18. TAKE HOME MESSAGES
The IT Services strategy for next 50 years should be
refocused and redirected to rapidly ramping up the
harvesting of benefits from the higher reaches of the
global value chain. Re-examine the perpetual narrative
on “low hanging fruits”
The dimension with the greatest potential for improving
National Readiness for global IT Services is the Talent
Factor
To drive participation in high value-added IT and ITES
Services in the next 50 years, an urgent policy
imperative must be major expansions in the creation of
suitable Talent (quality and quantity)
- Calculations are also carried out separately for each of the fourstandard IT/ITES business lines: data processing, voice processing, knowledge services, and IT services. The IT services segment includesboth IT services and research and development (R&D) services, while the other three business lines are in fact IT-enabled services. Each business line has its own requirements for employees. Data Processing requests basic skills for data entry. - Voice processing requires staff to have the necessary level of English language to be able to interact with customers at call centers. Knowledge services require knowledge processing skills to perform such tasks as business and financial research, animation, data analytics, legal process and patent research. The IT services segment includesIT services while the other three business lines are in fact IT-enabled services
- A Location Readiness Index (LRI) was developed as a modeling toolby McKinsey & Company for the World Bank and infoDev to helpcountries identify their areas of relative strengths and weaknesses interms of IT and ITES, and thus direct their efforts to interventionsthat will have the greatest impact on their likelihood of success. TheLRI is a diagnostic tool that measures a country’s strengths andweaknesses in six important categories: talent pool size and quality;cost; quality of infrastructure; environment; risk profile; and marketmaturity.
