Talk given by Robert Maxwell, Lead Incident Handler and Kelly McCracken, Director, CSIRT at Salesforce, at Techno Security, in June 2016
Effective IR Communication & Coordination using a Case Management System Description: Too often IR teams are left to managing incidents from email, personal folders, and shared drive. Salesforce's CSIRT will demonstrate how they have developed an effective case management system to increase the team's ability to effectively track, respond, manage, measure, and report on incidents from detection through the lessons learned phase of the incident response lifecycle.
Five concepts to help companies get a handle on cloud security. Create a base upon which you can recover from security incidents faster and bake security into every application from the start. Create reporting that helps appropriately prioritize, assign, and attribute security problems to the person who can and should fix them.

8 BIGGEST MISTAKES IT PRACTITIONERS MAKE AND HOW TO AVOID THEMAbuSyeedRaihan
Imagine you’re the mythological character Sisyphus, forced to roll a boulder up a hill. When it gets near the top, it always rolls back down, so you have to keep repeating the same futile exercise over and over. If you’re an IT professional in charge of a complex, hybrid environment, this scenario probably sounds familiar. Instead of helping move your organization forward, you spend most of your time constantly trying to pinpoint and fix one problem after another (eternally rolling boulders uphill).
Adding to the stress, all the pressure is on you to maintain
system availability and performance to keep business leaders and customers happy.
Monitoring As Code: How to Integrate App Monitoring Into Your Developer CycleAtlassian
Over the past decade, DevOps has empowered teams to break silos and create an environment of shared responsibility for delivering scalable applications.
At this breakout session, Remie Bolte, Marketplace Vendor and Cloud Solutions Architect, will explore how to break down one of the last silos still standing: application monitoring. You will learn about the history of monitoring and how it has evolved from basic systems monitoring to application performance monitoring. It will outline the common pitfalls of the most popular monitoring solutions and how these are antithetical to the DevOps movement.
To solve this, we'll introduce you to a new monitoring concept focused on developers: Monitoring as Code.
This presentation was delivered at the StatsCraft Conference in Tel Aviv http://www.statscraft.org.il/ by BigPanda's Director of Engineering, Shahar Kendar. The StatsCraft Conference is all about making monitoring easier, more accessible and more productive.

You are already the Duke of DevOps: you have a master in CI/CD, some feature teams including ops skills, your TTM rocks ! But you have some difficulties to scale it. You have some quality issues, Qos at risk. You are quick to adopt practices that: increase flexibility of development and velocity of deployment. An urgent question follows on the heels of these benefits: how much confidence we can have in the complex systems that we put into production? Let’s talk about the next hype of DevOps: SRE, error budget, continuous quality, observability, Chaos Engineering.

What can you expect when using Kong ? Kong can help you in various use cases like API gateway for authentication or broader API management uses cases. In this specific scenario Kong is part of the Kong Ingress Controller for Kubernetes, which in essence provides HTTP(S) or HTTP/2 intelligent traffic routing, that operates at layer 7 and additionally can provide load balancing capabilities to your kubernetes cluster. To automatically obtain certificates we setup cert-manager, which provides access to ACME providers like Venafi cloud or Let's Encrypt.
The increasing importance of our tooling, the rely on their ability to automate and potential damage when they don’t work properly should make us think about repositioning your tooling strategy. Nowadays tools are an essential part and getting more important every day for delivering high quality productivity, but why are we still handle them as non critical parts?
We can all agree that it’s seems such simple thing selecting your favourite tools, but that it’s actually a complex undertaking, by avoiding pitfalls and select your Swiss knife. Most companies are still struggling to find their best fitted tools for their organisation, processes and technology stack, caused by various legitimate reasons, but end up with no beneficial use or even not used at all. Think that we all recognize this situation?
During this presentation I will take you on the journey of defining and refining your end goal, effectively learn from the things that matter and define your Enterprise Tooling strategy. We will explore some typical pitfalls and practices that help you to identify their strengths and opportunities for your organisation to leverage from. After all we want to get productive as early as possible.
Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
