4. To impact poverty, we focus the efforts of many to help
our neighbors stand strong – by addressing basic needs,
and fostering success in the classroom and the workplace.
Every day in the Omaha-Council Bluffs area, there’s someone
living in poverty – ready to take a big step:
• A family that seeks safe housing and nutritious food.
• A student who wants to improve her grades and
graduate on time.
• A young adult who wants to leave his troubled past
behind and get a job.

Mission Statement
5. What makes United Way unique?
It’s right there in our name: United Way – bringing together caring donors,
community partners and engaged volunteers who want to make a difference.
With the help of committed local funding volunteers and subject matter
experts, we carefully review human service programs and then invest donor
dollars in services that demonstrate measurable results – the kind that lead
people toward a safer and more stable life.
We work side-by-side with a variety of strong nonprofit groups, government
and civic organizations on important community issues – the situations that
keep our vulnerable neighbors from escaping poverty.
United Way partners with Community Health Charities of Nebraska to address
medical challenges that limit or endanger the lives of our neighbors.
And through the 2-1-1 call center, we connect residents of Nebraska and
Southwest Iowa with much-needed health and human service referrals.
Through these and other great
partnerships, United Way is about
people and organizations, working
together for a strong community.
