The document summarizes discussions at the 2009 Adobe Education Leader Institute in San Jose, California about digitizing course materials. It describes two systems - CourseMedia and ALORA - that help instructors organize and present digital media in courses. It provides an overview of how the systems work, the technologies used to build them, and how they have evolved over time to incorporate more media types and partner with more departments across the university. Copyright issues around using digital course materials are also briefly addressed.

We haven't tied the whole world to Moodle (except through the Map activity that we've added to bring in Google Maps functionality), but the ability of Moodle to be a central platform that we can integrate other functions into is an important part of our development efforts. This talk will present our experiences and lessons learned in integrating a variety of applications into our Moodle system, including: library support for classes; senior project submissions; streaming media services (Kaltura); e-portfolios (Mahara); and live classroom environments (Big Blue Button).

Faculty, Visuals, and Values: Shaping a Learning Technology EcosystemMichael Greene
Given at EDUCUASE ELI16
In 2012, Duke University's Center for Instructional Technology (CIT) began experimenting with MOOCs with an interest in both open education and campus impact. Today, faculty are increasingly interested in content mashups and technology integrations that go far beyond the average course site. Presenters share how CIT evaluates technology tools and platforms to meet faculty needs, maps the Duke learning technology ecosystem, and tests new technologies for fit. In this presentation I discuss the methods and applications used, the results of Canvas and Open edX testing (summer 2015) and an Open edX pilot (spring 2016), and the values shaping the ecosystem moving forward.
OUTCOMES:
-Compare learning ecosystems, needs, and aspirations among session participants
-Identify strategies for visualizing a learning ecosystem
-Assess methods and applications for evaluating technology platforms
This is an introduction to the reusable technology solutions developed by the rapid innovation projects of the UK OER Programme during 2012. Bidders were asked to address problems identified through the Programme, and 15 UK university-based projects were awarded between £13,000 and £25,000 each over 6 months. They have developed a range of solutions to enhance the digital infrastructure to support open content in an educational context. Projects worked in an open innovation way, blogging as they went, working with peers and users, and the outputs are all open source, documented and reusable. Links are provided to each project output.

Producing Quality Video Content for Online LearningJoseph Labrecque
Having authored and produced online training videos for years for publishers like Lynda.com, Pluralsight, and Adobe… there are some definite workflow tips to creating effective video content that students will watch - and will look and sound technically robust. This session will cover preparation, recording, editing, and distribution
Animate CC allows an abundance of options when creating both animated and interactive content to enhance learning. Animated infographics... interactive experiments and games - all is possible with Animate. In this session, you'll get a solid introduction to how to create your own engaging content using this fabulously creative application.
Interactivity and cinematography aren't usually a set of terms that are used together... but with Adobe Animate CC (formerly Flash Professional) anything is possible! In this workshop, we'll set up a project using existing assets and then add camera movement, effects, and interactivity in oder to provide additional meaning and direction. Take the skills from this workshop to expand upon and refine your own animated projects or even create whole new collections of interactive infographics, exploratory timelines, and more for use in your classroom or other learning activities.
At Adobe MAX 2016 in San Diego in early November, there was a lot of excitement around Adobe Animate CC with the release of a number of new creative and workflow features to the 2017 release of the application, new statistics on the Flash Runtimes, and a new set of beta releases. Not only that, but MAX held a number of live streams focused on Animate CC, full sessions, sold out labs, and more. With all all of the activity around Animate CC, we'll spend some time going over all of this in a special post-MAX session!

Surviving Industry Disruption in Higher EducationJoseph Labrecque
Adobe Education Community
NORTH AMERICA LEADERSHIP SUMMIT 2016
This talk will explore how industry upheaval can affect institutional teaching and learning systems which make use of technology for media delivery and student interaction. With the tsunami of change introduced by mobile devices, adaptations in streaming technology, preferred file formats, and delivery platforms – there is a lot at stake when considering how systems must adapt to these changes to remain useful and beneficial. How is it possible to not only survive such monumental disruption – but even excel at adapting to the new order… while carefully weaving previous workflows, technologies, and standards into a changed world?

Adobe Flash Professional CC remains the standard for creating animated content across the web and even for television and film.
So much so that Adobe has begun ramping up on features and enhancements to support a greater range of creative possibilities within the application.
Though... what about creating content for mobile devices? Many people don’t know just how much content created with Flash Professional can be viewed within mobile browsers (even on iOS) and that Flash Professional even allows the creation of native mobile applications. This session will provide an overview of all the options available.

Art History instructors need their slides
We need to digitize!
Image repository?
Audio and Video materials?
Can we have a shared resource?
What about Copyright?
Who can do the work?
3. What applications are we talking about?

9. On such a large-scale project, cooperation and strategy is critical.
The library course reserves desk receives a request for
materials and checks to see whether or not the
university owns a purchased copy of the media. If they
do not own a copy, they will attempt to acquire a
copy.
The digital transfer is then done to our specifications by
Digital Production Services.
Librarians transfer the metadata from various sources
into ALORA and catalog the digital object.
The object is then available for instructional use.
10.
11. Generally, one can use copyright materials dependant upon
the following conditions:
1. You must be a faculty member
2. The class must be part of the for-credit university catalog
3. The material must be related to the course
4. Access must be password protected
5. There must be a stated copyright notice
6. You must use excerpts whenever possible
