1) Puppet on Windows requires a Linux master server even though the Puppet agent can run on Windows.
2) There is no native package manager for Windows, though Chocolatey is an option but immature for enterprise use. Companies need to create their own Chocolatey packages and repositories.
3) Puppet on Windows must deal with Windows path separators using backslashes and the potential for spaces in file names.
How to Develop Puppet Modules: From Source to the Forge With Zero ClicksPuppet
Puppet Modules are a great way to reuse code, share your development with other people and take advantage of the hundreds of modules already available in the community. But how to create, test and publish them as easily as possible? now that infrastructure is defined as code, we need to use development best practices to build, test, deploy and use Puppet modules themselves. Three steps for a fully automated process * Continuous Integration of Puppet Modules * Automatic release and upload to the Puppet Forge * Deploy to Puppet master

Learn how to use AWS services to automate manual tasks, help teams manage complex environments at scale, and keep engineers in control of the high velocity that is enabled by DevOps. In this session, we will provide an overview of the various AWS development and deployment services and when best to use them. We will show how to build a fully automated infrastructure and software delivery pipeline with AWS CodePipeline, AWS CodeBuild, AWS CloudFormation and AWS CodeDeploy. At the end of the session, a GitHub repository of AWS CloudFormation templates will be provided so you can quickly deploy the same pipeline to your AWS account(s).
In the past 5 years Continuous Delivery has gained much attention. Its benefits of rapid, iterative change are well understood, all the way up to board level. However, CD often encounters an adversary; Security. Protection of data and computer systems seems to stand on concepts like infrequent change, segregation of duties and bureaucratic heavyweight process. But are CD and Security really at odds?
We don’t think so. Whilst we’ll show you the dangers of unfettered CD pipelines and the risk of letting security spread fear. We will also share ways in which we’ve managed to balance speed and security in our pipelines–considering both the technical and organisational aspects. In fact we hope you’ll see that not only is there a way, but it’s a far better way.
Goal:
Minimize technical debt, code changes, and rewrites. Show stakeholders and customers the developing or fully-implemented UI as early as possible.
How:
Fake the backend. Then when the UI code is completely done, make the backend real.

Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) is a web service that provides resizable compute capacity in the cloud. It is designed to make web-scale computing easier for developers.
Amazon EC2’s simple web service interface allows you to obtain and configure capacity with minimal friction. It provides you with complete control of your computing resources and lets you run on Amazon’s proven computing environment. Amazon EC2 reduces the time required to obtain and boot new server instances to minutes, allowing you to quickly scale capacity, both up and down, as your computing requirements change. Amazon EC2 changes the economics of computing by allowing you to pay only for capacity that you actually use. Amazon EC2 provides developers the tools to build failure resilient applications and isolate themselves from common failure scenarios.

At one point in time, I was the technical lead on two different projects. One was an application we were purchasing from a vendor that was being written in Java (and had previously been written in .NET by another vendor, who then switched to Java, and then abandoned the project), and one was being built in-house with PHP on the IBM i. They were the same product for two different product lines that we offered, but time constraints forced us to build two products in tandem. In the end, the PHP application was completed and delivered to end-users in about 7 months from start to finish, while the former project languished. We'll compare the two projects in the tools and technologies that were used to integrated with the IBM i backend as well as programming.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:

12. Package manager alternatives
There’s Chocolatey, which is immature;
the usual “Programs and Features” control
panel, which doesn’t handle versions well;
storing each file individually, which doesn’t
scale;
or direct use of archives, which is ugly.
12
14. Windows Package Manager
Chocolatey is the way to go as far as
package management for Puppet on
Windows, but how does it work for
enterprise?
Not so well, it turns out. Packages vary in
quality and most go off to other provider’s
Web sites for installers.
So, take control:
– Write your own Chocolatey packages
– Manage Chocolatey packages and
providers’ installers locally
14
15. Chocolatey configuration
- It’s actually quite simple to write your own
Chocolatey puppet module. We change the
following configuration
- Disable ‘chocolatey’ source
- Add a new source to your internal Chocolatey
repository
- Set
autoUninstaller = true
allowGlobalConfirmation = true
failOnAutoUninstaller = true
- Add an API key to be able to push new
packages to your internal Chocolatey
repository
15
16. Creating a Chocolatey package
is easier than might you think
- choco new
Then edit as needed. Finally
- cpack
- choco push
16
25. Windows and ACLs
Puppet supports Windows access control
lists natively, but the defaults are Linux style,
not Windows.
So you won’t get what you expect.
Typically, Administrator won’t have access.
We use native Windows utilities to apply
permissions and wrap this up in PowerShell
modules.
27. Our results
We have 120+ test servers, 22+
environments, and in total about 20 modules
in use.
We have 100% automation of deployments
from bare operating system to production
deployments.
We have no access to production servers.
This has saved several thousand pounds
over alternative approaches and means we
can deploy much more frequently.
27
29. We found this the hard way
The Puppet documentation is just the start.
Network with colleagues across your
organisation and in other companies too.
Invest in a training / scratch environment.
Keep abreast of new Puppet modules.
Buy Puppet Enterprise support. It’s good!
29
