Editor's Notes

  1. Here’s some background information about me. I love what I do! I’ve had lots of different jobs in financial services, high-tech, retail, higher education, and lots of education, and I’m excited to share my experiences with you tonight, to help make this year the year of YOUR dream career. It took me several years to figure out what I wanted to do. I went to business school b/c my dad was a banker and he thought I should. So I did, and studied French and psychology, too. I had lots of corporate jobs before I landed in higher ed – loved being back on campus. Lured back to high tech during the boom, which fell. I took some time to re-assess what I really wanted and moved into counseling almost 10 years ago, first at some local universities, and now run my own business, working mostly with young professionals to help them find their dream jobs.
  2. WHY LI?150M+ members worldwideUsed increasingly for job search/career changers, by recruiters, employers and job seekers!Create account (poll – who has an account?)
  3. Connections – 4.74 average number of people linking any 2 strangers, according to scientists from Facebook and University of Milan who studied 721 million FB users vs. theory of psychologist Stanley Milgram who in 1967 asked a group of volunteers to send a document to a random MA resident via people they thought might know him. Found that it required 6 jumps for the document to reach the intended recipient. Population increasing, but the world is getting smaller!
  4. 75%+ of jobs are never advertised – allows you to find the hidden job market.
  5. This is a slide from my last webinar on How to be a GREAT Networker. It’s posted on my website if you’re interested in seeing it.
