Lonnie Newell has over 40 years of experience in maintenance, welding, and outage management for power plants. He has held various roles with increasing responsibility at American Electric Power (AEP) plants in West Virginia, Ohio, Virginia, and Kentucky. Currently, he is an RSO Zone Supervisor responsible for outage management and project coordination at the Amos, Mountaineer, and Gavin plants.

complete overhaul of air preheater,other piping jobs. Coal Yard outages consisting
of barge unloader, bucket and chain replacements and chute work, installation of new
hammers and wear liner in coal yard crusher / Precipitator work consisting of changing
wires and dust collector bags / Working at all AEP plants in Eastern USA
May 2004 – Jan 2005 AEP Regional Support Supervisor / RSO
Daily supervision of 12 or more men during RSO outages and homebase teams. Areas of
expertise include boiler and associated equipment as well as fans, valves, pumps and coal
yard equipment. Other duties include daily management of crew assignments involving
clearance permits, burning permits, material expediting, and supplying tooling and
equipment requirements for each project, and manpower allotments for assignments to
include overtime and vacation scheduling. Also included responsibilities were
weekly/monthly safety meeting presentations, employee information meetings, and
personnel management including absenteeism and safety and well being of assigned
employees. Also responsible for managing the Sporn Unit 3 outage and Boiler
Coordinator at Northeast 3 and 4 in Oklahoma.
2. Jan 2005 – Oct 2008 AEP RSO Lead Supervisor / Senior Coordinator
Duties include overall project management responsibility, project coordination during
unit outages at fossil plants in the southern RSO and supervision/coordination of
Mountaineer homebased employees. Projects coordination areas include balance of plant
(pumps, valves, condensers, conveyors, etc.), boiler tubing, burner pipe replacements,
pulverizers, and precipitators. Other duties include project status information, manpower
adjustments, schedule changes and establishing and maintaining a safe work environment
among employees and contractors. Outage Manager of Mountaineer Outage spring of
2008. Boiler Coordinator for Big Sandy sidewall removal in April 08.
Oct 2008 – Present RSO Zone Supervisor / Amos / Mountaineer / Gavin
Outage management of RSO projects in a safe, efficient and economical manner to
achieve short and long range goals and to obtain maximum customer satisfaction and
profitable performance. Reporting on project progress, scheduled deliverables and
budget. Direct the RSO planning group to develop and produce scope documents,
schedules, deliverables and estimate man-hours. Act on the behalf of the RSO manager
during times the RSO manager is unavailable. Plan, organize, direct, and coordinate
assigned project and outage work activities. Hold RSO employees accountable for the
AEP System Safety Process, ensuring a safe working environment focused on Target
Zero. Develop, review and coordinate the project/outage plan, schedule, budget, tools,
and staff. Lead project and outage updates. Work close to Plant staff, plant coord,
contractors, vendors, suppliers. Ensure efficient and timely completion of RSO outage
work activities. Outage Manager over the Gas Conversion on the Big Sandy Coal Fired
Plant for RSO.
