This document provides instructions for calibrating thermometers in the food industry. It states that thermometers should be calibrated for manufacturer recommendations, for legal reasons if involved in court proceedings, as a food safety practice, and to ensure due diligence. It demonstrates how to calibrate a probe thermometer using ice water and boiling water, and the steps to record the calibration for compliance. The document also identifies different types of thermometers and what to do if a thermometer is not working correctly, such as checking batteries, wires, and displays, or sending for manufacturer calibration.
This document discusses how to properly calibrate an infrared thermometer. It describes the necessary calibration equipment including a thermal radiation source, transfer standard, and mounting device. Two traceability schemes - contact and radiometric - are covered. The calibration procedure is outlined as preparation, setting calibration points, and measuring accurately. Sources of uncertainty like emissivity and distance are evaluated in an uncertainty analysis. Results should be reported with calibration data, uncertainties, and traceability statement. Following best practices can improve infrared thermometer calibration accuracy.

It also suggests that congregated care, which increases health risks, may face disinvestment after COVID-19 highlights these dangers. Finally, it outlines a community-based approach to pandemic response that emphasizes local volunteer networks, neighborhoods supporting one another, and citizens as the first line of defense against the virus's spread.

4. Who are CERT (UK)?
CERT (UK) is the new name for Eden Flood Volunteers
A community response group set up in response to Storm Desmond in December
2015
We liaise with a wide variety of individuals, families, businesses, organisations,
agencies, local government, emergency services & other aid charities
We collect and distribute goods donated for the flood affected throughout Cumbria
and the surrounding counties
Cumbria Community Foundation - Flood Fund, currently supports our work by
awarding us a grant for £100,000 for 1 year
Cumbria County Council support us by providing the premises which we are in until
July 2017 – Rent Free which is suitable for our needs, centrally placed in the county
(Penrith) and just of the M6 at J40
We collect and deliver goods to homes with a lease hire van provided by Northgate
And finally the most important part of our organisation
Volunteers continue to be the backbone of everything which we do
and achieve
5. Response
CERT (UK) already has and is
continuing to collaborate & engage
with a wide range of groups,
organisations, companies and
individuals who have a role to play in
any disaster situation
This would be:
Imminent flood threat supplies
Emergency supplies distribution
Volunteer support co-ordination
Signpost & emergency hot

Replacement homeware
Secure communications with the
relevant authorities

While the emergency services continue to
do a fantastic job, the impact a disaster
has on them can be monumental
Our aim is to increase our
communications, to assist the emergency
services & the community in disaster
situations as we did during Storm
Desmond
This would be particularly effective in more
isolated villages and farms, where the
community links are stronger
Also, we would be the link organisation
within Cumbria which volunteer
organisations and individuals flock to, so
that we have a co-ordinated response
within the 3rd Sector and those wishing to
support during times of disaster in a safe
and controlled environment

The City & District councils role at the time of any
disaster is to respond to such emergencies with
opening, managing and supplying emergency
hubs/centres for residents to shelter and stay safe.
During Storm Desmond there were grave failures,
centres were flooded, no plan B and no real co-
ordination,
So we at CERT (UK) with our experience on the
ground and having our emergency hub up and
running within 24 hours of Storm Desmond hitting
the County want to change this by:
Linking in with the centres would ensure that
the emergency supplies would be delivered by
need as many do not have the facilities to store
donations
We would provide emergency packs, to include
drinks, food, toiletries, bodycare & baby
supplies individually tailored
We continue to work with parish and district
councils to formulate Emergency plans which
link to our work and our services

We have already established and built
links with many charitable organisations,
which has been crucial in immediate
circumstances with communications to
help, support, lifting spirits & hope
This has also been instrumental in
breaking down cultural, religious & social
barriers
The network of support continues to be
built on and we are confident in the event
of further floods we are only a phone call
away from potentially hundreds of
volunteers co-ordinated within the
structures & procedures which we have
put in place to manage this
We also have registered volunteers and
supplies to assist families in clearing the
flood residue

plans to raise awareness & link in with

During an emergency situation finding
appropriate accommodation to move
families who have specific
needs/vulnerabilities i.e. disabilities
and/or additional needs, is vital to
ascertain prior to an event to reduce
the chance of families being split up
when the event occurs

CERT (UK) has a warehouse centrally

We have strong links with community
champions from all major supermarkets
this enables us to work with them during
and long after the initial disaster for
ongoing needs and requirements
Personal 1:1 contact with local

homes is devastating, they simply do not
have the finances to replace all which the
disaster “took”
We mustn’t however forget those insured,
as they have the uphill battle/struggle with
insurance companies, even though
adequately insured
Those affected not only need goods but
also require decoration supplies. i.e.

we aim to set up a therapy project
which will help them to recover from the
