’Pardon the Interruption’: Future of Work Hot TopicsLetsConnect
Join us in a session designed to cover a myriad of different topics around the nature … and future of work. In the fashion of ESPN’s “Pardon the Interruption” we’ll share ideas and opinions on a list of topics that you have a chance to influence ahead of the session. Tweet your topic suggestion or question to #PTIFoW and we’ll include as many as possible in the time allowed. The pace will be quick and the conversations and interactions will be lively and passionate (and a bit opinionated, too!). This is a “don’t miss” session for anyone wanting to be a part of a Future of Work brain dump!
Viral Adoption of Connections via Activities - Increase User Productivity and...LetsConnect
Join IBM Champion Adam Brown to learn how to create viral adoption of IBM Connections Activities with Kudos Boards. Increasing the usage of Activities can introduce new users to Connections with a clear purpose and goal. They can have that "ah ha!" moment and understand why they should get involved in this new social platform! However the challenge is that users can struggle with the interface of Activities and gaining widespread adoption takes time. Organisations such as Dutch Tax Office, PepsiCo, Mizuno USA, Salvation Army, and many others, have overcome this challenge using Kudos Boards for Connections Activities. INCREASED USER PRODUCTIVITY AND HENCE ADOPTION, THRU CLEVER DESIGN. Get real work done and learn how to sort and manage your projects in a PERSONALISED way so you can focus on what is important to you. Organise My Current Tasks….or leverage Agile Kanban to mange your project teams. And now you can even make Activities ROCK on your Mobile Devices!!!
Herding Presidents (and others) to the Promised LandLetsConnect
In this case study, we’ll cover how a religious institution used IBM Connections to revolutionize how collaboration works within the non-profit. The initial group of users were hiring a new leader and 5 of the 15 users were current or past presidents of the organization. All of the users were influential in their professional lives and through persistence with patience, learned to embrace the IBM technology. The organization now uses it for many groups of users and the original group are internal evangelists, understanding the value of memorialized, searchable historical content along with current discussions. The case study will include how the software is licensed in an affordable way and managed by lay leaders along with internal staff.
Recently we moved and downsized from a large North American urban area to a smaller house in the country. We also downsized the infrastructure of our corporation. Thanks to Cloud, Social and Collaborative technologies, acquaintances in our new locale think we are retired and not working full time.
In our area there is a high concentration of government and other traditional corporate workers – It’s not on their radar that one can work in a cabana on a beach, on a sailboat on a lake, a favorite pub or anywhere like that and still be in the office attending meetings, taking phone calls, being productive and doing it all efficiently. Not to mention the cost savings to be had for employees and employers. This is the Future of Work.
For those of us in the IT world, working this way is taken for granted but now it’s time to share some of these “secrets” with those outside of the tech world.
IBM Connections Troubleshooting or “Get the Cow off the Ice” LetsConnect
You are an IBM Connections admin and you would like to know how to fix your problems and open tickets?
We will talk about some troubleshooting basics and other useful things to ensure that you have enough skills to get your Connections running smoothly.
There are many areas where you need different debugging skills. We will cover backend like DB2, TDI, SSO and some IBM integrations like Docs, CCM, Cognos or Forms Experience Builder. Of course we will cover Connections itself, too.
You will also get some helpful best practises which will help you within your daily work.

Soccnx10 Man versus Machine – A Story About Embracing Innovation Femke Goedhart
Presentation as given on June 7th in Toronto by Francie Tanner & Femke Goedhart:
Technology and innovation impacts every industry, line of business and profession in ways we could not imagine even 50 years ago. While IT is meant to make things more efficient, the pace of IT evolution makes it hard to think of the future as being “easier”. History shows that companies which are unable to innovate are driven out of the market, which leaves adoption as a central key to dealing with that new social platform, CRM and other innovation. But how do you get people to embrace change? Some people claim that adoption is a purely human affair where it’s all about people, while others believe that adoption should be technology driven and enforced in an automated way. Join Femke Goedhart and Francie Tanner and learn all about adoption tools, methods and strategies that will help you make any new deployment a measurable success.
Social collaboration technologies are all the rage, and let's face it -- the #newwaytowork is pretty cool and bleeding-edge. But every tool can be misused, overused, and abused -- and IBM Connections is no different! In this spotlight session we will bring you our deepest darkest Connections confessions, as collated from peers and colleagues who begged to remain nameless.
Connections Upgrades and Migrations the Easy WayLetsConnect
Migrating or upgrading an IBM Connections instance can be daunting, but it doesn't have to be. Sharon has had 6 years of successful upgrades and migrations and can assist in the mind-field of information required (and also lessons learnt from some not so successful ones). From what you need to download and configure to which data and assets you must move. We will cover the pros and cons of side-by-side and in-place migrations and what to do if something should go wrong. From an iSeries Connections upgrade through to a side-by-side Oracle DB migration we should have every scenario and information to take the stress out of YOUR Connections upgrade.
OpenNTF has long been a central hub for community and open-source development in the Notes/Domino world. In the past year, however, it has also expanded its capabilities with new tooling and a broadening scope to the larger IBM portfolio. This presentation will discuss OpenNTF’s history and its plans for the future, including a look at its newly-launched suite of source control, issue tracking, and continuous-delivery tools.

