1) Electronic voting systems have at least six general points of failure where votes can be lost or changed, including software errors, hardware errors, deliberate voter fraud, and malicious tampering. 2) Numerous examples are given of problems that occurred with electronic voting in US elections between 2002-2004, including uncertified software being used, voting machines malfunctioning and losing votes, and ballots being displayed or tabulated incorrectly. 3) The many issues experienced with electronic voting in past elections would understandably raise concerns about the reliability and security of e-voting systems if they were used in a major election like the next US Presidential vote.
