Priorities :
1. Making lifelong learning and mobility a reality
2. Improving the quality and efficiency of education and training
3. Promoting equity, social cohesion and active citizenship through
adult learning
4. Enhancing the creativity and innovation of adult and their learning
environments
5. Improving the knowledge base on adult learning and monitoring
the adult learning sector
NIACE’s EAAL National UK Coordinator Role:
• Linking adult learning to wider social and economic policy in
the UK;
• Raising awareness of the value of adult learning to UK
citizens; and
• Increasing participation of low skilled or less well qualified
adults.
Programme of Work:
• Measuring the economic and social impact of adult learning
• Impact Forums in each of the UK nations
• Linking the OECD Adult Skills Survey with surveys in the UK
• Developing a Citizens’ Curriculum
• Enhancing digital skills
• Employability skills for young adults

  • #3 The European Commissions renewed European Agenda for Adult Learning defines the focus for European cooperation in adult education policies for 2012 – 2020 and builds on the first 3 strategies, but should also be taken in the context of the European 2020 strategy.
  • #4 There are 5 defined priorities for the agenda which are focussed around Improving, Promoting and Enhancing. Within the framework of the Agenda, the commission coordinates a network of national coordinators, to promote adult learning in EU countries.
  • #5  The National Institute of Adult Continuing Education is the UK’s National Coordinator. And are delivering a range of programmes that With a range of partners across the 4 UK countries which include:
  • #6  This programme of work covers all 4 UK countries to different degrees. In Wales we are currently focussed on the Impact forums, which is currently bringing together key learning providers, policy makers and influencers from the adult education sector in Wales. We have delivered one forum in April around Digital Learning, and a further 2 to deliver, one in June based around Employability Skills for young adults and Supporting progression for excluded groups the other around Basic Skills and the UK response to PIAAC (Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competences) which is an international survey of Adult Skills With a regional focus these forums give us the opportunity: to increase communication with other regions Disseminate research and findings from the work packages Contextualise these findings for Wales Support collaboration, share transferable and good practice (OECD) The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development
