the na on on Tuesday… The Lions are ed atop the conference standings
with 6 points and a 5-2-0 overall record… In the Friday win over Eastern New Mexico, the Lions launched 31
shots… Anitra Wright scored her second goal of the season in the 32nd minute on a long distance shot from
the le side… Savannah Grasser scored her third goal of the season in the 41st minute from 23 yards out… The
Lions and WT started play on Sunday, but the match was ruled no contest due to lightning and rescheduled for
Monday… Grasser scored both goals in the second half for the Lion win… Sophie Haywood earned a penalty
kick in the 58th minute that Grasser slammed home… Grasser then headed her fi h goal of the season in off of
assists from Michelle Kotlik and Vicky Back in the 77th minute… Caitlin Duty picked up both shutouts… Grasser
ranks second in the league in points and points per game… The Lions head to Denton to play Texas Woman’s at
7 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a 2 p.m. Sunday match at newly ranked Midwestern State…

TWU dropped a pair of close contests last week, losing 2-1 to West Texas A&M and 2-0 to Eastern New Mexico.

The Lady Buffs sit 1-1 a er the first weekend of conference play a er defea ng Texas Woman’s on Friday before
falling to Texas A&M-Commerce 2-0 on Monday. Sophomore midfielder Khadidra Debese e recorded her
second career mul ple goal match in the 2-1 victory over TWU. Junior Katelyn Taschler assisted on Debese e’s
first goal for her second assist of the season. The Lady Buffs struggled to find any offense against A&M-C before
allowing two second half goals in a 2-0 loss.
