LHCII is the light-harvesting complex II which involves in the initial steps of photosynthesis by harvesting sunlight and transferring excitation energy to the core complex. LHCII are localized in the grana of chloroplast. Phycobiliproteins are the major light-harvesting pigments of cryptophytes, cyanobacteria and red algae. In cyanobacteria, they are organized in to hemispherical structures called phycobilisomes. Phycobilisomes are localized on the outside of the thylakoid membrane.