Win, Win, Win: Changing Attitudes, Adopting Social and Going Green – A Custom...LetsConnect
Adopting Social remains a challenge for many organizations, but how do you change the attitudes of some people, including senior executives who have their minds made up in advance? Many agree the best way is to focus on business solutions rather than lists of features. This session presents what happened when “the old way of doing things” met some new thinking at A&W Food Services of Canada, who faced the challenge of how to increase the use of IBM Connections. Take a corporate strategy process, add Connections and some iPads, focus on the business solution, save some paper and open some eyes to the possibilities. Those senior executives are now happy Connections users. We will explain the need and the solution and give you the steps to do the same thing in your organization.
Verisure Securitas Direct: On our fourth year in the Cloud! What has it been ...LetsConnect
Join this session to hear about how we joined the Connections Cloud (at the time and by many still known as SmartCloud) in January 2013 and how this has been an interesting journey since then, that is for sure!
“We” are Verisure Securitas Direct, providing home alarms and connected services for the smart home and with about 2 million customers in 14 countries, we are number one in Europe and growing strongly in South America.
In this session I will cover topics like:
– What were our key drivers for going to Connections Cloud?
– What are we using Connections Cloud for?
– Where have we seen the best growth and most positive feedback?
– What has our cooperation with IBM been like?
– What are our deepest concerns and prioritized requests?
– And what is the future look like?
10 insights to foster enterprise social networking, that you already knowLetsConnect
We often tackle the well-known problem of social software adoption with complicated solutions, like revising or creating new adoption strategies. But in essence there are very simple initiatives, that you can take up, which will go a long way in improving adoption.
In this session we discuss insights on 10 such initiatives, that can foster adoption of social software. Things that you may already know, but you may not have implemented. The intent of this session is, to allow each participant, to take away, at least one actionable insight, that will help improve their organizations social software adoption. These insights are based on my personal experiences and key observations during several customer engagements.
Collaboration and social applications generate a lot of information: over 80% of business data may be in email, activity streams, files, and other unstructured content that is growing inexorably. Thankfully, cognitive computing and natural language processing have the potential to help and bring unexpected insights from all that content. Come to this session to find out how collaboration tools can become even more efficient through auto-prioritization and identification of actions, the suggestion of relevant content, and a system that can actually learn from your actions to guide you forward in your day.
Tiny habits @ Social Connections 10
The biggest challenge of a software implementation is in user adoption, because it is about changing behavior: moving from ‘the way we work now’ to ‘the way we work new’, until that becomes so automatic and internalized that it again will be ‘the way we work now’.
Particularly with a social collaboration and communication platform employees can be dazzled with all the possibilities and the huge change it requires of them. For such a transformation you need more than training ‘how’ to use a tool, or even ‘why’ to use it. Tooling is the technology-push that makes new ways of working possible, but it does not make me change my work habits.
To effectively change or start behavior requires practice and we need to take small steps that are easy to do. Let’s take B.J. Fogg’s Behavior model and use it for a practical Tiny Habits program to change behavior. Let’s explore how to do a Tiny Habits program to ease employees into using a new platform.

Home improvement retail giant Lowe’s has launched its first media agency review in more than a decade. Creative is not part of the review, and sources indicate that incumbent OMD may not defend. A Lowe’s spokesperson told Adweek:
“As part of the normal course of business, we regularly review the agencies and vendors that support our company to evaluate our objectives against performance and ensure we remain strategically aligned. As the consumer and media landscape continues to rapidly evolve, we are exploring the most compelling and efficient ways to reach consumers to help ensure we remain well positioned.”
Both OMD and BBDO declined to comment, though Lowe’s confirmed that the creative portion of its business was not affected. Sources tell us that OMD will not defend the account but that another Omnicom entity will most likely participate in the review, which remains in the RFI stage at this time. International consultancy R3 is managing the process.

Company Background
Headquartered in Chesapeake, VA, Dollar Tree operates thousands of stores in North America across 48 contiguous states and five Canadian provinces, supported by a solid and scalable logistics network.
Our roots go back more than 60 years. To appreciate how it all came to pass, you have to rewind more than half a century to K.R. Perry and a Ben Franklin variety store in Wands Corner, Norfolk, Virginia, and to Macon Brock's, Doug Perry's (son of K.R. Perry), and Ray Compton's adventure into $1.00 retailing. A highly successful concept was created using this single price point to build a national chain of stores.
History
1970 Macon Brock, Doug Perry, and K.R. Perry started K&K Toys in Norfolk, Virginia. This mall concept toy store grew to over 130 stores on the East coast. The K&K 5&10 store continued to exist and served as the foundation for what would become Dollar Tree.
1986 Macon Brock, Doug Perry, and Ray Compton started Only $1.00 with 5 stores, one in Georgia, one in Tennessee, and three in Virginia. The expansion of dollar stores was continued alongside K&K Toys stores, mostly in enclosed malls.
1991 K&K Toys was sold to KB Toys, a Melville Corp., and all assets were applied to the expansion of the dollar stores.
1993 The name of the company (Only $1.00) was changed to Dollar Tree Stores to address what could be a multi-price-point strategy in the future. Part equity interest was sold to SKM partners, a private equity firm.
1997 Dollar Tree broke ground on its first Distribution Center and its new Store Support Center, both located in Chesapeake, Virginia.
History Con’t
2000 Dollar Tree acquired Dollar Express, a Philadelphia-based company, and also opened a new Distribution Center in Stockton, California.
2006 Dollar Tree celebrated its 20th year of retailing at a $1.00 price point and opened its 3,000th store. The Company also acquired 138 Deal$ stores from SUPERVALU INC.
2008 2008 was another milestone year for Dollar Tree as the Company earned a place in the Fortune 500, the only company to do that “A Dollar at a Time.” The Company also had the number-one performing stock in the entire Fortune 500 for that year.
2010 Dollar Tree opened its 4,000th store and acquired 86 Canadian Dollar Giant Stores based in Vancouver, British Columbia. The stores are operated in British Columbia, Ontario, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. These are the first retail locations outside of the United States operated by Dollar Tree
2014 Dollar Tree celebrated the opening of its 5000th store
2015 On July 6, the Company acquired Family Dollar located in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:
Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
